Sett's Champ Insights came out today, and we learned that Sett's early designs included a concept called the Darkin Behemoth, and really it's a shame that we didn't get him (yeah yeah, Sett's more marketable and pretty and the whole nine yards, etc.), because the more I think about it, the more interested I become, namely because of one thing: This Darkin doesn't have a weapon.

Of course, that might've changed as the character was developed further, but a bare-knuckle Darkin would imply he was never caught or imprisoned. A Darkin who evaded capture? There's a story there. Of course, I can't say what kind of personality he would've had, and how he would stand apart from the viciously joyful Rhaast and nihilistic Aatrox (and I'm not counting Varus, since he needs an update bad). Would he want to free his Darkin brethren so they can rule together again? Would he want to hunt down the reemerging Darkin ("whoever wins, we lose") because he sees them as a threat to his own power? There's a story there. It's just a shame we may never get it.

This concept just sounded alot cooler to me than Vastaya gangster because I mainly like Darkin more but the way Sett was designed just is very simple and pretty boring (Though I still like him alot) like even the 3 designs that they made when they settled for a Vastaya we're cooler C being the best IMO for a gangster that also looks bad ass but the Vastaya concept is just boring when its anime animal ears people. Darkin as of now since they've become things that take over a mortal are very human like in silhouette but obviously demon looking. With this guy he looks like how I think a Darkin who hasn't been trapped as he has a tail and a more animal like body shape which I think only a ascended that turned into a Darkin and not trapped in the weapon obviously since he has none.

I really wish Riot went for this idea it would be great for the lore and also just give us a new monster bad ass godzilla looking dude lmao

Wow, I didn't notice that! You're absolutely right, this means he was not sealed like the others and escaped the hunt after Twilight of the Gods. Now I want a backstory like this.[slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

This is really a cool concept. I do want more darkin who are monsters like Rhaast and Aatrox and not pretty boy Varus (just no). He could be Maldraaon the Demolishor or something cool like that.

I actually LOVE the Darkin Behemoth concept so much. I want it to be a champion so bad. Since the update the Darkin has become a really interesting faction to me, with a lot of cool ways they could develop it further. Even if they decided to give Behemie here an actual weapon it would be cool too. He seems like a club or axe guy. Maybe he could even use that tail to swing the weapon around. Please consider using this concept in the future, Riot. It's so damn cool!!

I'd love to see this as a Darkin support style champion.

Ehh, I get people loved this concept, but for the 5th and final active Darkin, I think something like this would overlap too much with Aatrox and even Rhaast. They're both bruisers, and build beefy, so I don't think he'd really present something new and fresh to the Darkin family.

The idea of Darkin being weapons is kind of scrapped since they are Ascended and nothing in the lore says that an Ascended has to have a weapon. Many did, because they were warriors but Xerath wasn't a warrior and didn't have a weapon, he had innate power which was amped up in his Ascension. Surely Ascension (which was a rite for people that served Shirma in life and for those at the end of theirs) was reserved for high ranking generals and warriors only? What of the politicians, businessmen, the religious leaders, the inventors, those that actually built Shurima? They wouldn't have weapons. (Of course they also wouldn't go to war, so are unlikely to be Darkin).

What if one Darkin was a mage? They don't need a weapon to have power, they are the power. Where would you contain the power? The weapons were just used as a vessel to hold their spirit, their power doesn't come from the weapon. These few were unkillable and trapped (unlike the others, who were killed or stripped of their Ascension in Twilight of the Gods) don't even have to have a 'weapon' to be contained, sure for the 3 we know they did. But Riot have put themselves in a good spot with Twilight and Darkin retcon to actually explore a greater scope of potential Darkin's. Ones that aren't bound by the unstoppable unkillable race of other worldly beings tied to their weapons they were before (sadly, prefered that version of them).
