Are the Watchers from the Void?

A long time ago, Riot stated that Velkoz is not a watcher. HOWEVER, they didn't said that the Watchers themselves are not Voidborns or aren't related in some way to the Void.

As you know, the Void has historically been associated with Shurima, with even most Voidborn names being Shuriman in origin. However, Riot stated that there are also Void portals in nations other than Shurima, and Freljord is one of them.

A long time ago, Riot also stated that the Bloodmoon Kalista skin does not mean that Kalista is a Ionian woman that died and then reincarnated on the Shadow Isles. The Bloodmoon Kalista skin is actually the way that the Ionian people see Kalista. In fact, other Bloodmoon themed Shadow Isles specters, such as Thresh and Elise, are actually the Shadow Isles creatures themselves, but in the vision from Ionian people.

The same logic could also be applied to the Void. What if the Watchers are in fact Voidborn creatures, and "watchers" are how the people from Freljord refer to those Voidborns? Peharps they have a completely different name because they also have a completely different view from the Shuriman people about what the Void look like.

A evidence to support this is that the Watcher constellation (from the Bard champion preview The Wonder Above) resembles a Voidborn, peharps from Vel'Koz's species. Another evidence is a drawing on Gnar's champion preview also resembles a Voidborn from Vel'Koz's species, but it isn't confirmed whether it is a Voidborn or a Watcher (or even another different creature) - since Riot stated that Anivia has froze Gnar to prepare him to the Watcher's return, peharps Anivia know something about the Watchers that nobody else knows.

I am not saying that the Watchers are Voidborns, but peharps they can be, and the Freljord people have a name and a view for them that is different from the Shuriman people. This may also mean that Lissandra indirectly serves the Void but in a different way with different goals from Malzahar.

They're probably aren't. Watchers have icy powers, Void champions more like have biologic powers or void energy.

Perhaps one of the things I dislike the most about the Void or the 'ancient unfathomable evil' archetype is the notion it is everywhere.

War between Protectorate and Magelords? Void.

Downfall of Shurima? Void.

Demacia and Noxus going at it? Void.

When one is dealing with the idea of something so vast and grand that it can have machinations over the millenniums, it's hard to get the taste out of your mouth. For certain we have no direct knowledge that is actually what is happening, but the implication alone can cast a shadow that changes the narrative flavor. In a way, it marginalizes every conflict's components because you know it's all been preordained or manipulated to an end already.

In this regard, I'm staunchly sitting in the camp where the Watchers are not part of the Void. More specifically, I envision them to be some force acting against it - watching, as it were - and prepare for war. That they sought the domination of the world certainly fits such a goal. It also helps to contain the idea that the Void is allowed to run rampart throughout time, so we don't lose the integrity of our other narrative pieces.

I like the angle Malzahar is coming from and that of the Void monsters - things leaking through the veil. Once we start talking 'ancient conspiracies since the dawn of time', some very difficult problems are put onto our plates. They're not necessarily ones we want, or should, answer either.

The Watchers have a very Elder Things vibe to them.

And as we all know, the Elder Things fought against Cthulhu and friends.
