I don't know why Mord has to choose his identity

I was originally gonna make this a long post but I don't have the same heart Malicious Metal does. my posts are probably much less attractive, since I have a tendency to insult Riot

I just don't understand why, after Riot blatantly said "we think he makes no sense being a metal mage" there's been a few threads addressing Mord 'mains' (note the condescension here) saying that metal was never a part of his theme. Well, that's not true, but that's beside the point.

Why does Mordekaiser -- or anyone reworking him -- have to choose between being a metal-bending beast shaping his prison's confines to extend his dark will to hurt others, and a rampaging death knight who feeds off of the malady he wreaks, using black magic to steal the souls of his victims? They both tie into his theme; he's iconic for being both.

The VFX update and the new title make me very not-excited for anything Riot has planned for him. Everyone knows how I feel about the rework; but the other things tell me that Riot isn't interested in preserving his identity -- to me, it feels like they want to take the easy way out. "Thematic cohesion" is just another catch phrase for them homogenizing a champion.

I want, more than nothing, to see my favorite champion's theme enhanced. I think the rework was a mistake, but his original kit wasn't much better, objectively speaking; he couldn't be allowed to be strong because there just wasn't enough to his kit. He was too straight forward to be acceptable; the current Mordekaiser is too back-loaded on one ability and a good chunk of his budget is invested into power he can't access consistently. I think a more comprehensive rework should follow; whether or not he should be rebuilt from the ground up is debatable. Personally, I think his skills should offer more interaction and have more to them, in order to enable more fine-tuning by Riot, but most of them are in a good start. But just as a start.

I would like them to rethink this decision when he's finally due his full update; both themes are equally fitting for him, and both should be emphasized into one fully-fledged super-badass who comes back to the Rift to wreak havoc.

Take a note from Morde's own, original lore.

"Pain's Paladin".

(others have thrown this around, but having the title be in his fucking lore just makes it all the more suiting for him).

I'm surprised so many people want him to only be metal-based.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the titles to describe which theme to use.

I seen this name on the boards before and I thought it be a cool thing for his title if they are gonna change it "The Iron Reverent"

if metal mage doesn't make sense... why riven broke her sword just to repair it every 30 seconds?

Mord isn't a real person. "He" can't make up his mind about anything.

I also suggest learning the new champion instead of wasting time asking Riot to revert the champ. Whether it's LoL or an MMO, the whining usually doesn't accomplish anything. If it's not Mord today, it would be <insert random champ here>.

I bet Riot's just trying to remove all his metal band references because the copyright trolls caught up with them. :3

My vision of Morde has always been that his core was the manipulation of Death and Suffering. He is the Paladin of Pain which is a really peculiar being. His Armor is not just a physical form of a phantasmic entity (like Thresh and Heca) but an Artifact with powers on its own used to contain what Mordekaiser is (until we get new long lore, this stays).

So, what better way to instill sufference to living things than shredding them with metal debrids harnessing the power of its very own cage? The control over the deceased it's just another way to fuel his power into the spiritual/spectral realm.

Metal --> Torturing of the physical world

Death --> TOrturing of the soul

looking back on how, in a time before I started, Mordes old kit could go in 1v5, turn the fight into a 2v4 and get a penta. Then when I did start playing they already had him nerfed so he wasn't used anymore and nerfed him again when people started building him with health regen (after they updated his recommended items), I agree his old kit forced him to have to be weak so he wouldn't be to OP. Sadly riot made it so he's OP bot while being crap anywhere else. All they managed to do is rearrange the problem. Instead of being OP based on stat/ kit's numbers, he's now OP based on where his laning phase is. Worst part is that it's still a problem that can be fixed by messing with his kit, but riot thinks they fixed that issue so they keep refusing to do anything about it.

If "metal mage" stayed while making no sense for the character it would just continue being a gimmick. I think they do have to choose what route to go with him.
