What if the coming Gangplank rework...

... turned him more into a Davy Jones like character? (minus weird tentacles. That guy was once human too after all...) A man connected to the oceans in a somewhat supernatural way...

Now, before you start calling me crazy, let me explain this. We all know that our favourite pirate is getting a reboot and/or massive overhaul, so his theme shifting a little is something to be expected. Hell, I would LOVE to see him actually having a serious theme apart from the walking "yarr I'ma piRRRRRate!"- joke that he is now. I'm not saying "hey let's make him a spirit with magic powers". Nah, sailors and pirates are highly superstitious by nature, they wouldn't even get close to anything that even seems to be magical. In that case it would have to be a little more... subtle I guess.

How I get this idea? Let's take a quick look at Bilgewater. While the place is actually an anarchic union of independant islands there are two key figures that seem to hold some power: MissFortune and Gangplank . Important is here that they are total opposites, in both occupation and personality. So, if Miss Fortune is the human and (somewhat) law-enforcing side of Bilgewater... then what champion would be best to represent the rough and unforgiving ocean that is part of every sailor's reality? What champions fits best in the role of being uncontrollble and furious like an ocean's storm? (sorry, had to tune up the drama for this a bit)

The thing is: I can actually imagine Gangplank to fill that role. Or what do you guys think about it?

Overall I think it's no big deal to have old gangplank as our regular pirate,with a different champion being this kind of "davy-jones"-character. Because in the end,there is still a big distinction between the 2.

The problem I see with this: Imagine you have these two themes: Davy Jones and "a pirate dude". What would be easier and more fun to make a serious ability kit for? In the end a pirate is just that: a dude on a ship. Usually armed with gunpowder based weapons and a sword or a knife. This kind of is how the OLD GP kit came together... and that's flawed to no end. Not saying that designing something like that is impossible, but harder.

Also he doesn't have to go FULL Davy Jones... but a slight touch of supernatural? I could go with that...

Of course davy jones has some potential that the regular pirate doesn't have,but that doesn't mean that the davy jones has to step onto the toes of the regular pirate.

I think it was confirmed that Gangplanks rework will only tweak most of his abilities and give him a new E(and maybe a new passive?dunno if they talked about it),filling this one ability with a regular pirate-themed ability shouldn't be that hard.

But changing him into a davy jones guy would sound like a bit of a waste in that case,because a davy-jones guy can do so much more with his own theme,for example calling forth a ghost ship,gathering his undead crewmates and releasing the kraken. Firing his gun and letting the ship bombard the battleground just seems to normal for a character like that.

I mean Zilean is a time mage,he is all about time abilities and all,yet we still got Ekko a time traveler,because Zileans character didn't include the time-traveling aspect that ekko does.

Besides we need more pirates to fight against all these ninjasShen Akali Kennen Zed

That would be awful.

Not because a more mystical davey jonesy pirate character wouldn't make an intersting champion.

But because that's not at all who Gangplank is.

He's not got a lot of nonsense about mysterious underwater mysterious pirates-of-the-carribean-like mysterious magic and mysterious curses and such.

He's a pirate, and he doesn't need to be anything more than that.

He could be a more distinct pirate, sure.

But not anything mystical and contrary to who he actually is.

Save that for another piratey character.
