Thank you so much for Janna's new bio and story. It's heartwarming to know that in a world of gloom of and doom there's a peaceful spirit who watches over the unfortunate. I think Zaun -- and Runeterra in general -- was in desperate need of a hopeful protector, and who better than Janna?

Incidentally, were you guys at all inspired by Miss Peregrine during the making of her new character? I see some similarities there, especially the fact that they can both turn into birds, but also their roles as watchful guardians.

And just as a crazy aside, I think it'd be super awesome if Janna could take on her bluebird form in game also, perhaps something to consider for an eventual VGU.

I loved the story. It was heartwarming and captures Jannas newly made bio in a very cute and well written story.

Janna is lovely and the idea of her transforming into a bird would be super nice in a future Update of her!

When I first started reading the story, I thought was gonna be mad that Janna was no longer a human who ascended to become a protector of knowledge, but this new version of her fits really well, I think. It's not the first instance I've seen of a "man-made-god/spirit" but I really like this take on Janna.

And her story was so heartwarming, and finally featured an lgbt character (I would prefer a champion but I'll take what I can get)

Edit: totally forgot about the character in progress day! But it's good that we're finally seeing more of this, I love to see diversity in League.

Boswell Holloran addresses the narrator as "my boy" and when describing his struggles, the narrator says "Boy I loved didn't love me back." It was a really nice touch on the writing team's part

LOLOLOLOL WOW I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT!! I just thought it was a writing mistake because I'm reading it like "Gee I loved didn't love me back" , the "Boy" was used to emphasize something. Now I understand cause before I was thinking what the hell does this sentence even mean.

Overwatch made a huge step with Tracer. Maybe League will eventually keep up with that, for example confirming taric being gay or some completely new Champ in the future

Taric won't be gay.

Not because of fear but because him being gay was made to be a joke and taunt at his flamboyancy. I'm perfectly fine with Tracer being lesbian and the boy in Janna's color text being gay, but I will refute Taric because him being gay would be a "stereotypical" gay that people imagine or joke about.

there are a lot of gay people that find the stereotype funny if done correctly i would love to see taric be cannonly BI instead of just gay since it fits his personality arch better since he finds beauti in every living thing (void not included)

Pansexual, I can deal with. Actually, being pansexual makes the most sense for him since his main concern is about beauty in all of life and nature.

Also, I'm surprised I haven't read any negative posts about Janna's change from being an actual human to now being a wind spirit (which I prefer over scandalous notoriety as Valoran's #1 celeb)

I really respected IronStylus' post on this topic. When he was gathering community ideas and comments about the upcoming Taric rework—and let me add that I also greatly appreciate him doing that—a lot of us were making the usual "faaabuloooouuuuus" jokes. He made a thought-provoking and principled reply: this was ultimately not a very nice thing we were doing. If Taric is gay, he said, he should not be a campy gay stereotype.

I miss IronStylus. Such a decent fellow.

The colortext honestly made me cry when she gave him a hug and talked to him.. I feel like sometimes a lot of us need that feeling of comfort, and to hear those words, and they did a really good job of portraying the emotions with that.

I actually think that if she did take a bluebird form, it'd be for a taunt or recall or something. I'd not want it to be part of her kit. Though, if she's followed by birds and has familiars like Zephyr, that would be neat.

I don't know, her new lore definitely seems to be pushing the bluebird as her main identifier ("Even skeptics can’t help but feel their spirits lift when they spy a curious blue bird swooping through the streets of Zaun"). It could be cool as a revised form of her passive, as that's probably the least interesting aspect of her kit aside from her W.

I think she needs a VU to fit the lore better

her bird is predominantly white in game and she also doesn't look like quite like a spirit either, considering "spirits" in the league universe look like bard/kindred/kalista. Kalista Kindred Bard

There are different types of spirits.

Bard is a Celestial Being without a physical form, I'm not sure he really counts as a spirit. Kalista is more like a powerful undead who's been cursed with the duty of vengeance? Kindred is the manifestation of death in a literal, metaphorical, physical, and spiritual way. I believe that they are beyond time in a way that doesn't really make sense to mortals. Skaarl is a spirit who is the manifestation of the windy plains of Noxus. Then there're the spirits from the spirit world, the kind that Shen deals with. They just exist in another plane. Not a whole 'nother dimension, just a different world, connected to ours. Udyr's spirits are like the aspects of different animal species. Janna seems to be a wind spirit who exists based on faith/belief. Or at least she grows stronger with more faith/belief.

In conclusion, the word spirit is thrown around too much.

I would say Kalista is cured with the duty of vengeance it's just that being betrayed like that made her so mad that she decided to kill betrayers with her undeath and is able to draw power from what she does and stuff.

I don't think looking very much like a human is necessarily out of the question for Janna, in fact, I would say it's expected, at least in her case.

Janna is a being created from the wishes of seafarers looking for a motherly gentle presence to guide them across the ocean for safe passage. To me, she seems to simply be taking the form that those people would wish for.

I will say her bird should be more blue.

I kind of like the idea of janna turning into a bird in her kit

so my idea would be that shes able to transform into a bird on her passive that will also give the tailwind buff to allies but shes unable to attack but she can go over terrain like a scout, when she transforms though she'll have a 2-3 sec animation before she turns back

This was more or less my idea also! My only concern being that this would make her more of a "roaming support" which is supposed to be Bard's niche, not Janna's.

I really love the caring motherly character trope (Toriel anyone?) and love what they did with Janna. Big kudos to the narrative team. Now if only I didn't suck at playing her.

I think Janna's updated bio was done extremely well. I always thought that it was weird and out of place for Janna to be from Zaun from her original lore. That champion never gave me the impression that she was Zaun based on appearance alone would stick out like sore thumb in Zaun. But her new bio totally makes much more sense for her look and why she would is in Zaun.
