I lurk these Boards in search of a good read... Post your setting idea here ;D
What is your idea for a setting? -- The Institute of War with a few tweks doesn't count, be original! Doesn't need to be specific or a big read, just the general idea.
League of Legends -- The Totalitarian Tool Demacia and Noxus came up with the League of Legends as a tool to control the masses. For the ignorant -- the ones who don't really know any better through their own fault -- the League is entertaiment, they're thrilled to see the games, the champions are laughtable. For the ones who do know what's underneath... they gaze on the games with a grim.
This is why champions look silly and have taunts, so the people don't fear nor respect them.
For allies and rebels it's a warning. "Do not cross us."
The League features important characters of Runeterra. It ridicularizes both rebels and old allies, the former because they defy the Empire, the latter because they somehow failed to it. (Katarina might have scooped off with Garen, both didn't want to serve the Empire anymore)
Champions in the League are just toys, replicas of the existing ones out there.
The "ignorant" would be the summoners who just want to have fun and don't want more depth to their game, which accounts for the majority of the players, including me for the most part as I've only read a few bits of lore.
The Outworldly Transmitters Two stones were brought to the Emperor of old Shurima. They were the cause of the apparitions, voices and disappearences that were so much spoken of amongst merchants, mercenaries and settlements near the Mount Gargantua. (...) The stones somehow transmited information from one world to another and vice-versa, this information ranged from simple images to whole objects and persons. They became very unstable and started swallowing everyone in the Shuriman Capital, up to the point an Watcher came and confined its power before the stones could make disappear the whole Shurima Empire.
People wondered why the Watcher left the stone in Runeterra -- Maybe he thought that communication between realms would be beneficial.
Later it became popular for this strange people who were in the other side of the stones to make the apparitions fight between themselfs. Eventually the League came out, which is the result of centuries of communication.
We know alot about Runeterra because of these "portals". And they got to know a lot from us to... specially Zaun and Piltover.
