Dev Blog Request: Blood Moon Kennen

With Blood Moon Kennen announced in the PBE, I'd like to request that the relevant team members answer a few questions in a Dev Blog:

  1. Why did it take the team and company over four years to make a skin for this champ? Do these reasons also apply to other champs like Sion or Nocturne?
  2. How long was this specific skin in development and what "bumps in the road" did the team experience in the creation of this skin?
  3. Why continue to make "Blood Moon" skins when there are so many champs who already share this theme? (With these two new skins, there are 8 champions that share the "Blood Moon" theme, the most of any current theme.)

I think this might reveal more important insight into the skins team's thought processes than responding to purely positive feedback...

  1. Don't forget Swain.
  2. Nothing to add here.
  3. Umm, not the largest. Pool Party is the largest with 10 skins. Skin themes are to be encouraged.

They probably had Kennen concepts that they tried and didn't work out. I find it highly unlikely that they didn't release a new skin him for so long solely because they ignored him. KateyKhaos has said before he's not on the immediate rework list, so he's up for new skins whenever.

Pool Party: 10 skins Battlecast: 7 skins PROJECT: 6 skins

If people like a skin theme and are willing to buy it Riot's actually pretty foolish for not making more skins. It's basically free money at that point. Bloodmoon's a highly popular skin series so it's in Riot's best interests to keep that going.

Blood Moon skins are are a lore event for Ionia; they have some sort of blood moon festival. It's why most of the skins have some sort of visual reference to Japanese theater.

If I had to guess why he hasn't been updated, I'd say it's because his base model and particles are very antiquated (his eyes are just painted onto his face), so they've been waiting on a full-on visual update a la Morgana before they make anything new; the stars on that just haven't aligned yet.
