What kind of champs, based off of character or looks, would you want to see in League?

Forhonor321·9/7/2017, 5:58:36 AM·7 votes·2,008 views

Now after playing the game for quite some time now and just general knowledge, you can't just make up a million champs just because you have a good character or backstory for them; you also have to have gameplay set and what they're playestyle is, etc. But honestly, as much as I enjoy a champs gameplay, I just prefer their character, their looks and their backstories more (mostly due to me starting to hate the game after playing it for so long). Urgot has his shotgun knees and tale about strength from pain, Shyvana is a bad-ass half dragon with a fairly tragic backstory, and Jhin is a psychopathic killer that believes he's making art and dresses like he's doing just that (but with the plus of guns).

What I want to know is what are some champs you want to see added into League that are more based around their appearance, like maybe another Yordle, their character, like a drill master or witch doctor, or even what their character is like if they were in a story, like if they're a realist or optimistic, hero or villain, etc.

Here's a quick summary from my list:

  • Underlord/Pit Lord type champ: This is one of the few that I absolutely desire as a champ right now. In my short time of Dota 2 I had Underlord released and when I tried him out, he was fun, felt menacing and powerful. That's the kind of champ I want Riot to bring into the game. It'd also make for a good proper antagonist against the entire world of League as the few that are proper villains, like say Lissandra, feel more or less limited to a region or some, Zed, are updated to not have a too harsh of a light shown on them. I know the Void could be considered to fill this role but until we get a lore update on that I still think this could work. Hell somehow make him from the Void if you want, just give me my pit lord!

  • Orc: OK before you downvote me now, just hear me out on two reasons why I wish this. 1: Orcs are pretty much a staple in most fantasy games/books/movies, or at least the most popular ones. Warcraft/Warhammer have the most iconic orcs out there, Lord of the Rings game a good twist to theres from the whole constant green look, hell Magic the Gathering is now putting more Orcs in their sets recently since Tarkir. 2: Someone recently made a post about them possibly being part of the Kumungu, which would somehow fit them in the world : Link . Maybe not the best way but it's still a way. Also while on the topic...

  • Goblins: Again, they're somewhat a staple in most fantasy settings. You could work them in like they're part of the orcs or lesser orcs actually or even some sort of subspecies Yordles from deep below or heavily corrupted by magic.

  • Anti-Paladin/Anti-Hero Demacian: So for this one I've always imagined some sort of character that takes things to their own hands and believes what they're doing is right, no matter how cruel it might be, similar to the Templars in the Dragon Age games or a chaotic neutral paladin in DnD. I also want them to be from Demacia because as it stands right now there still don't have that factor of any sort of corruption. Some may argue Vayne but I find her to just be more batshit crazy and honestly could just be an independent character, she doesn't have a lot of tie-ins to Demacia outside of her family was part of it. I want a character that actually has a good connection to the faction, maybe having them as part of the military as it feels like every single champ from there is a part of the military in one way or another. Really I just want a hero from Demacia that actually shows some more of the bad that can come from it rather than having it be all nearly noble characters.

  • Elephant/Mammoth champ - Back to Magic again briefly, there is a card called Avalanche Tusker, essentially depicting a humanoid elephant/mammoth (depending on the art) warrior on it. Idk about you but I think this could be a cool champ to add to the Freljord lineup, especially as an ally for Sej or even Liss maybe (cause Ashe has way to many allies). And with other champs like Volibear and Ornn that are being of similar nature I don't see why this couldn't be an option.

Anyways, what are some champs that you want to see that are based on character or appearance?

  • Jeeves. An old, butler-type character who's eloquent, well-dressed and soft spoken. Would make a lot of sense as a support champion from Piltover. Personality-wise, I'm thinking a very kind and mannerly dude, but also somewhat suspicious and condescending -- kinda like Niles from The Nanny :)

  • Holy Assassin. A masked zealot dressed in white and gold robes who mercilessly slays those against the established order. Would look something like the Heavenly Hosts from Doctor Who, or Cosmic Reaver Kassadin. Maybe a Demacian of the Light?

  • Agile fan-wielder. An Ionian melee fighter or assassin would fit this archetype really well, perhaps with a similar design to Kyoshi from Avatar.

  • Sphinx. Maybe a Shuriman tank/support? I don't know, but I've wanted a sphinx-like creature in League for a long time now.

  • Finally, some sort of Manta Ray Humanoid would be fun. A Void background could fit, or perhaps vastaya. Would be cool if they made his/her gameplay interact with the river somehow.

  • A classic wizard. An old traditional Merlin style mage, I'm surprised League still doesn't have this. A champ like this could finally be LoL's answer to Invoker with a ton of spells. Unlikely this would happen, but would be fun if it did.

  • A Griffin champ. Another fantasy archetype that I'm surprised hasn't already made it into the game. Could be cool as a Vanguard/Battlemage hybrid, or perhaps a Warden which allows an ally to mount him. Bonus points if the ally can AA and/or cast spells whilst mounting the Griffin.

Definitely want an Anti-hero from Demacia. A Rioter brought this to my eyes a while back, but I can't remember who.

A cute, good natured and innocent little girl or boy mage with no "dark" twist or anything. Maybe an alchemist with focus on chemicals and engineered products. Or something like that.

League needs more actually mentally positive as well as children characters, ones without those silly twists to try and make everything "mature".

A corrupted knight.

Not like a fallen hero or demon-possessed, but a simple human who looked at the magical world of spirits around them and said, "I want that." I want a knight who came from nothing and became a nightmare, an amoral, ruthless abomination so gorged and bloated on stolen essence they've pushed beyond the confines of humanity. A monster hunter who kills not for glory or a thrill, but purely for the sake of accumulating power. I want them to be the bogeyman of the spirit world, a terror to all things, a monster even the dead fear.

A living scourge, a god killer.

  1. Hikikomori, female young analyst from Piltover. We need the trope of the mastermind, could imagine her to work with Vi and Caitlyn in the lore, but she sits in safety using cameras to analyse the situation and giving them instructions. On top of that, a concious hextech device would be great (in the end, the crystals hold the minds of Skarner's kind).

  2. Champion with relation to the biospheres in Zaun, experimenting with plants. Would be great if her gameplay could involve interactions with the plants on the rift. And we definitely need another champion representing the alchemy theme (Singed doesn't do it that well in my opinion).

Warlord Dienekes9/7/2017, 1:45:46 PM1 votes

Oh man I have so many. None of whom Riot will do, because they are definitely old school Riot heroes. Now most everyone are gods, demigods, ancient evils, or hextech. The only one with a possibility is the first one.

Anyway, first and foremost. More trolls. OP mentions orcs but I think currently normal fantasy orcs and Runeterran trolls share a lot of the same design space. So just make some more of them. Orcs and trolls are awesome. I would love to see more of their culture.

Now the fun ones.

A Demacian soldier. I want to see what a lowclass infantryman is like. Personally I want to see him designed as a medieval pikeman. With a long attack range and practical design. Or, if that proves too difficult to balance, Flemish goedendag wielder. Everyone in LoL is a warrior, there should be a soldier. Admittedly there was one once, but he got retconned.

Someone who uses a longsword like an actual longsword. Now this is a bit sad to me since I love swords and weapons. And we have two heroes with greatswords. Or at least large pieces of metal in a vaguely sword shape. And one of them uses his like he's a fidget spinner. Have a character whose abilities are transitional. Each of his four primary abilities puts in a specific stance with some passive. But have the switching from one stance to another be the actual ability. So, maybe Q would put him into Vom Tag Guard, while W puts him into Alber Guard. If you're in Vom Tag Guard and transitioning into Alber Guard he could do a heavy swing down that deals high damage. While if you are in Alber and transition to Vom Tag it could be a knockup. It would be hard to get right and probably harder to balance. But I would love this champion.

Noxian Drill-sergeant, not original in any way. But hell yeah I want one. Give him various shout based abilities and a continuous string of abuse at their lane mate. You could even use him to flesh out the Noxians a little. Show those little hints that he is proud of his teammates or affected by them. While still belittling every mistake they make, of course.

Similar but distinct concept, I want a Targonian hero that has nothing to do with that damn space empire. I want to see a Roman legionnaire looking guy, and have him be an actual commander. For some reason we have numerous commander heroes. None of them actually act like one. Swain the Tactician is a bird warlock. Azir is a weird sand-bird Mage, who is probably closest to a commander not because his abilities actually are things commanders would do, but because his spells are vaguely soldier looking. Then there's Nasus and Darius who are just warriors with vague hints about them also being generals in their backstory. I want a hero whose abilities influence and command their own allies. Design areas where their allies deal more damage, provide gap closers, designate targets and get additional effects when allies follow his commands. Teamwork, the champion. That's what a commander should be.

A knight and squire duo champion. I love the dynamic of a grizzled older past his prime knight teaching his younger squire how to go about being a hero. There have been several attempts to make a duo champion, but I don't think Riot has quite gotten it. But yeah, knights. Knights are great. When I originally thought of these guys there was a mounted/dismounted mechanic. But with the creation of Kled I don't see that happening.

The mounted archer. I would love to see a mongol. Unfortunately, mounted archery means two things: fast movement speed and disengage and range. That would be absolutely hell to balance when the key weakness of most adcs is that once you get to them they're easy to kill (supposedly anyway) having someone pepper their enemy with shots while they ride away all game would be a headache. Still awesome though. Because mongols!

The Hag. I want an old witch, drawing inspiration from a Baba Yaga or Frau Totenkinder. Now the fun bit, I see her as the nicest most friendly Noxian ever. Calling all the Noxian champions her children and being as sweet as she can. She's strong but she's from the old times where being strong doesn't mean you have to be a jackass. Bonus points if her ultimate involves a house with chicken legs.

A true thief character is something I dream of in league.

I'd like to see a normal guy wind up in league. Just an average citizen who was handed a sword and shoved toward the nearest battle. I have no idea what they'd do with him, but it would be fantastic.

  • An elemental lightning mage

  • A Champion who uses his/her voice as a weapon

  • A champion who uses his/her hair as a weapon

  • A parasite champion

  • A female ascended champion

Weapons:

  • Power Saw Imagine how deadly it would be to have a champion who uses a power saw. Perhaps they have an ultimate where they suppress the target and they rapidly take true damage from the power saw's blades. You could have a horror theme'd skin to go along with this.

  • Rifle The only guns we've seen so far are handguns, cannons, shotguns, sniper rifles, and mounted weaponry. Yet we've never seen a character who uses a rifle, just any rifle. Yeah, I know, it sounds like Soldier 76 but it doesn't have to be an assault rifle even though that'd be fun. Perhaps a hunting rifle. Just the kind you'd see from the Great War period. Just with a Hextech twist.

  • Wand or Book A Harry Potter theme'd champion. I've never seen a champion who uses a wand or even a magic book before. Since a lot of us has seen Harry Potter, you'd already know what I'm going with this.

  • Dog Someone once a concept where a blind man uses a dog to see or attack. This sounded like an interesting concept and I wonder how Riot would pull this off. Other mobas I've seen have never made this character before so let's see if Riot can be the first.

  • Lance For a weapon like this, you'd most likely see this weapon used by people on mounts. Since we have riders like Sejuani and especially vehicle users like Corki , it shouldn't hurt to have another rider champion to use this kind of weapon. He could be a horseman or a wyvern rider. I'm busy creating a concept based on this character. It's gonna take awhile for me to finish it.

Character Archetypes:

  • Protagonist We have plenty of characters who have this protagonist personality. Like Ezreal . I mean his looks alone makes him look like a protagonist. But the kind I'm talking about are the ones you see in classic fairytales. You know, the one who fights with a sword and shield to fight an evil dragon and saves the damsel in distress? That kind of protagonist. Maybe a King Arthur champion.

  • Horror While it's true that we have characters who are horror theme'd, they don't exactly have that horror type of feel to their character. Nocturne did pretty good with the sound of his ultimate. Urgot rework got freaky with the ultimate shredding his victim completely. Meanwhile, being hit by his ultimate and chained up also meant putting chains on your screen. So let's combine the horror theme'd champion with the scary screen effects. It'd be like some kind of typical jumpscare or maybe have the screen have this unsettling effect like when the hud starts to decay or when your items start to rearrange themselves.

  • Saboteur I want a character who's kit is entirely based on sabotaging the offenses. So like nullifying ability power or dullifying physical damage. It's not about resisting the attack but making the attack do less than it should. An alternative to tenacity. It would mostly likely be a support class, but this support class is more towards the offensive compared to most supports who are defensive with their healings and shields.

  • PTSD This is gonna sound. . . serious if you think about it. How about a soldier who suffers from PTSD? While this is a fantasy world, it still has the potential to traumatize it's soldiers with all of its overblown magic. Since Piltover has the technology, it would most likely be an outsider who would get PTSD, especially if they try to take on Piltover's military. According to the story behind Progress Day, it's most likely a Noxian who would get PTSD from attempting to take over Piltover by aggression. It's like in the anime, Gate: JSDF where the empire tried to take over Japan only to be overwhelmed by modern military tech that's not even used by the best military force.

  • World War I or II soldier Now this for sure may sound serious but since we have Battlefield One and of course, Call of Duty World War II, and their other old Call of Duty games then it shouldn't be a problem to have a World War theme'd character in League of Legends. This relates to the PTSD and Rifle champion I've talked about earlier. Reasons being that, if you know your histories, there were plenty of soldier from back then who suffered PTSD and Rifles were their basic firearms. I was thinking of making this concept myself. But it's gonna be difficult for me since my character is young. He doesn't have to look exactly like a World War I or II soldier. He could also have that Hextech twist to his design.

A nazgul like character, maybe. Nazgul like because Grim Reaper theme is already filled. So mysterious, unknown, black siluet without a sycthe but sword.

A celestial being with semi ethereal apperance that is like outer space embodiment. Basically Cosmic Reaver Kassadin but with less clothes. Also in the darker side, since 2 of celestials are mostly considered as good/natural.

Personality wise:

  • An underdog. Ekko kinda fits but I want someone who is more like Deku from MHA someone who isnt cocky or rude but just a really hard worker who is super positive.

  • A shy character. By that I don't mean someone who just doesn't have voice lines but someone who is actually verbally shy or anxious.

  • A depressed champ could be cool. someone who is grieving or or is just disgusted by how Runeterra currently is and wants to change it.

  • More final boss type characters. We have a bunch of kings and leaders, but we don't have very many evil overlords.Syndra and Lissandra kinda fits the mold but I'm thinking more like Thanos from the Avengers. Some big bad guy everyone would be afraid of, even those who work under them. I think if the void would have some kind of general that would work really well!

Theme wise:

  • More teenage/ young adult characters.

  • More mobile skill shot run-n-gun style champions. Ahri and Ezreal are my favorite champs gameplay wise. Any more like that would be great.

  • More combo heavy champs. Riven is really fun, more please.

  • Steampunk designs. Rumble and Viktor are both pretty cool. But I would like more of a gritty steampunk protagonist. Ekko kinda fits this but I would like someone who falls more into the alchemist/inventor steampunk role. Like mei from MHA but a little less eccentric and little more gritty. It could be really cool.

  • A true battle mage Ekko and Mordekaiser get pretty close. But my idea would be more someone that qwe are all spells and r would be with a sword or warhammer that changes all the abilities to different attacks with the melee weapon. I imagine q to be something like corki r some small skill shot projectile that is somewhat spammable. W could ignite the weapon and have auto attacks apply a dot. E could be another spell or maybe some kind of dash. But then R would change qwe into different types of sword strikes. Q would be a long range cleave kinda like kayne w but skinnier, w would be a half circle sweep in front of you. E would be a lunge like fiora q. and R would just be a blast in an area around you like Riven W but a little bigger and no stun but just damage. They could be a lightening mage who when they use R creates a sword of electricity and when they Recasts R stabs it into the ground and it explodes. Dealing big damage but ending the ult. Basically a combination of what I love about Riven and Corki . A mage that when they go in they are super combo heavy and are jumping around like crazy. The trade off to this character would have to be low damage numbers and no cc or tankiness. So they would be forced to play safe and choose when to all in wisely.

  • A griffin or shpinx that is the playable character/ Gnar and Shyvana get really close but I dislike the transformations. I just wish I had more of feeling like a primal beast but also majestic at the same time. I want to feel like animal that is intelligent and maybe even can speak English. We do already have Chogath Warwick SkarnerVolibear and TahmKench though which all kind of fill the role of big animal champs as well so this one probably will never happen.

Ekko for me is a champion that scratches the surface of like 4 or 5 different themes that I think all could have there own specific characters or at least characters that share small similarities with him but add a whole new twist to a small concept like battle mage, or him being somewhat of an underdog. Like how Orianna and Syndra both have game play all focused around balls but the overall champs become very different. You can have two different styles of underdogs but one, Ekko, is confident and kind ballsy, while the other could be more logical or really nervous and disheartened.

Conjuration Wizard

You know the wizards in skyrim that summon Wolves, Warriors, Frost Atronach? Thats what I want. Not the Yorick that just summons weak little minions. I mean a Wizard that can summon a Gromp, a Wolf, a Raptor, and for their ultimate the wizard summons Wolves, Raptors, Gromp and Krugs

a blood based mage/assassin that uses blood instead of mana. i get we have warwick with his w rn, amd we have vladimir the hemomancer, but a champion that is more savage and animalistic. possibly from kumungu. vlad kinda fits this theme, but instead of being broken with spellvamp, he uses his hp as a replacement to mana similar to vlad, but his secondary bar is fresh blood that he can use in place of hp. I've draw up a simple concept that should give an idea of what i mean. Passive is Blood ritual, upon damaging enemy champion or epic monster or killing minion/neutral monster, gains fresh blood which powers spell in place of hp. q is blood claw. skillshot ability that slows enemy and deals flat dmg similar to old zac q w is savage bite, point and click slow that damages and applies a bleed/burn effect similar to liandry's e is bloodlust. once an enemy champion is damaged he can launch himself at said champion, dealing flat damage. ult is to your heart's content! when an enemy champion is killed/low hp, he can channel (if and only if dead) and consume their heart (just stands over them and an effect similar to cho's feast is shown) restoring hp and dealing dmg (if enemy is alive).

Me - a handsome man or beautiful woman, with a spirit that don't match the sterotype of noxians, good natured. That dual wield a sword and a mace like Vern of the blue stripes (? From the Witcher series.) That gains Morgana's love, and gets her and Kayle to reconcile thier feud and they all live happily together. A multi functioning fighter that can change weapons on the fly, sword hand for crit, mace for armor shred. Basically would have 7 different spells. One set to crit Squishies, the other to duke it out with tanks but removing thier durability (wouldn't stay shredded if they switch back to sword for balance but riot would ignore that anyway.). :3c teehee

Random animated body part like a giant hand - would be a melee mage fighter like Diana/mordekaiser but with some better cc. Like a short time stun/slam grapple. A finger poke skill shot, silly stuff.

Okay I'm lazy.

Edit a good champion not shit like Kennen or volibear that has something to do with lightning. Could be a fighter with swords or a mage but something actually appealing instead of the trash we currently have.
