Is the Kraken Character Archetype Filled by Illaoi?
I'm just curious if you guys at Riot think this or not. Illaoi is the Kraken Priestess so that does that mean a Kraken champion couldn't be in the game due to similarities or what?

I mean there's also Vel'Koz.
I think it's sorta filled between the two.

I find it hillarious that vel's slaps are somehow more satisfying than illaois.
Riot has shown us that they have no qualms reusing certain themes, we have like 5 champions who have something to do with a bird. Real talk though, I've been waiting for the offensive water mage archetype to be filled for years, I'd be hyped if we got kraken themed champion who could fill that role.
I'd think that would just be tough from a design perspective. Like, 99% of champs are bipedal, the only exceptions I can really think of are Vel'koz and Rek'sai, and they still have fairly simple body shapes (Ball with three tentacles, big tube bug thing). I suppose Aurelion Sol would be another, but he does still sorta seem to have two clear "legs", and he floats instead of walking. Corki also has no legs, but he flies.

So the detailed animations for 8+ tentacles dragging their way around the Rift would probably give some poor modeling person a migraine. Then the skin team would get passed the migraine.
Riot's done a lot with their animation work over the years, though, so I could still see it happening. It just might be tricky.
You really shouldn't worry about thematics being "taken":
Vel'Koz was originally designed as a lava kraken, and Illaoi fills the Kraken Priestess (very unique mind you) niche. I think at this point the niche is too narrow, it'd have to be connected to Nautilus/Fizz in some way.
I think a Kraken champ would be difficult eitherway. I mean the kraken is known to be this huge monster,so making such a being it would need to be shrunk down at which point it would just look like a fantasy-octopus/squid.
That being said,I don't think that Illaoi would prevent any other kraken-themed champs to get into the game,they've shown already that they are ok with making champs who share certain themes as long as they still have some that are unique to them
