Petricide - The thing that might potentionally wipe out the planet
Generally the substance is a bit weird already, as it can seemingly infinitely absorb energy without changing its own temperature or status, unless it really absorbs a fuckton of it and even then it needs to be in a specific shape to have any effect (like, Galio was in shape of a living being, and so function followed form). From a purely physical perspective it appears weird. Just where does all the magic go when it is absorbed?
I'd personally like to think of the substance as an unnatural anomaly, something weird that has been created by accident during the Rune Wars. After all the weirdest shit happens when world runes clash, the creation of petricide being the more harmless sort of things. However, when we consider that it was all created in some kinda of massive magic explosion and seeing that there is enough of it to fuel an entire civilication... then that means the atmosphere of Runeterra consists to a small but consistent part of microscopic petricide-particles.
Hey, but they are several thousand meters up in the air, what can they do up there anyways? Well, there is ONE being that flies around in that altitude:
- who realized that for some weird reason the MAGICAL seal that was placed on him grows weaker on this very planet. It only makes sense as the petricide in the atmosphere slowly weakens his crown.
And once Aurelion Sol is free he will vaporize Mt. Targon and probably the entire planet "to forge a new heaven".
So to whoever caused the creation of petricide with their stupid Rune Wars: you might have dammnated this planet to total annihilation.
