Can I like something that's completely subjective without being downvoted to hell?

EDIT: I'm going to try to stop replying to new comments that aren't replies, as I keep getting straw-manned. It's not that hard to read five paragraphs, people. If you did, I assure you it would assist you if you referred back to the argument you're trying to counter and relate it back to the points you made to make sure there is definite correlation.

With the recent release of the new Frostblade Irelia skin, certain issues have come to a more obvious light, and I felt they should be addressed. Before you go off on me, I don't have an opinion when it comes to the changes to this skin in particular. However, I find it very upsetting that anyone who actually likes it is getting buried under a mountain of downvotes.

It's a skin, and thusly people are going to have different opinions about it, just like with any other art form. And just like with any other art form, the opinion of whether you like it or not is from you. It's not because it's obviously of poor quality; that's just your opinion.

The major complaint about Frostblade seems to be that it is too much of a thematic shift from the old version. However, not everybody sees it that way. I have seen plenty of comments that have tried to get out that it's a good skin for what it is: a skin. Viewing it as an adaptation is not necessarily the wrong thing to do, but neither is viewing it as a standalone skin.

That's really what I want to emphasize here: Nobody's wrong in this debate; it's all a matter of what you think of the skin. That's why it really makes me shake my head when I see that there is no discussion going on here. I can understand with gameplay (it's not necessarily right in all situations, but I can understand it), but there is no excuse for the behavior I have seen recently. Art is supposed to be up to the viewer's interpretation; and whether they like it or not is up to them, and we should respect that regardless of if we agree with them or not.

You are free to hate on the Frostblade Irelia skin. I have read your arguments and completely understand why you would want the changes you are demanding. However, unlike gameplay, your arguments will only work on a limited amount of people. What you see as flaws could end up being what others see as what makes the skin great. Nobody's right, and nobody's wrong. Please, share your opinions and respect those of others. If you disagree, please discuss why. That's what the Boards are for. Treat each other as equals, and resolve your issues. Or don't, that's an outcome, too. But please, stop acting like there's only one right answer here.

Most people who are expressing their distaste for this skin have good reason to, because they bought the old skin and liked the old skins design. But now, besides Infiltrator (think that’s the one) Frostblade is the only skin that had a major rework in both Theme and design. And when people pay for a product, and then said product gets changed into something they hate, and are told to “just deal with it” I think they’re justified to complain.

As for the people who like the new design though, it’s a complete opposite side of the story. Most who say they like it more than likely don’t own Frostblade already, and have no attachment to the old design. Sure, there could be the very few who do own the skin and like the new design, but they’re certainly outclassed by the former. It’s a big reason why most of the posts supporting the new design say things like “Quit whining, it looks good, you’re just entitled” - they don’t understand how the other half feels, they just want to tell them to shut up.

The voting system is intended to show opinion. If people don't like the opinion of the poster, they are free to downvote. By downvoting you are showing your opinion. I dont think anyone who downvotes posts related to Irelia's skin do it because they don't like the opinion, but rather disagree with it instead. Sure it's not a good thing to downvote a post that's addressing both sides, but these are people. Making a post like this, sadly, won't change the actions of people.

Viewing it as an adaptation is not necessarily the wrong thing to do, but neither is viewing it as a standalone skin.

But it IS an adaption... and the sci fi tech scheme was cooler than the snow day irelia we got.

You dont just change something then forget about the original.

Riot changed something without even trying to stay true to the reasons people bought it in the first place. It doesn't matter if the new content is good, it's wrong for Riot to do this.

Yeah no, I didn't pay for a skin just so someone on the internet can say "wow I like this skin now lolz"

The skin I liked and bought was radically changed into an abomination, Riot doesn't do refunds because they're "player focused", and now people like you say "lol you're not entitled to the product you purchased, you'll accept the rations that the stateRiot gives you comrade!"

Funny how digital goods are the only place where this trash communist shit is acceptable, any other bait and switch like this would get reamed with complaints and litigation.

"But the TOS says Riot can do whatever and is immune from laws!"

The sooner Congress and the EU take their fingers out of their ass and get their dirty corrupt paws on TOS and lootboxes, the better.

I've been playing one PBE and I actually love Frostblade the way it is now I hate how it's focused on her butt. You know, I'm a girl irl so the whole "give her her butt back" makes me a little upset, and I bet a majority do not even play her the way they're making it out to be.

The problem people have is that it is butchering the old skin theme. It's not that the new skin is bad per se. It's that it is nothing like the old one. So objectively it's not a subjective issue. Either the skin is a poor representation of the old one or it isn't. It has nothing to do with the quality of the skin. Moreso the quality of the representation. Most people like the skin by itself, they simply do not like that the skin they purchased is no longer represented. So I have to disagree with you on this point. I personally don't own the skin, and if this remake stays I won't ever buy it. But I don't carry a torch in the discussion and as such have stayed out of it. I just wanted to throw as objective an opinion as I can muster into this particular thread.

WE'VE PAID FOR THE CONCEPTION OF FROSTIRELIA SKIN, NOT THE WORD! BRING IT BACK OR FOOLED MY MONEY.

Simple, that's the consumer's right. What I have seen, these consumers are fighting for their right, if you try to support them to defend the legitimate right, otherwise you lose the basic common sense and judgment.

Can you distinguish between right and wrong now?

This wouldn't be a problem if people ahem

#Actually voted based on the post's quality

Instead of doing stupid things like wanting to assert their power over those who don't have popular opinions but be anonymous, or to censor opinions they don't like

But nah that's no fun, let's make boards an echo chamber by downvoting everything we don't like instead of simply ignoring it. I just HAVE to voice my disagreement by abusing the voting algorithm and hiding posts, I'm too cowardly and lazy to actually make a decent response.

GD is the only decent section of the boards imo because anything can make it into hot/best.
