@Riot: Is there the possibility of VO-only updates?

I'd love to have some voiceovers from the older champs expanded - compared to they new champs they just sound repetive and lame with their very limited number of lines.

So, would it be possible or not?

It's definitely possible, but I would say it's highly unlikely. This is because VO is a very time consuming and expensive process for us (just the nature of it, not a bad thing), so if we're going through all of the trouble to do a champs VO we would likely put some gameplay or visual changes in at the same time.

Of course it's possible. In fact, they should/need to be doing this already. Whenever a voice-actor is cast, they should work out a way to easily call them back or at the very least, an easy way to record extra lines.

It is a little sad when you think about how Jinx was released without any little additions to Vi or Caitlyn despite the story connection.

Sadder when you realize that Darius and Draven were released back-to-back with no references to each other at all.

The old man on the Howling Abyss makes a sand witch joke to Lissandra and doesn't get a new line for Azir's release? What blasphemy is that?

If anything, champion VOs should be way longer and references to future/unfinished content can be stored for hook up at a later date. This is the type of foresight and planning that will make things great.

Rengar was released a month before Kha'zix and he had references ready. If it's not yet, then it should be more common than it currently is.

I second this.

They need to add character interactions between Heimerdinger and Viktor. They are the two greatest inventors in the game, but have vastly different approaches. Not to mention they both even have a robotic arm. Also, Draven and Darius need interactions.

I agree 100%. It's so annoying to play a champ like Malphite or someone only to hear the same tired lines over and over again.

I mean,Diana was release about a year after Leona, yet so has no reference to our beloved Sun warrior.Um.......missed opportunities?

Chogath Blitzcrank Fiddlesticks Malphite Nidalee just her champ select quote lol, Tryndamere Vladimir . Actually, Cho and Malphite probably just need full VU's. Anyway, I agree with your idea :)

Here are all the champions that need new VO (because they have so little, for lore reasons, or for amazing character to character interactions):

Ahri Akali Alistar Amumu Blitzcrank Brand Caitlyn Chogath Corki Diana Darius DrMundo Evelynn Ezreal Fiddlesticks Fiora Galio Gangplank Gragas Graves Irelia Janna JarvanIV Jax Jayce Kassadin Katarina Kayle Kennen KogMaw Leblanc LeeSin Leona Lux Malphite Malzahar MissFortune Mordekaiser Morgana Nami Nautilus Nunu Olaf Pantheon Poppy Rammus Riven Rumble Ryze Shaco Shen Shyvana Singed Soraka Swain Talon Taric Teemo Thresh Tryndamere Udyr Urgot Vayne Veigar Viktor Vladimir Volibear Warwick MonkeyKing XinZhao Yorick Ziggs Zilean Zed

Probably even forgot some of them, like wow, so much.

Yeah, whenever a champ gets a model-update only I think "oh man,he looks cool now,but his animations and VO still suck :("

I would love it if some champs got some VO updates from time to time(and no not only during events, like Renekton or Cassio)

I believe the primary issue is contracting work with the voice actors/actresses. An idea like this was raised before in the past, and basically real world limitations nullified the practicality of it.

That's not to talk about bi-annual/annual audio updates, though.

Jesus is Savior3/4/2015, 1:33:23 PM1 votes

The answer is no, because the voice actors work on a per-champion basis via contract. They are not a persistent hourly/salary employee that works for Riot.

Riot is not going to pay an expensive voice actor to come in if they are not completely remaking the champ.
