Broadly speaking, it started out as a generic fantasy setting. In the last couple of years Riot Games have been meticulously crafting a universe for the world and it's inhabitants, which included retconning certain parts. The League of Legends, for example. However it incorporates a lot of swathes of fiction, most notably steampunk assets for the regions of Piltover and Zaun.

There are a few champs that could be considered Super Heroes (Like Zac or Jayce) /Super villians (Like Veigar or Jinx)... but not everyone.

In OG lore (Which barely any of it is cannon anymore) Many of the champions are Celebrities. Not superheroes. They are well known and are payed well. For example Twisted Fate and Evelynn (in the old lore) had a fling and it was a "big thing" The Journal of justice was a newspaper made by riot a while ago that was discontinued but it was basically CNN for Runeterra. kind of a cool thing. If you can still find it, read it. It was interesting.

I would say fantasy (Swords and Sorcery) as far as broard categories...

the champs are just bad asses of all sorts from different places and times and realms

I'd say more just "heroes" than super heroes.

It's basically a combination of steampunk and medieval badassery.
