Disappearance of Marcus Du Couteau (A far fetched but interesting thought)

Yes this is a repost of the old one, because the last one got spammed by a Katarina main who insisted that Kat and Garen aren't Canon and if you don't think they're canon 1 this ain't the discussion for it, because 2 its been confirmed in canon interactions of Legends of Runeterra, skin spotlights did an excellent video on it with Noxus Interactions. With that said if you have a thought on THIS topic, please feel free to share, but if you want to argue about a fictional relationship between two fictional characters please don't

In Talon's bio we know General Marcus Du Couteau is missing, Swain hints that he is dead but not by Swain's doing.

After looking into the Mageseekers of Demacia I found it amusing how the head mageseeker isn't mentioned by name

https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Mageseekers

however the head of the mageseekers is apparently married to Tianna Crownguard who still has no reference as to what her husbands name is.

https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Tianna

Wouldn't it be absoultely hilarious is we were to find out that the reason Swain states he is dead is because he is 'dead to Noxus' rather than dead dead? Even more funny would be if he were dead to Noxus because he feel in love with Tianna Crownguard on the battlefield, similar to how his daughter fell in love with Garen.

Shit happens, and Marcus abandon's Noxus, using his apparent death as a cover up to avoid retribution. He makes his way to Demacia where thanks to his immense skills and the high rank that Tianna holds, he is not only able to blend in but also thrive, joining the mageseekers and rising through the ranks until he is the head mageseeker.

In aftermath Jarvan the 3rd orders Xin to take his letter to the head of the mageseekers again, not using his name.

Xin Zhao nodded gravely, and attached it to his belt. “Who is it for?” “The head of the mageseeker order,” said the king. He held up a finger. “And not to one of his lackeys, either. To him directly.”

What if Marcus is the head of the mageseekers, and no one knows his full name aside from Tianna, which is why she doesn't outright accuse Katarina of tempting Garen or anything, but simply states that she doesn't approve.

Now this probably isn't the case, but it was a fun hypothetical to come up with.

Thoughts?

https://i.imgflip.com/3nyboa.jpg Thats my head canon of what Marcus looks like, it might be wrong, and the camera quality is bad, but I wanted to portray him with the same red hair of his daughter, with silver streaks in his age, and a more haggard but calm visage

As far as I know, Swain references him as dead through 'Do they know who killed your father? Or do they still blame me.' There is no reason to think this references metaphorical death. Why would Swain word it like that. Why would he reference his killer, when with this theory it would be metaphorical suicide. Swain would probably ask 'Do they know what happened to your father? Or do they still think I killed him.'

While the point is an interesting take, consider that it must also accomodate what we also know about the general

From the discussions we held at r/talonmains and the release of both Katarina and Cassiopeia lore bits, there are 2 important things to consider:

  1. Marcus is involved with the Black Rose in one way or another

With this I don't mean that he's surely a member of the Black Rose. However, in Cassio's lore it is implied that he has some connections to it for 2 facts: for one, his wife Soreana is part of it and I find it VERY difficult for a master assassin to not notice anything about your own wife; for two, when Marcus honours Swain's coup, in Cassio's lore Soreana's reaction is written as "Outraged and disgusted by her husband’s betrayal", but to betray you have first to give your allegiance

  1. Marcus is HEAVILY involved with Swain

Taking from the first point, I'd also like to add that from quotes of Swain towards Katarina, Katarina's short story (especially the last part) and her bio, it seems like Marcus was not really bread and butter with Swain. Or better, what it seems (although it is very speculative) is that Marcus sent Katarina to kill Swain, but she betrayed him and sworn allegiance to Swain's cause

WIth this said, my question is: how do you think your theory goes together with what seems to have been hinted to us by Riot?

I personally don't really care one way or the other about the legitimacy of the fan ship of Kat and Garen. I just want to point out that it has been confirmed by Rioters that things from Legends of Runeterra have the potential to be canon, but aren't besides things that are already cannon.

Also on that note the only things that are considered hard canon are things you find on the Universe page. Any Rioter comments are considered soft canon until they are confirmed by a Universe update due to the potential to be changed.

Also champion quotes also tend to get meta at times so take those with a grain of salt too.

Marcus does have history with the Black Rose, that could be why he opted to join the Mage Seekers...

I don't think it's true, but it's a fun thought.

Tbh you asking for people to derail a thread if you start it with "please don't talk about this controversy. also here is my opinion on it. but don't talk about it".

I think Du Couteau is cool but we don't really know enough about him for me to be invested in him. And if this theory were canon, then he is going to be radically different than the character we do know a little about. At that point it feels like you are just reusing the name because of it's nostalgic value and might as well make a new character.
