Just want to point this out about Varus and the triple-darkin dude

If people are questioning whether 2 PARAGRAPHS of lore are better than 5-6 paragraphs + 2 comics + 1 video, then we know we have a problem with the new story... And the sad thing is, it seems like the 2 paragraphs may be the winner....in the boards for sure. I'm fairly sure it's the winner in Inven (the KR counterpart) as well. Even on reddit there are haters even though its less than the boards. Imagine how much much angrier the community would get if there were no videos/comics about the triple-darkin dude whatsoever. Or imagine HOW.MUCH.WORSE. it would be if VARUS had the comics and the music video and it was retconned in favor of the triple-darkin dude.......

Any preference between the two lores is subjective, no argument could be made against one that can’t also be made against the other. Ultimately then this is a change about Varus being an appropriate piece of whatever Riot imagines the total lore to br

You are right.

But many supporters of the new lore haven't stated why. It LOOKS amazing, but is it really more developed? I know there are silent fans. And one fan did tell me his take on why he liked it more. Imo he added a lot of details into the story to make it more developed.

But on its own, what is good about the new story? Besides appearance, which the video was great.

Edit: to be fair, one person also said Revenge is a cliche. But so is love (he had no further response).

Well I like the new lore better because it provides more directions for Varus to go in. Old Varus’ scope was limited to Noxian champions and it was basically written in the stars that one day he was going to keel over and die.

New lore adds a dimension of goals and motivations to the lore that the old one rather lacked. I get the feeling that the story has an ambiguous destination rather than a forgone conclusion.

:( I hate to generlize. But that seems to be the attitude I get from so many supporters. It is fine if Varus is gay, but the new story is still not good (imo).

I don't feel it's a matter of "better or worse" and if I had to pick a "better" standalone story from an objective perspective it would have to be the new lore. I can't deny that the production value of the music video and comic book communicate a really interesting story, although I can't help but wonder how good the old lore could have been if it was actually updated and expanded with all the production value and effort that went into the new one.

But that's really completely irrelevant. The new lore is not the old lore and it invalidates the old lore. The new Varus is not the old Varus and it's painful to have Riot label him as Varus because that means the old character has been completely wiped from canon.

That’s what the retcon is man, Riot changing champions to fit their overall goal. It’s sad to see some champions change, but ultimately you won’t be able to enjoy the new lore if you keep clinging onto the old.
