Is it possible that the corruption that changed Varus turned him into a Darkin?

One of the lines from the Vastayan stories made the implication that Aatrox is actually the blade and not the being holding it. Aatrox now being an embodiment of war and bloodshed.

This made me wonder if that corruption beneath the Ionian temple wasn't Darkin in origin. In being embraced by it, Varus became one too, his soul bound to his bow rather than his body, and his single-minded pursuit of vengeance becoming the sole definition of his being.

Also, looking at Varus's splash and how his eyes glow purely in the same purple coloration as the energy around his hands and bow, like how Aatrox's eyes and sword glow the same color. It's most noticeable on Justicar Aatrox's splash art, where his sword hand is glowing in almost the same way that Varus's left hand is on his base splash.

Maybe I'm just thinking about this too hard. I don't think the 'corruption' was brought up in any of the vastaya stories, but I'd have to read them again. Varus definitely comes off as more demonic than just bestial to me.

We really don't know enough about the Darkin either way. We only have some tidbits about Aatrox's appearances in the past, and the suggestion that they're living weapons.

Rather than being a complete Darkin like Aatrox, Varus could be a look into how a Darkin comes to exist.

Maybe there was a Darkin of Vengeance in the past, who was either sealed or buried beneath that temple, its being not dying but continuing to loom in wait. Its influence could've helped nudge Varus further towards his desire for revenge against Noxus, thus turning him into its reincarnation, so to speak.

I dont think so.

Thanks to the new Lore of the Vastaya, we know that Riot is hinting that the Darkins are living weapons... like a lot of people thought... However, even if it seems that the Bow of Varus is alive, the source of his powers doesnt come from the Bow. It comes from the corruption as you said... so, we could say that the bow is a manifestation of the corruption and not viceversa.

I think the bow is the darkin that is slowly consuming Varus. Aatrox was probably human until he found the darkin sword that consumed him. I think these darkin weapons try to find stronger and stronger hosts and that Aatrox (or the sword that controls him) is probably trying to groom tryndamere to be a host.

I don't think Aatrox is the blade per se, unless the body is a manifestation of the sword in a sentient form to wield itself (like the zangetsu wielding himself in bleach for reference) but this would 'axe' the Varus = darkin theory. Unless Varus is the bow and not the person. Which is a complete rewrite of his character.

Basically what I am trying to get at, is the the 'Darkin' may be the weapons, but the person wielding those weapons are still, well, persons. Hence the blade is not Aatrox. But rather the blade whatever its name is, is the reason Aatrox is considered a Darkin and thus Varus, should his bow be confirmed a Darkin, he would also be considered the Darkin of Vengeance is this case I suppose.

Varus was released long before Aatrox, BUT this would be something cool to make him into if his VU ever comes.
