Some quick thoughts on the latest skin teaser
If you haven't checked yet, a teaser for the next batch of skins showed up earlier today. And unlike Arcade or PROJECT, I actually am getting excited over these skins. They look fun, very well made, and more importantly are to champs that haven't gotten one in a while, except for one. So, let's just jump to my thoughts now.
##Elderwood
Ahri - ...God dammit Riot. Can you not -repeat** NOT** - give another skin to one of the K/DA champs until it's been a year? This is the same issue I had with Kai'Sa in Arcade or Akali in PROJECT. They have yet to surpass one year of time before they get another skin thrown into their collections. I understand that these are somewhat popular champs, but it's really starting to get ridiculous now that 3 out of 4 champs are from K/DA, which isn't even a full year old yet. I'm almost now expecting Eve to get a skin soon before the year is up at this point now (please don't let that be true).
Now, as to the actual skin, it's alright. The effects are good, I like the colors, it's a decent skin. But something that bothers me is how much similarity it has towards Neeko. The outfit Ahri wears and even the recall she has just heavily reminds me of her. It just feels a bit confusing when you have a champ that has such a similar skin which is now identical to another champ's base look.
Nocturne - I'm happy that he's finally getting another skin, it's been over three years! Overall, I like the design. The animations, like Dragon Oracle Udyr, do kind of bring the quality down but I don't really feel it's that noticeable since the VFX are pretty nice. I especially love that they're going for this dark, gnarled wood spirit look to him. His horn mask I especially like.
Veigar - One of my old classic champs that I am glad to see get some love. He's probably my favorite design out of this particular set. I love the look of this hermit wizard/druid. I kind of wish they went with more of a muchroom feel/look to him but this still looks pretty good. His prison and his recall I think are what sell this for me.
##Infernal
Shen - Kind of funny how I made a recent post talking about him and now seeing him here. Overall, I think it's a good design. The design of the sword is interesting, his overall look is nice, and it manages to make Shen look very cool, but more importantly different from the rest of his skins, yet still recognizable.
Galio - I want to say Galio is good but I also feel like he's a bit wasted. I mean, it's a cool look but when I take a closer look at it, it doesn't look that special. If anything, it almsot feels like they re-tweaked the old skin with certain texture changes (abs, armor, etc) but when I do compare this with his base, they are different. I don't know why. Maybe if they went bigger with the wings looking different it would help, but right now I'm hating him, but I'm not feeling it.
Varus - A pretty good choice for this. Good effects, nice body design, fits in the theme pretty well. Not much else to say about him.
Overall, I think this is a pretty good batch to look forward to. Yes, there are a few issues I have with it, but as a whole I think it's fine. It'll be interesting to see what comes next now and hopefully will be up for a little love. What do you guys think?
