I just love how the consumer is always the idiot, who has to put up with all this shit but is also the one held accountable for it at the same time. This logic only works as long as a better alternative is provided but since we usually face monopolise who control the supply and are not willing to provide better products our demands are usually shaped by what is provided and not vice versa. They just have to lower the bar constantly and people will eat it up eventually. The only alternative left then as an informed customer is to protest in most cases.
but how many things are you willing to boycott?
- boycotting vid games because of microtransactions?
- boycotting meat to stop animal cruelty?
- stop wearing clothes because sweatshops exist?
- stop traveling to save the environment?
- not buying a car for the same reason?
and the list goes on
And most of these situations are lose-lose situations for you anyway. Use a plane for travel and you are responsible for the destruction of the planet or don´t do it and you are responsible for pilots losing their jobs. You can´t win and the customers shouldn´t be expected to fix all the issues created by other people in the industry on his own.
"Sex sales" is old as time and that people voice their displeasure when riot goes overboard is actually a good thing.
