I like the rework. Galio went from "a character I just never play" to "a character I could certainly play sometime".

But here's the thing.

He looks SO DIFFERENT from how he was, that my thought goes to my mains and how I would feel if they were reworked into someone so different (basically.... into someone else). I'd feel like my main was removed from the game and replaced with someone else.

It doesn't matter if I actually like this new Galio better than the old one. I just think.... if such a big change happened to one of my mains, I'd be so pissed.

Now I kinda hope the Swain rework doesn't happen that soon.

My issue with people that feel this way is that if Riot listened to these people, their hands are essentially tied when trying to express their creativity with these champ concepts.

Think about it. For obvious reasons Riot will never make another gargoyle champion, so they are going all out on Galio, making him as great as they can. If their hands were tied because of a poor design from long ago, then they are essentially stifled and there really is no point to a VGU is there? If they are always going to look the same why improve?

Was the old Galio really a bad design? Technically this new Galio isn't anymore original or unique.

Why we like it more, is probably because of the prettier graphics and the fact he's the novelty of the month.

I really can't judge Galio's design being bad, I just think it's unfulfilled. He's a generic gargoyle right now. Visually speaking he is quite unimpressive.

in that case you take generic gargoyle and you expand on it. there are so many things they could do and still keep the original feel and idea of the champion intact. with new Galio they literally said fuck it and deleted anything that resembles classic Galio.

Eh I can only speak for myself but giant marble human statue with wings is much less cool than gargoyle demon creature.

But I'm not a Galio player and have no real desire to start playing the rework. So my opinion is probably not high on the list of things people should listen to.

i know this feeling when u ve some different opinion. sometimes its hard and annoying. one of the first times a agree with the crowd who like the direction.

so, imo, a demon doesnt fit mighty demacia. gold and marble fits there VERY well. i am surprised that so many ppl ignore his new label THE COLOSSUS.

Entirely fair to have differing opinions.

But I would question that gargoyles don't fit mighty Demacia. Removing them just makes Demacia feel so one-note.

Like medieval churches the most pious places you could have still created demonic gargoyles. And Bibles were made with half donkeys and farting trumpeters in the border pictures. That stuff adds depth to a society, realism that there are multiple facets to everything and every one. Even the silly and juvenile.

In Demacia literally everything is gold and marble seems so simplistic by comparison. I'd rather see the slums of a city and how their peasant villages are structured and where the trade centers differ from a capital. But so far it's just marble as far as the eye can see.

And yeah I get that he's no longer a gargoyle now he's an expy for the Colossus of Rhodes. And don't get me wrong the 7 Wonders of the World are cool, but, gargoyles are cool as well. I'd rather have both than replace one with the other.

But again. I'm not going to play either of them so, whatever.

Noxus is dark, therefore everything that comes from Noxus must be dark, gloomy, and demonic! Demacia is light, therefore everything that comes form Demacia must be white marble and gold!

Nothing actually works like that. There's complexity, intricacy. There's a light side and a darkside. No city was ever entirely made out of marble. The faithful can still enjoy a weird demon. Every society should have a bit of faith, and a bit of blasphemy, a bit of light and a bit of dark.

And not the "Oh we look all noble but we're actually secretly not" cliche dark anti-utopia that has become just as much a cliche as utopias now. But real depth to how the world works.

Restrictions is what sets the Champion Update team apart from the New Champion team. They have to respect the look and feel of the old character, staying somewhat close.

Could you imagine an Amumu rework where he's the happiest, most popular boy mummy in Runeterra? No, because that's not the Amumu you know and love. A champion is a mix of personality and kit, and if you completely abandon one or the other you're going to get a rework that might have been better off as a new champion.

Well...if you take on an old design in order to modernize it you just should be tied to it, that´s the whole point. If you want total freedom with your creativity you just design sth new. But you don´t just design sth. totally new and put an old name on it and then expect anyone to be happy that liked the original.

Not true, at all. Warwick's rework was fantastic. He's an improved old Warwick. New Galio is nearly nothing like old Galio. It might as well be a completely different champion.

I agree with this. Many of the new champs are a bit too derpy and cocky and over-the-top, such as Camille, Kled, and Aurelion Sol. I mean, I'm fine with them, they're fun and it's kinda funny, I just think that Galio is yet another cocky champ that used to have a cool, serious theme. I mean, when I think "gargoyle" I usually think of a somber, serious protector, not one who is more obsessed with himself than with protecting.

Galio was the first champion I ever played in League and I hate to say it but his new visual design is just not Galio at all. Completely different. The character went from dark and gloomy to cocky and super cheesy. I hope Riot makes a Traditional Galio skin because his new base skin is bleh.

It all comes down to personal taste, but I think that he looks a lot cooler and more unique now rather than just being a literal gargoyle.

Honestly, I feel like if you were to look at any of those champs you list pre-rework and post-rework, you would be able to tell it is the same champion just updated. The issue I find with Galio is that if Riot never announced they were reworking him, I would think this gold and marble construction that just surfaced is a totally new champion. I don't want to see Galio wiped completely off the face of the Earth like it seems he is going to be.

They actually announced it, but i dont think that that is the problem.

The real problem is changing the personality and visuals of a champion that has already been stated... and the champions that i listed have that problem as well... except maybe Gangplank because of the lore and his Captain Skin.

The old cursed troll was removed from Runeterra alonside Arnold Schwarzesion and the Grumpy Poppy... Galio the Gargolye will follow those steps. I dont agree with changing champions like that, but is a fact.

I know what you mean and I was thinking about this today myself. I would be devastated if Ashe Caitlyn Jinx got thematically reworked to something as drastically different as the new Galio. Yes, gameplay mechanics and abilities will be changed through the years, but if Ashe lost her blue dress and cape, Cait lost her hat, or Jinx was turned into female Liam Neeson, I might not feel like I wanted to play them as much.

Yes, the new Galio looks a lot more enticing to play than the old one, but I feel bad for the few people who loved how he was before.

Warwick is a VGU done RIGHT.

His visuals are very similar and hit gameplay pattern remained almost unchanged. His new background is kinda "meh", but it's just that.

Galio? He doesn't share any characteristics except "I'm a stone statue from Demacia". No, not even a gargoyle anymore.

All three of them still have their core intact and theme. Taric is still a buff LONG haired man and support tank, Sion changed a lot but still a hulking undead frankenstein with his jaw f'ed up. Yorick is still a buff zombie, grave digger that wrecks your face and is STILL sad noble zombie.

Gailo... is a meathead superhero. But hey he is still stone! :D

Boards will be filled with response to change(even stagnation), positive and negative/criticism. Opions matter and people have them. you take or add you will effect people and they will have a say

I. Applauded the Warwick update, other than some lore change and no longer a werewolf but a chimera (only thing I hate), they at least kept the basics of him yet updated.

The new galio on the other hand...It's like riot shot the moon with Warwick, fired again for galio and completely missed the mark

As an Anivia main, I fear the day they rework her. She's a very underplayed champion and while I'd argue she's perfectly designed as is, that doesn't mean they won't rework her.

Honestly, I'd probably quit the game if they reworked her =/, so I definitely feel for Galio mains out there.

This rework is a relaunch tbh. Nothing really remains of the original galio. Aesthetics are complelely new, abilities are totally new.

It honestly scares me. I play a lot of Kayle and if they do this to her. I'd be devastated.

Galio is one of my main mids, I'm not sure how I feel about this rework. I definitely like the new look, his old look was really dated. The new abilities are wait and see. I just hope he remains a tanky mid AP mage. I liked the fact that I could blind pick him and be confident that I wouldn't be hard countered too bad.

Thank for your empathy, for me the worst part is the personality change even more then the visual. The feel and core of who a champ is is far more meaningful then the skin they are in... Take Draven, you remove that cocky, show boat personality and replace it with self conscious vicious brute-- the player would hurt from that MORE then if they made him buff- or rail thin...

Pretty much the overall sense I've gotten over the course of the last couple days is that there are 2 groups of players here:

People who don't play Galio: They all think he looks way more interesting now.

People who DO play Galio (like me): He's not even the same champion anymore, they ruined him.

I understand why people like the change, I mean it is a more "interesting" kit. But for all intents and purposes my 3rd most played champ just got deleted from the game and was replaced with something completely unrecognizable. I basically have to learn a brand new champ, they should have left Galio alone and added this thing as a new champ. They're so completely different in play style and appearance they could've easily gotten away with it. Debonair skin (the one I use the most) looks like crap too.
