Let's play a game (Yorick's Next Skin)
So... Yorick's getting a rework! Wonderful.
In the meantime, I figured we could have some fun and figure out how long we have to wait until Yorick finally gets his first skin since launch.
(Warning: saltiness levels will be well above "Solo Queue Death" here. You have been warned.)
My guess will be... November 2018.
Why? Simple...
- Lack of popularity: Riot purposefully made Yorick an unpopular champ in the eyes of many fans. From LCS casters badmouthing the champ and his players to Riot not putting him in the Free Week Rotation to a lack of any meaningful buffs in nearly 4 years, Riot's created their own "Catch-22" where they can't see the profit in making a skin for a champion they made unpopular in the first place.
- Complexity: As KateyKhaos said here and other posts, Yorick's model is as complex as Zac, Elise, and Zyra, and making skins (theoretically) would be far more difficult for the team to accomplish in a meaningful amount of time. (It took over two years and three months for the skins team to make a Zac skin along with some cheap looking chromas. Meanwhile, Zyra's gone over two years since her last skin). So, a two-year wait seems likely, given this team's lack of desire to work on skins for "difficult champions."
- Sion's wait as reasonable precedent: It is my belief that past behavior can predict future patterns. Given that it took this skins team over a year and a half to come up with a skin for Sion, a champion rework that was well received by the entire community (save those who get stomped by him!), it comes that Yorick might require a longer wait (given his model's complexity).
So... I fully expect Yorick's next skin to come in November 2018... and they'll make it a Hextech Yorick that's only available through gemstones from the loot system... because they're Riot and Riot only likes certain players.
All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces...
