While other wardens abandoned their posts to join the defense of the outlying villages, he alone remained, screaming in anguish with every arrow he loosed—for he had chosen to uphold his oaths rather than return home to protect his own family. _
Now both stories, the old and the new, can coexist within Varus. Thank you Riot!
We do listen to players when they give us feedback on stuff :-)
So many people were saying that his choice/sacrifice was what made him a resonant character. I was looking at what was published around the music video, and I couldn't see any reason why both of those stories couldn't be true... so we reinstated the part that players were missing from the old lore.
We will continue to update champion lore as their stories develop. Hopefully Varus, Yasuo, Riven, and soon Karma too, will reflect that pledge.
What does that mean? Varus' as in the ascended or Varus' as in pre-retcon human? Is he still two gay guys?
