(Progress Day Story) " (...) shit only ever flows downward."

Apart this from being the best description of Bronze 5 I could find, let's look at the next sentence: "Somewhere below in Zaun, there’s a garden that likely blooms like no other."

Could this be a chance for Zyra to have taken her roots in the city? Her story until now is a bit... well... "Oh now I got legs time to walk somewhere lol". And if you got no clue where to go and are curious about the world, Piltover and Zaun are the most likely places wanderers thend to end up in. I mean, where else would she bother to go? The deserts of Shurima? Not a fancy place for a plant. Noxus? The land with an AXE as an iconic weapon? No thanks. Demacia? A nation that would probably send someone to kill her at first sight due to her being viewn as a monster? Also no good choice. And the Freljord is just too cold.

Piltover/Zaun has a special attraction for the curious ones, mostly because all of the stories and rumors going on about it, about their fantastical technology and stuff, as well as the promise of wealth if you can work your way up. (Even tho that would be less interesting for her).

At the same time Zyra is still a plant. Plants need good soil to grow and gather power. And like this she could feed of the soil of an entire metropolis - I doubt that's a chance she would let go amiss...

I took 'garden' in that line of the story to be a metaphor for a large body of chemical waste; possible I misinterpreted it though. My question is: why would Zyra choose to occupy a filthy, polluted city like Zaun (where there is likely little to no good soil) over some other rich and habitable place?

I think you're reading that line way out of context. I'm not saying it's impossible for Zyra to be in Zaun, but I just think that line was just Tamara showing her humor.
