Do we know for sure that Volibear is now a monstrous, eldritch bear god?

I see a lot of people getting their hopes up about this particular direction for the VGU, but I haven’t personally seen any indication that this is the route they’re taking with him. In Silence for the Damned, he was described as a horrific Lovecraftian abomination — but IIRC, it was also mentioned that this was just an “avatar” rather than the actual bear spirit himself.

Coupled with the fact that Riot’s concept art for the Volibear VGU seems to be leaning more heavily towards the Thousand-Pierced Stormbear idea, I think a lot of people might be setting themselves up for disappointment here.

From what Im assuming its that Volibear's appearance in Silence of the Damned is due to his battle with Ornn and him healing himself on the corpses made his appearance a little wonky which is why he had the 12 eyes

I don't think that was his real appearance in that story. Seems like they are going with the thunder bear god to stay more in line with his original design.

From what I've seen, they aren't, and I'm damn glad that's not the case. Big <3 for armored polar bear

We can see weapons in his back in concept 2. I think its a possibility but I think it's going to be the wrong decision. They made him look so cool and weird and scary and everything just to end up giving us a polar bear with few swords in the back. It would have been an ok decision if the story "Silence of the Dammed" wasn't released. But after seeing the massive hype and positive feedback its almost a stupid idea not to do what you already set up to do...
