I still think the old Institute of War story was a lot more interesting

It was really what drew me in to reading League's lore in the first place; The last of that era was being cut out right after I joined with the Journal of Justice being retired, but I still found a lot of interest in reading the old story anyway. It gave the world a feeling of substance; of context and feeling connected to the world through the Institute holding it all together. The world just felt real. It was something that really stood out on its own, because it was a unique idea. It was fascinating, and probably the only time I ever became really invested in a game's lore was for that brief period of time where I wanted to read about what was happening here.

And that sense of realness reflected in the champions; how they interacted with each other in the little comics, how there was gossip and rumors about relationships. But what I really liked was how they interacted with you, the player; they spoke directly TO you, like you were formulating a plan together. I won't deny Riot their due credit; their character writing has become amazing and improves every year, but imagine how nice this could have been if Riot had stuck with it as their VOs became longer and higher quality. Imagine if AurelionSol was being smug with you as he flies across the map with a giant star to obliterate enemies with, instead of monologuing to himself. Or Jhin, describing all his little plans and devilish ideas as you help him set up traps for a performance.

The world just doesn't seem real to me now; the little short stories that we get every half-year or longer just don't make me interested in Runeterra's events. There hasn't been any connection across countries; there are still literary dead zones in between the major cities, where we know nothing about them post-retcon and barely anything before it. You get these little short stories that show the character in question doing something badass and beating up disposable characters, and then that's it. We have no clue of any future aspiration, and for a lot of characters all we get out of it is a new backstory. Viktor and Jayce is a plot that has gone unresolved since the beginning; ALL we've gotten, after years, is rewrites of it, with not one single extension or an advancement to a conclusion. Kindred has no hand in being able to influence anything on her own; she's guided by pure fate. What are you going to do with her?

I don't know. I'm a little peeved that I never got to experience the old lore as it was happening. I guess I'll stick to Gameplay.

So basically you miss the fact that you aren't part of the main lore anymore.

However I have to say that this part is the one that i always liked the least. It really just made the world seem rather fake, when summoners with ridiculous names and behavior are supposedly canon.

I have nothing against the champion speaking directly to the player, but only in a 4th-wall-breaking kind of way.

Also I disagree about stories not going anywhere. Sure the progress isn't very fast currently, but thats more because they are still busy rewriting certain characters, after all you can't progress a story if you don't have a beginning. However the objectives of the different champs were previously completely out of reach(after all each champ joined for a specific reason,so once they fullfill their goal there'd be no reason for them to remain in the league) and were sometimes nonsensical anyway(you have no idea what to do?Join a sport where you experience painful deaths over and over again and are sometimes forced to murder your own friends)

Nations not interacting with each other is also not entirely true.Sure interaction isn't that common(again because they are busy establishing the different places first, something that they barely did before),but Noxus still invaded Ionia, they successfully infiltrated Piltover, are responsible for releasing Xerath and Renekton and took Taliyah into their ranks before abandoning her again, meanwhile the shadow isles are pretty much at war with Bilgewater, with them attacking the place over and over again.

Idk dude this shit is like discussing the merits of Batman Vs Superman, a wildly popular/unpopular film. One stubborn side of the population talks about the merits of the movie while the other argues the obvious issues/flaws. At the end of the day the two sides will just rehash the same fundamental arguments and opinions; vocalizing back n' forth over a scenario that cant be changed or reverted.

I mean how are we meant to approach OP's argument? Do we just leave the others who share his opinion in peace to cricle jerk reminisce quietly? Or do those who disagree with OP groan because it's another brick wall argument for the Nth time?

Oh fuck this is just a shit post that I failed to pick up on isnt it? [zombie-brand-clap]

I agree when the league of legends was real it was an intresting and unique story now its a generic fantasy with no connection ro the game

I agree to an extent but I have faith they'll tie it all together somehow. If not it's not the end of the world. I love reading lore and absorbed as much as I could before the great retconning. I'm really hoping these stories lead back to the league of legends being created all over again or something.

There are multiple stories where their are progressive champion interactions and not just "You get these little short stories that show the character in question doing something badass and beating up disposable characters, and then that's it. We have no clue of any future aspiration, and for a lot of characters all we get out of it is a new backstory."

Go read Biglewater: Burning Tides and the Shadow and Fortune stories, and Shurima: Bloodline, and Taliyah's Bird and the Branch. there are a multitude of champion interactions (ally and enemy).

The old lore at the very least explained what the game was about. It wasn't the best but it made the game make some sense.

To me that is the most important reason to have lore, to allow the player to make sense of the game and give them a reason to care.

The new lore while better written is just a collection of short stories totally divorced from the game itself, making the lore feel more like I'm reading some fanfiction.

Hopefully one day they can make League make sense again.

I also liked the old lore, but as with many other multiplayer stories that try to explain the conflict it just gets more and more illogical.

We are talking about mages that supposedly control among others: a starforging dragon AurelionSol , death itself Kindred and cosmic guardian Bard . They are able to clone them (one for all, mirror matchup), revive them as many times as they want, can create living constructs out of nothing (minions, jungle creeps) and restrain even the most powerfull creatures (Chogath etc.). All this to settle conflicts in an arena instead of on a battlefield, when really they could just control the whole universe with their powers.
