You know, if they EVER get to Sona's VGU there's one thing I hope:

SaltyToplaneGoat·8/3/2017, 2:43:22 PM·5 votes·1,315 views

That they give her an personality that it toally opposite from the "submissive"/"Passive" image that has apparently been engraved in hundreds (yes, there are that many) lewd fanarts all over the internet. Heck, I doubt that there is a champ that has more porn of them existing, save for possibly Ahri. Actually those two are often paired, mostly on the "super-active" and "very-passive" dynamic.

And I always wonder... just because someone is mute, why would they be "passive"? Is it this whole disgusting "can't say no"-trope? OH COMEON. There is literally nothing stopping her from assuming aerial superiority with her levitation and beating the shit out of you with her instrument - that's if she doesn't just make you dance yourself to death, which is a rather scary power when you think about it.

I know Sona's VGU is long off, even if she also is a rather old champion, but when the time comes, please give her an actual personality - and don't leave that to the porn artists please [slayer-jinx-unamused]

I favour the idea that people in Runeterra _think _ Sona is shy and submissive when she is in fact manipulative, cunning and merciless.

Well if your point is to give Sona some characterization then hell yeah she needs it. But to have a personality the character needs lore foremost. VGU's help build up the champion but it's still a shellow character even if they look better/ more unique. Not saying Sona is shellow, just she lacks that extra depth lore would reflect onto her if she had it. And my guess, it should be sooner that she recieves updated lore than VGU.

To be honest, that's just the fanbase imprinting their own ideas onto a character while ignoring what is already there. Sona I don't think is meek or submissive, she just uses situations to her advantage imo.

The question is whether what her current personality is is worth expanding upon or remaking.

To give some examples: Ryze's personality still hasn't really changed. He's still in the whole, "Good is not nice" category of people. But Riot better expanded upon that personality, making his purpose more clear to the players and highlighting his struggles throughout Runeterra. He's been through a lot and has been betrayed by close friends, so he's understandably bitter.

Sion's old personality was more of a comic relief character despite the harsh realities of his backstory. Say what you want about league getting cartoony now, old Sion is an example of league always being cartoony. His new personality is much more serious, highlighting the dangers of raising the dead and honestly more fitting his role of being a "living" battering ram. But even though Riot could have stopped as a screaming madman, they took it a step further by giving Sion some introspection, something that old Sion never had.

Course they can choose to put more focus on other aspects of character personality that players don't expect. They did this with Poppy and Galio.

With Poppy they took away her "super serious" mode and focused more on what makes her an oddity amongst Yordles, having a strict code of order to follow. Yordles seem to be all about chaos. It's not that they don't go with the flow, it's that they do not acknowledge it most of the time. Poppy does because she likes stability and responsibilities. Making her a bit of an outcast among yordles. Teemo is similar and I hope Riot focuses on what makes him scary for yordles in the future.

Galio's new personality may seem like a complete 180, and it kinda is but it focuses on one point that old Galio had: How to deal with isolation and loneliness. In his old lore, Galio was a depressive who hid himself away upon failing his task. He willingly hid from the world as self inflicted punishment. New Galio now has no choice on when he wakes up, so he makes the most of what he can when people come to visit. But when they are gone, he does nothing and it saddens him.

Galio's lore differences could be taken as different ways people deal with depression.

So with Sona, it all depends on whether Riot thinks there is something in her current personality worth preserving or not.

"WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST FUCKING SAY ABOUT ME, YOU LITTLE TEENY BOPPER? ILL HAVE YOU KNOW I PLAY AT THE TOP TIERS IN SOLO QUEUE, AND IVE BEEN INVOLVED IN NUMEROUS SOLD OUT SHOWS FOR PENTAKILL, AND I HAVE OVER 300 CONFIRMED ASSISTS. I AM TRAINED IN ETWAHL WARFARE AND IM THE TOP SUPPORT IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS. YOU ARE NOTHING TO ME BUT JUST ANOTHER ASSIST"

Sona quote.

Her whole champion concept is that of an aura-based support. That's inherently going to lead to a passive disposition. IMO it would feel pretty strange to have a champion aggressively distributing auras among their team. Her being mute is really irrelevant to this.

First off, absolutely no one has any control over what fanart people make, and that holds true for artists drawing Sona pornography. They will make what they want to make. Second, "gentle" and "calm"--words I would use to describe Sona--by no means indicates she is submissive. As much as I love many of them, I tire of the fireball, over-the-top Champion personalities, and wish we had some more reserved Champions. Sona is one of the few more reserved Champions we have, and that's part of why I like her.

There's an old lore piece that's probably not canon anymore (it's Sona's old League Judgement) that I think indicates her true personality much better. It's a short piece, and it explores her unique advantages as a mute, expresses her frustration at things she can't do, and eventually shows her acceptance, and even her stronger assertion that she has better ways of communicating than just words. Just because she's mute doesn't mean she's not in control.

Here's Sona's old League Judgement for those interested in reading it. It's not fantastic, but it serves as a good indication for Sona's true personality, including both her calm assertiveness and quiet determination.

K so I thought long and hard about what I think on this.

There are a lot of women in league, and the majority of them take absolutely no shit from anyone. Illaoi, vayne, Diana, Fortune, Leona, xayah, Akali, sejuani, lissandra, Cassiopeia, Katarina, riven, Camille, fiora, irelia, kalista, Evelynn, Elise, Kayle, Morgana, shyvana, Caitlyn, nidalee, Annie, Sivir, Vi, zyra and rek'sai are all examples of women what would gut you where you stand if you ever crossed them. The majority of them are incredibly aggressive, or deadpan serious.

The light side of the spectrum is much smaller. Nami, Janna, Ashe, anivia, tristana taliyah, lux, Lulu, karma, and soraka. Ahri is about as neutral as you can get.

Now we have Sona. All we know right now is she was an orphan, adopted by a royal family in Demacia, and she has a magical instrument that is drawn to get even if you separate the two. She is also mute. None of this really explains any form of personality. Let's move on.

Her quotes: she is very calm throughout the game, never makes a threat or sounds angry or manipulative like many other champions. She is easygoing, peaceful, and encouraging.

Her spell names: they are also very benevolent: perseverance: to work hard, she takes away your pain and encourages be you to keep pushing forwards. hymn of valor:. A hymn is a religious praise or poem, and valor is courage or bravery. Her hymn encourages you to be brave in the face of danger and rewards you for it. Song of celerity, celerity is swiftness or speed, and it is a very euphonious word. She encourages you to keep moving towards your goals with her song. Finally the crescendo. You see it as forcing people to dance to death. I see it as overwhelming someone with such happiness, they dance even within the thick of battle. She exudes The goodness of music. A way to tie hearts together.

Her muteness: you're right, just because someone is mute, doesn't make them passive, nor do I feel that "passive" is a very good description for any champion. It seems as though you're only trying to describe their antics in bed. I do, however believe that Sona is definitely not malicious or aggressive. I think she had seen a lot of bad in her life, and has been unable to communicate it or help others because of her muteness. I feel that, at the point we see her now, she had accepted that no one will hear her speak and instead tries her hardest to support people in hardship through her music.

I think Sona and Janna are similarly benevolent champions, and that Sona has a good heart. She's playful, given her joke, and admonishing when necessary given her taunt, but I really don't find her to be aggressive, violent, or manipulative for her own ends.

And I'm very pleased by that. Not every character in league has to be a kick-ass bloodthirsty warrior, or a manipulative schemer, sometimes you can be someone's champion by supporting them the best way you know how, in Sona's case, her music. Ivern is proof that a genuine good heart can make someone a champion, and I feel like Sona embodies this as well.

She's a girl, of course fanartists are gonna draw her submissive on their porn, wtf do you expect. And that's far from being exclusive to Sona, lol. Sorry not everything caters to your interests or fetishes.

Besides, passive people do exist, it's not because you don't like female characters who aren't strong independent womyn that no character should ever be like that. That's called diversity.

LOL, just LOL. I don't really know howSona can be updated, certainly not the level of Urgot or Galio , but there can be someway to make her more "modern". On that note we can agree. I also think it would be best to take away the mute personality, seeing as, for the moment, summoners are no longer in the lore. So who is it that can read her mind? Also, again, thnx for the laughs about Sona porn. You made my day/night with that*[slayer-jinx-wink]* .
