Bard video question...?

So in the video bard steals the stone and is like "nope this is why you humans can have nice things smfh"

but my question here is, wasnt the old man TRYING TO SAVE THE STONE just like bard? He was taking it to the top of the mountain? by why else would he do that if not to send it to the heavens like bard did?

he said "We'll die without it" but wasnt he trying to save the stone before his own people...?

Then he uses it and bard goes "sigh humans? again? I just want to play my flute with this cute little meeps"

Then sprints in like "outa my way n00bs"" swipes the stone like "nope mine"

then slows down like "Im a beautiful ballerina dancer and these meeps are just so cute"

then places the stone on the thing and is like "YO MEEPS YOU READY FOR A CELESTIAL PARTY??????" and they all cheer

I assume that by doing that he saved the people. The old man was trying to do the same thing so that's probably what the old man wanted Bard to do when he took it.

There are two major theories around this, and this is one of them. The other thought was that the shrine would have acted as an amplifier, allowing them to power up the stone's energy to do more damage. This is why Bard took away the shrines as well as the sphere.
