There is a "The Crystal Scar WIP" map option added to the game [PBE]. Unsure what it is for exactly but these are generally used by devs to test some sort of changes.
Could this mean The Crystal Scar is getting an update? We know there's a Shuriman event/lore update coming sometime soon, so it seems only fitting!
See this could mean anything, including nothing at all, so I'll be the first to say don't look at this as an official confirmation of a visual update or Shurima event on the Crystal Scar or whatever. Keep your expectations low!

Ok Now that that's out of the way, I'm SO ON BOARD for a Crystal Scar VU to make it the crystal desert den thing that it is in the lore now. I want that Brackern lore! This'd be a great means of exploring Skarner's place in Shuriman history, would help explain what happened to the Brackern in the new lore, and could tie in with Nasus, Renekton, and potentially other Ascended of the era.
Also maybe they could bring back Ascension! BHJCBASHJBCAS

But OMG I so want a Crystal Scar VU and all that Shurima/Brackern lore.
There are four possible thematic choices for the Crystal Scar VU. Shurima, Mount Targon, Brackern, and Ionia (all of which, besides Freljord in late summer, were mentioned to be locations that will get some lore expansion this year).
I wouldn't mind a visual update to the Crystal Scar. Not one bit. If Riot replaced the Blind Pick and Draft queues with a single Blind Draft I would be overjoyed.
Also please give me Champion Mastery on Crystal Scar.
I wish they just retcon'd the Crystal Scar into Shurima.
