Rhaast having tsundere style relationship with Kayn would just make him less evil. ''Baka! It is not like I like you or something...''.
Kayn doesn't give a fuck about Rhaast, he just wants to have power. He would prefer Rhaast dead than having a potential murderer of him.
Also, Riot already has confirmed that one of them is going to die in the future.

Jet Sett6 votesI can see Rhaast winning. Kayn is certainly impressive with his mental fortitude and martial prowess, but Rhaast is an immortal being that's existed far longer than most Runeterrans, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's met other people of Kayn's caliber before.

If Rhaast wins - he'll try to team up with Aatrox and the other remaining darkin so that they can continue to from where they left off on their genocidal apocalypse event. And it'll take place/start in Noxus. Not really something that we need in the lore IMO, especially when apocalyptic invasions are the Void's gig. And chances are he and the other Darkin will be stopped or imprisoned again, eventually.
If Kayn wins - we get more information about his past as a Noxian child soldier, more information about the Order of Shadows and how they function, some more information and development on his relationship with Zed, the possibilities of him becoming the next clan leader, explanations for him hunting down Ashe or why he's venturing into the Freljord to begin with and etc etc.

But that's what I'm saying.
They both want so much to best the other, but they also seem so much alike that if (impossibly) they combined their strengths, they would both be a force to be reckoned with.
I'm not saying that they'd ever get along, but I'm hard pressed to believe that neither of them is benefiting from the other.

What Kayn gets from Rhaast is relentless power, what Rhaast gains from Kayn is a body to feed him. Each time Kayn gets a bit more of power, Rhaast fuels his bloodlust so that he can break his chains.
In the end (it doesn't even matter), one will consume the other and achieve their objective. It's a twisted symbiotic relationship where one knows that cannot abandon the other and thus they focus on gaining as much power as possible.

Chembaron Yamada9 votesThey definitely feel like buddies if you listen to them in the game. Accepting that just one of them will be able to exist in the end and they have to kill each other to survive, but in a different world without that rule, they would definitely be friends.
Gives the whole theme a bittersweet taste. They seem to enjoy themselves so much when they are together. I would have liked if they had introduced some small hints that the surviving one is missing the other who used to be at his side, feeling lonely.

Not gonna lie, I was super bummed out when I learned that there's no mention of the other after you morph.
Also, missed opportunity in the lore to have Rhaast trap Kayn in the scythe. That woulda been kinda funny, even if it makes no sense.

I doubt they would not eventually kill each other. Kha is a void being which means he is driven by a singke minded goal. Kha would most definitely try and consume rengar. Rengar on the other hand would still kill kha but at the most would feel that no other hunt would be quite as good.

Both want to surpass their superior, both extremely good at what they do and they embrace that fact and both of them thinks the other Is just a bump in their path actualizing their goal. The issue is that because they are so very similar but have different plans they cannot coexist, they both seek to dominate eachother and bend the other to their will. Rhaast absolutely hates kayn and sees him as nothing more tham a frail mortal who worries too much about who he is killing and wastes his skill on using them to further his plans. Kayn sees rhaast as an extremely arrogant tool that Kayn knows he can master for at the end of the day rhasst is just a weapon like everyother weapon kayn has mastered. Neither of them will be able to coexist because they desire such different plans so strongly and believe themselves to be the true master while viewing the other as something in their way.

Or maybe the Bow was actually already defeated by Varus, and his Darkin pants are actually a manifestation of his "final form".

If Varus won he wouldn't have those pants as he'd be the one controlling the Darkin. My theory (and one that I'm sure was around for a long time) is that his necklace is stopping or heavily impeding Darkin's influence on Varus and possibly also blocking or diminishing any form of communication which gives the false sense of Darkin being dormant.
Or maybe it's just because Riot decided last month that the Bow would be a Darkin.
I'm sure they haven't decided that before Varus' release.
Fefnil1 votesWell, we still don't know exactly what defeating the Darkin gives. Sure, it gives the host all of the Darkin's power, but in what form? Kayn becomes a Shadow Assassin, but it's because he fuses the power of Rhaast with the power of the Shadows that he owns. But Varus? In his current lore, he was just an archer. The best archer in Runeterra, but still just an archer. That's why I think, if the theory is right, he could just have taken some Darkin features, since he didn't have a base power to enhance. Now, after the retcon Varus's appearance could be completely different, so it's all fluff. On the other hand, the necklace theory is actually a good, since it looks like an important item for him. Of course, it could just be a plain memento from his home, but still. But anyway, until a VU happens, there's no reason to indulge too much. There's so little now, old lore didn't include the Darkin twist (as far as we know), so we pretty much have nothing about him.

Now, all of that is basically meaningless anyway because the Narrative has no qualms about, for example, making Leona a nazi and Diana an angsty teenager.

I think the tvtropes analysis is pretty accurate: they're both so confident that they'll succeed that they don't really hate each other so much as view the other as a temporary nuisance.
