Nah, It is not always bunnies, flowers and rainbows among paradise that shine at their purest form. Rhaast is undeniably evil, he sees nothing but ''crush and burn''. Rhaast having tsundere style relationship with Kayn would just make him less evil. ''Baka! It is not like I like you or something...''.
Kayn doesn't give a fuck about Rhaast, he just wants to have power. He would prefer Rhaast dead than having a potential murderer of him.
Also, Riot already has confirmed that one of them is going to die in the future.

This is probably the best expression of their relationship.
I always thought that each of them was confident that they would overpower the other. The banter they have with each other in the meantime is a testament to that confidence.
They definitely feel like buddies if you listen to them in the game. Accepting that just one of them will be able to exist in the end and they have to kill each other to survive, but in a different world without that rule, they would definitely be friends.
Gives the whole theme a bittersweet taste. They seem to enjoy themselves so much when they are together. I would have liked if they had introduced some small hints that the surviving one is missing the other who used to be at his side, feeling lonely.
It's the feel where you just kind of don't want either to die because both are empty shells without the other. Kayn wants power, Rhaast wants destruction. They just don't feel complete alone.

They're most certainly not going down that path. Kayn is using Rhaast, and Rhaast wants to devour Kayn. And they both know it. Give either of them half a chance, and they'd tear away the other if they could. Necessity is all that binds them together.
Actually, of the three Darkin, we have Aatrox who already took possession of his host, Rhaast that's fighting with/against Kayn, and the Darkin Bow that's still the only one sleeping (until a likely Varus VU where we get to know who the Darkin now). So, as far as we now, the Bow is the one who's "happy" to share his power and maybe decided to live together within Varus, instead of controlling him. Or maybe the Bow was actually already defeated by Varus, and his Darkin pants are actually a manifestation of his "final form".
Or maybe it's just because Riot decided last month that the Bow would be a Darkin.

The thing is that they are basically the same person personality wise. Both want to surpass their superior, both extremely good at what they do and they embrace that fact and both of them thinks the other Is just a bump in their path actualizing their goal. The issue is that because they are so very similar but have different plans they cannot coexist, they both seek to dominate eachother and bend the other to their will. Rhaast absolutely hates kayn and sees him as nothing more tham a frail mortal who worries too much about who he is killing and wastes his skill on using them to further his plans. Kayn sees rhaast as an extremely arrogant tool that Kayn knows he can master for at the end of the day rhasst is just a weapon like everyother weapon kayn has mastered. Neither of them will be able to coexist because they desire such different plans so strongly and believe themselves to be the true master while viewing the other as something in their way.
They have very similar personalities. I experienced once during play that they both shouted "Yes!" Right after each other, clearly aligned in their actions.
As such, i cant picture them coexisting. Too much alike.

I think the tvtropes analysis is pretty accurate: they're both so confident that they'll succeed that they don't really hate each other so much as view the other as a temporary nuisance.
They have banter, as any two people who are stuck together would. It helps they have a similarly dark sense of humor. That said, they pretty definitively don't like each other.
