It actually seems like it was edited if not repainted from scratch (likely to make it try not to resemble Darius or something), but yeah, it's pretty weird that something like this happened. I'm seriously confused, thinking why they'd even do that.

Not to mention a darius-esque looking guy on a game that deals with modern warfare... it's so out of place. If this were some game other than CoD that was based on older times I would probably look past this, but it's CoD modern warfare remastered...

I mean to be fair artists take inspiration from other sources. It is kinda core. So maybe the artist who did this was a LoL fan, and they are like "Huh, I got to make a big axe wielding guy, do I know any characters like that I can use as inspiration?"

So of course they look at Darius for a bit of reference and pull up some fan art for different angles and what have you (As an artist for fun I do this myself quite frequently and I know many artists trying to get into the industry who do this too. It is pretty standard.) They see a cool piece of fan art in a pose they like and are all "Ima use that pose because it is quite fitting for a big axe wielding guy." then they draw their character in the same pose and lo and behold, they look similar.

Sure the artist could have been more original about it, but it isn't that unusual because artists use references whenever possible. As someone in the whole game design industry area I know a plenty of game designers who go "Yeah this is our character, when designing him we hashed out his abilities throughout the game then stole X person's pants because they were fitting, recoloured Y person's shirt because I love that game, then added in a short jacket, a hat, and some miscellaneous belts strapped around his body to hold his different tools."

Part of being an artist/game designer is recognizing what others did well and building off of that. It is very hard to be completely original without having your creations be ridiculous looking. Stealing elements of characters is part of the industry and we basically all accept that because we all do it. I mean come on, have you ever tried to make every villager look completely unique from every other game? Oh god the horror.

TLDR: Artists use other sources for inspiration when drawing characters: This guy just wasn't very good at adding in other touches to make them unique.

they want to leech of Lol's fame and too desperate to realise they are a gonna get sued for it, they should have applied for a job for editing or maybe they are salty rejects that failed and wanted payback.

To be fair, "bloody armored warrior with axe and red cape" isn't a very unique idea. A lot of the older champions are pretty generic fantasy heroes/creatures.

If I saw something resembling a newer release, like Kled, I would be more suspicious. Eyes squint

I'm sorry but that's quite a bit too similar to me. Even the way they hold their similar axes is exactly the same (and that's a kind of awkward way to hold an axe TBH)

The resemblance is uncanny. Maybe CoD artists are avid appreciators of LoL fanart!

But here's some other art of a guy holding his axe in the same way (though at a different angle).

Which CoD game is this btw? Just so many of them.

He's not holding his axe the same way. The blade is facing downwards. In the darius picture, he's holding his axe sideways (and so is the cod calling card guy).

This is modern warfare remastered, so it's very out of place.

You're right, what's that art doing in MW? Couldn't they use someone like Caitlyn, who actually has a gun? "Modern Warfare" and the bringing in axes and other nonsense.

What's calling card? I don't play, I'm just curious.

The mount/mech mechanic with DVA is pretty similar to Kled. From my understanding atleast.

Both are much tankier with their mount/mech, both have to fight for them back, and both lose their mounts upon taking too much damage.

Except one is a Violent Yordle who verbally insults his possibly mentally-handicapped lizard. While the other is a former Korean Starcraft player who now uses a giant goliath to wreck havoc on the fields of justice, or whatever they call the battle grounds on Overwatch.

And the fact that Kled was released after D.va..

Kled was released in August of 2016. Overwatch was released in May of 2016. The feasibility of Riot putting Kled together in 3 months with the intent to duplicate D.Va's playstyle is astronomically impossible. Champions take at least 6 month to produce, meaning that Kled was already well in production once Overwatch dropped.

Don't forget D. Va is op and kled isn't.

The person's saying D.va copied off Kled.

But Kled was released after D.va

Dunno. You sorta ignored how I was only talking about the mount/mech mechanic and not the characters themselves.

Fondling Gems1 votes

It isn't really that unique when you break the mechanic down though is it? At it's core it is a gnar passive that stays until taking X amount of damage rather than time. You gain health, abilities, other stat changes, etc. All by hitting things in combat. So in that sense it has been around for quite a while. Kled's just utilizes a mount as his visual and the gains/losses are much more extreme (such as the health pool change.)

Arakadia1 votes

I haven't really seen features in game where a character changes by entering and staying in combat. Not where its short term and rapid.

Additionally, you had to write out a mini paragraph AND use gnar passive (a term which explains a detailed mechanic). The mount/mech sure isn't anything revolutionary, but its definitely something different imho.

Fondling Gems1 votes

Except I was using Gnar mechanic as an example of how this mechanic has been around for quite a while now. The only difference is in how it is visually portrayed.

My mini paragraph was going through and explaining the similarities and differences. Also compared to how much I normally write in response to things like these it was very short as I tend to be long winded when discussing things as my experiences on the boards have taught me to be as thorough as possible when explaining my point.

To cover some points you made Kled ult isn't short term. In fact it is permanent until he takes enough damage.

You imply that there is copying going on between Diva and Kled then ignore when I provide an example of how it isn't fundamentally different than Gnar's passive just because I went into detail? I fail to understand how your brain is processing the logic given to it. You even say you haven't seen a character who changes by entering and staying in combat.

Let me name 2 champions who both apply part of that. Gnar: Changes in combat. Shyvana: Can change out of combat but retains her dragon form by attacking people, just like how Kled gets his mount/other form by attacking people.

There aren't any revolutionary ideas going around here, it is just two of the many ideas happened to be released around the same time and both have to do with a character getting a mode of transportation.

"Bloody warrior with axe and red cape" is not where the similarities end though. The composition and poses of the two subjects are literally exactly the same. So is the setting/background. There's no denying one must have stolen from or "been inspired" by the other.

Well....I mean there are a lot of LOL skins that are so close to something else I sometimes wonder if they actually got permission to use that. Every game does it.
