Why not bash Vi last year for getting 2 skins in the same year - Warring Kingdom and PROJECT - or Jhin - Blood Moon and PROJECT, or hell, why is no one bashing Twisted Fate, who, like Riven, ALSO got a skin last year - Blood Moon. Twisted Fate also has 10 skins already (compared to Riven's 7), so why is no one up in arms about him? Why is Riven so hated here?
Probably because she got a high quality legendary about 11 months ago. Then again, Riot does tend to make frequent high quality skins for popular champions.
Because the concept of the Riven skin is wrong it like out of her theme
Because Twisted Fate is from the pre-beta days and Riven is not. Also Fate's pickrate is absurdly low and he's not a polarizing champion with the world's second ( 
)most awful fanbase.
People complained about Vi, they complained about Yi, they compained about Rakan and Xayah getting skins before other older champs that had none. They compained when the Sacred Sword teaser ended up being Janna. It's what we do because certain champs don't get skins.
The boards are full of Yasuo Mains, Yasuo hates Riven, therefor, the boards hate Riven!
(nah tho it's probs cuz TF is easier to forget to most people, i for instance, had No Idea he had so many skins, the heck??)

IMO, the skin just, well at least the splash just isn't appealing, I'd even say its ugly. Still, happy Shen got a skin even though I'm still not buying anything from Riot.
I'm certain it has alot more to do with Older/unpopular champions. Not getting skins. And popular champions getting an overabundance.
