What happened to Amoline?

In Annie's lore, her mother goes out to get water for her ailing child and then vanishes. Annie wakes up healthy the next morning. What happened to the Noxian witch? We get no information in the slightest on her disappearance, or even who she really is, which leaves us with a very ... fillable ... hole in the lore should a future champion come along...
