he has a line that says "i strike from the shadows". i think he shares that line with zed and vayne, so i assume his Q is low level shadow manipulation the same way vaynes invis is.

I think it's to say that he's a member of Zed's shadow order.
Although, he and Zed both have magic powers that have to do with shadows. The order, therefore, probably has to do with darkness cast by light upon an object.

Shadow Assasin is a title of the Order of Shadows.

But champs like eve and vayne still maniuplates shadow. seems pretty arrogant to give them that title when a champ like eve has more mastery over it. even in lore eve is considered the best assassin on the known continent, rivaled only by the unknown "grey lady" who may or may not be a future champ who also may or may not manipulate shadows.
but i havent read zeds new lore. i thought shadow assassin was something new that came with kayne, is it stated in zeds lore that that title is exclusive to his order?
