. I think it'd be really cool if it became Irelia's weapon post-update, kind of like Gargoyle Stoneplate became Galio's shortly after his VGU -- especially since it's such a core item on her.

I think it's more likely they update the item icon to match Irelia's new weapon, rather than giving Irelia the current item.
Nice catch, I could imagine that to become a thing. Sometimes, the personal weapons and armor of champs become items.

irelia will probably be able to put her blades in new places when she throws them, also be able to pick them back up with q. if she doesn't pick them up they disappear and go on a 40 second recharge time. this would make her a legit blade dancer. the blade pick up with q would reset the cd as well as refund mana
More importantly will she still be hybrid or will she get some shitty health scaling forceing her into an off tank role with shitty delayed cc
Really hard to say. TF works on irelia because of the reset her Q gets and because of her barrage ult. In the past I've seen gameplay devs talk about how her ult is too bursty, so I expect her to lose the interaction.
Since she uses magic, it would be cool to have AP ratios on her
I think Swain got something like this too, I think it is just a first quick draw that should show the direction, ofc she will still use blades, so using a Trinity icon that is some kind of balance between diffrent weapons ( maybe hyprid) is a good idea.
