@Writing Team, can Ao Shen live on in lore?

http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/suggestion/images/e/ea/Ao_ShinSquare.png/revision/latest?cb=20151207201313 I mean, I can't see why not. He could be regulated to an Ionian legend, maybe mentioned once or twice in some stories, but away from the lime light. I think it's the least that can be done for such an awesome concept that we've anticipated for two years, even if he won't appear in the game (in his original iteration, anyway). Please?

Agreed. Can't see why not. After all, MissFortune First mate won't be made into a champion.

Two ways I see this can work:

  • His lore is unchanged - i.e. he's not retconed. He remains an ancestral spirit of Ionia. He's seen in Spirit Guard Udyr's lore, and maybe mentioned again at some point (perhaps as part of a future Lunar Revel thing).
  • His lore is deeply tied into Aurelion.
  • Similar to concept of Dragon Flights / Clans / Tribes in many mythos or the many Winds in Chinese Mythology, it's possible that Ao Shin and Aurelion could be two characters in the same Pantheon (even if only one of them is a playable character).
  • Alternatively, the two could be exactly the same character - similar to how Kindred has many names (Ao Shin could just be the Ionian name). In that vain they could also represent different (even contradictory) things in different cultures - i.e. it can mean "luck" in Ionia and something completely unrelated in Aurelion's primary culture (Wolf is the "good death" in Freljord culture, whereas Wolf is generally considered the "bad death" in other cultures).

I think I'd prefer the former since it leaves room for him to be potentially picked up again in the future; whereas the latter option would perhaps create too much overlap if two near-identical (or identical) characters both existed.

We can't even get lore for champions that are already in the game

I'd say it depends on how Aurelion will turn out.

If Aurelion turns out to be quite similar to Ao shin in terms of body structure,I could see them doing this. However if Aurelion turns out to be rather different(so not a chinese dragon),then I think they wouldn't do that, because it would create the demand for a chinese dragon just all over again.

I honestly don't like Ao's name only beause it reminds me of Lee Sin and Shen.

Or just the name of this dragon Champ's release skin. Or, like others have suggested, Definitely not Ao Shin skin.

I don't believe Riot said anything about them never releasing Ao Shin in the future.

Before you get triggered! and post the article. I did read it, Riot said they were having difficulty with an eastern dragon and said they would have released him if they could get a kit that wasn't random and lore that made sense. That aside they didn't say anything about not releasing him ever.

They said they were going to release a "New Dragon Champion" that is not Ao Shin and that is it.

It could be very well that we see Ao Shin later on if the New Dragon Champion does well and if they could get a compelling kit made for Ao Shin to be worth the time it would take to invest in fixing the movement of a serpentine dragon.

you guys seem to not comprehend that the new dragon champ IS Ao shin just "Evolved" as the article said hes the same core champion, with the same core concept, just a name change, a different kit and maybe he will look slightly different. Aurelion Sol= ao shin

Agreed

Why wait for the story team?

Why can't we write it ourselves?

Even if lore is unofficial, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. >:)

Does he have any lore?

Sharjo2/19/2016, 4:32:27 AM1 votes

I feel like it'll depend on whether they actually had substantial lore built up for Ao Shin. If not then I feel like there are other ways to commemorate him, such as a skin for Sol when he comes around.

We need more dragons in the Lore, and i mean, Dragons with proper names, not "dragon shark" or "krakenwyvern"

Aurelion will be the second one after Ebonmaw, the hipster dragon of Zaun.
