Revisiting Bios - Piltover

I was just reading some random stories and bios on Universe--some I'm revisiting, some I may have missed--and I thought it might be fun to voice my thoughts and start a discussion. So here are my (relatively) short thoughts on a few Piltover Champions. I'd love to see other opinions so feel free to say what you feel about each Champ/story, too.

Caitlyn I didn't realize this but they changed her parents to be not dead. I like how she has to find her parents and uses her hunting skills along with her knowledge of Piltover, but it just feels less impactful that they both live. Back when her father died, she had a clear reason to become more hardened and understandable motivations. Its not that her motivations are bad now, it just feels weaker. C didn't kill anyone. She's still the hellbent, straightnosed cop we know and love, but her hardened demeanor is less justified.

Camille Speaking of C, I remember really liking Camille's backstory and upon rereading its just as good as I remember. She's both tragic and cruel, her story is emotional and relatable, but also gives us some political intrigue that many of us crave. Its a good read. Also, what the heck is a cellovinna?

Vi Another I didn't remember that they changed. They now have a lot more insight into Vi's life before becoming the Piltover Enforcer, and you can definitely tell how she'd become a cop who "knows her way around the hood" so to speak. That said, there's now basically nothing about how she joined the force or why. It's a myssssstery! Which is really annoying because I think Cait and Vi playing off of each other would make for a great story. She's just a gang leader then next paragraph "nobody knows how she came to work with the police" oooo intriguing isn't it? Yeah, its not bad, but really needs a follow up story.

Orianna Orianna's bio is less about her father now and more about her, which is good. But her father is still included and the element of his "lost daughter" is still there. She also still has themes of "I am not quite human", which I think captures the heart (no pun intended) of old Orianna bios. She's another tragic character, similar but distinct from Camille.

Jinx I know, not really a Piltover character, but I also read her bio and she fits with Vi and Cait. I pretty much remembered all of her bio, nothing much to add as far as new thoughts. Jinx is and always has been a wild card of a character, which suits her theme. I still think its strange that they went all YuGiOh-send-them-to-the-Shadow-Realm-but-they're-unharmed with her; "Due to the late hour, no one was hurt" and things like that...like why? She's dealing with massive explosions, people are bound to get HURT at least. This is one change that I just don't understand. I guess they want her to be potentially redeemable so don't want her go on a killing spree, but still. Hurt some people, makes no sense that she's somehow "harmless" other than her destruction of property.

Overall, we desperately need a continuation of the Vi & Cait vs Jinx storyline. I am really surprised we haven't gotten any progress on that front. I need some buddy cop moments, damn it!

I also read Progress Day, which is quite a fun, world building read. Not a great deal of action but I think we need more of that to flesh out the world and again, get some of those juicy politics and intrigue.

I've been rereading quite a few of my favorites, so I might post another thread like this later on, based on a different area of lore.

Im very disappointed by how underrepresented the region is. Its lore is SO cool but its the most neglected region alongside bandle city. We havent had any major piltover lore since 2016

Jinx isn't about killing and on the surface a fairly lighthearted character so it does kinda make sense. Dying isn't fun, jinx is all about fun. Killing innocent civilians is also usually considered an evil act, she's not supposed to be an evil character. explosions are pretty exciting however.

as for a continuation of her story, don't bet on it. tsundere waifu starguardian jinx sells better so she's been repurposed for that pretty much.

anyway, if we're lucky we might get some zaun/piltover lore in a few years when ppl finally burn out on noxus/ionia/shurima.

My interpretation of Jinx's bio is that she herself doesn't think too much on how her actions harm others, its a side effect of her psychosis. After all, she was very willing to blow up a police station full of people before Ziggs stopped her.

to note on Jinx, I believe it was stated that Jinx does not go with the intention to kill. she goes with the intention for mayhem that often ends with a LOT of death

My thoughts about these:

Caitlyn I think changing her lore that her parents are not dead was definitely the right call, because of the introduction of Camille. I get the feeling that many people think that Camille is cruel (some call her even evil), but I don't share this thought. I doubt that Camille is willing to kill innocent people just to reach a simple goal. Since it is pretty much confirmed that Camille is, in fact, C, it is better to keep Camille's morale in tact by makng her not responsible for her parents death.

Also her general vibes in the lore are pretty cool now. She feels more intelligent, she got some personality in her story going.

Camille Her story is great. It is about sacrifice. This woman gave her own body and her love away to serve the family and protect the city. And she is so dedicated to fulfill this purpose that she doesn't stop when she finds out about her own brother, either.

I don't think she is cruel, she is responsible. She does what she has to to protect the balance of the city, but avoids harming innocent people.

Vi I agree, follow up is definitely needed here. We have to get a story showing us how she met Caitlyn. And the lack of interaction between these 2 in the lore is horrible! We don't have a story featuring both, Vi and Caitlyn. Just one of them at the same time always. Why? They are supposed to be Piltover's Finest, that great team in the Piltover Police Department. We need a story showing both in action and how they interact with each other. How Vi is mocking Cait all the time. How Cait tries to speak some sense into her thick skull.

Orianna Love her new background. Transhumanism has always been an interesting topic for me and the take with Orianna, who starts to struggle if she can still consider herself human, is awesome. Reminds me alot of the Ghost in the Shell problematic and I am an absolute sucker for that stuff.

Personally, I would enjoy an encounter with Blitzcrank in the lore. They are mirrors for each other. Orianna was a human, replacing her body with hextech and becoming more like a robot. Blitzcrank was built as a robot and started to develope conciousness. A deep conversation between these 2 could be fascinating.

Jinx Seems they changed her personality because of player perception. If you listen to her quotes in the game, it is clear that she was supposed to like killing people randomly. She was supposed to be a complete psychopath. But players liked to see her more as a neutral character, not actively seeking to harm people, and they went along with it since Jinx is so popular.

There is still the big mystery going on with her past. There has to be something that made her snap. And Warwick recognises her from some event in his past. I hope we will get an answer for these questions, soon.

If you are interested, I made a thread with a theory for Jinx' past. The Wolf and the Lunatic

pretty sure the darkin shit ain't 3 years old yet, nor is the icathia stuff. which is all either shurima lore or related to shurima. all the ascended are pretty much just aspects crap to link even more stuff to space alien targon isn't that old either.

Jinx isn't really being framed as a sociopath, but more of an outsider with some possible abandonment issues. Killing people in cold blood isn't her thing.

With the "revisiting" they are doing I think they are going to push back the Noxus/Piltover plotline just to make space for Piltover out of sudden killing whole cities in the jungle. For Progress!
