aatrox and rhaast look demon like with very prominant red and dark colors. Varus on the other hand, if we are going by the music video, looks VERY human with white and purple colors. If he hates humans so much why does he look so human? and im not talking about the body he took after the fusion, im talking about what he looked like during and before his imprisonment.

seems like this might be the best reason. does seem pretty forced. i have no idea why they are avoiding void content/lore so hard. purple is a void thing after all.

To be fair the original corruption was never defined as being Void based, but yeah it's trying to fit a square peg into a round hole

It was left largely undefined. Varus' look certainly has a void-y theme to it, though. Black and purple and weird corruption is sorta the Void's whole thing.
I would honestly love to hear Riot's reason for making Varus' a Darkin instead of having the thing in the pit be some kind of Void symbiot. From the vid they released, it sounds like they were originally planning on going the Void route with him, but changed their minds.

It would have been better if he just had the same kind of relationship that 
and rhaast have, but instead make it to where the corruption is stronger and has nearly overtaken him. Varus should be the human and the darkin another name. the two archers are irrelevant even if it did make for a nice music video. Also as far as i know 
is the only darkin that was never sealed away if we are go to off his current lore, so his form should be staple of what all darkin are to look like. that strengthen when Rhaast was revealed, but now we have varus who looks the most human despite loathing them so much... he even HATES the "flesh" form has taken, even the voice makes him cringe he hates it so much, yet he looks more human in his natural form than his corrupted form... it just kind of boggles my mind.
as for the darkin race as a whole, i have no idea what they are doing. Originally aatrox had no intention of destroying the world, he just wanted to fight and even lead an army of HUMANS to victory in one fight. "it matters not who you fight, it only matters that you fight". this lead me to believe that the darkin race simply loved fighting and war and fought just for the hell of it, kind of like the sayians from DBZ. its possible tho that only varus has this vendetta against the humans and the other 3 could care less, but i find that hard to believe.

Hupsis4 votesMy theory is that Darkin appear obsidian only after they completely seal away the consciousness of the original host. In Varus' case the Darkin is still fighting over control with the two merged hosts.
Why do Darkin take an obsidian form? Well I can only guess the Darkin use some kind of blood magic to transform the human body (or their host) to a more resilient version. That would explain why Varus' "spirit" looks so different from the typical looks of a Darkin. Maybe Darkin are originally more humane than we think.

Quepha1 votesEven still, Varus is a very attractive looking character so to have that look make sense they had to make Darkin-Varus have attributes people can see in Varus's old character model.
If they were building a character for this Archer-Darkin character from the ground up instead of using Varus as a base, they would have undoubtedly made the Darkin's "soul" look far less human and far more demonic to sync up with what we've seen of the Darkin so far, and then have some of those attributes show up in the character model's head (i.e. the 'soul' could have dramatic goat horns that would appear on the merged form's head at a smaller size).

KuroCaliber3 votesA rioter once said something about this, I'll edit this when I find the link, but apparently when they possess human bodies, they kinda rot over the years. and that what we see is how the body holds up over that time. note how the body slowly corrupts in Kayn's case, but only the arm, and the in game depction of rhaast is a full takeover at a time we don't know yet. It could 100 years past a takeover. Varus's body was a created form, so I think it's actually closer to the Darkin's true form than Aatrox or Rhaast.

I guess that that is the original form of the Darkin race, and what we see in game is the shape that the Darkins take when they corrupt a human.

Daddy Braum2 votesi think i has something to do with the one guy (i cant remember the names from the stories) making a deal to save the other guy in kayns story rhaast will fully corrupt kayn taking control of his body and making it look more demonic where as in the varus comic you watch the darkin and the two guys "fuse" into one being when rhaast takes over there is no sign of kayn left but in varus' story it seems like they are all fighting for control of the body in the mind but im not 100% sure this is just my take on things based on what we were given

It's not necessarily what the Darkin look like, but in lieu of a physical body he made a crude phantom to use as a temporary avatar. Notice how the lights come into Kai's body and then the spectral form appears from within him.
