Would it make sense thematically if Skarner had a passive like Bard's?

Skarner's story is of him traveling the world in search of his kin's life crystals, which seems like the perfect excuse to have a "find stuff around the map" passive.

Would also be significantly less tacky than spawning giant rocks around the map. I know the idea is supposed to be "hey, Skarner's the Crystal Scar/Dominion champion, so let's make Dominion his passive", but still...

Actually, some combination of chimes and his spires could be really cool for a jungler encouraged to counterjungle.

agreed lets continue to talk about this, it would make for an interesting discussion, but it kinda sits at a crossroads between, gameplay/story/concepts

All I'm imagining is old skarner picking up the pieces of his family and his former life before the nuclear magic missiles torched their home [cass-cry]

I can definitely see something come out of this.

Something like his Q dealing 1% more damage for every crystal he's collected, his shield gaining 5 more hit points for every crystal he's collected, his speed up gaining 1% more movement speed for every crystal he's collected, stun duration being increased by 0.1 for every crystal he's collected.

Of course, the crystals would have to be rarer than Bard's Chimes or else this might get out of hand.
