Who Invented Zed's Shadow Technique?

Zed found it in the library or something like that correct? If so, then who put it there and created it in the first place? Will this ever be explored?

Some asshole did.

I'd assume it was some kind of shadow spirit sealed inside of the box granted it was a forbidden box sealed in the Kinkou temple in Ionia, under the jurisdiction of the Eye of Twilight. Yep, has to be some sort of spirit/ spirit technique.

This is what I am guessing too. We know Ionia and the Kinkou are very much tied to the spirit world, so I would guess it was an ancient Kinkou master who started exploring the shadows of the spirit worlds and came across an incredible power. I would also guess the ancient Kinkou members had to subdue and potentially lock up his power in the box.

It makes you wonder if Zed can enter the spirit realm same as Shen? Or if possibly after having the power for long enough he becomes able to enter the spirit as a side effect.

Enter is probably not the right word. I think invade fits better for Zed.

Not necessarily, remember some of the spirits in Shen's story were not really kind to people. Spirit realms in many stories and interpretations also often contain demons. I'm sure Zed would have some shadow spirit homies in the spirit realm.

If he really liked the demons, he wouldn't try to seperate Runeterra and the Spirit World.

Wrathof3002 votes

Who said he was separating them, maybe he was building a gate. Think of it like this, you want to build an iron bridge, but you need to get the iron from ores in the earth. When you build your bridge you have no more iron.

Iron = spiritual energy Bridge = spirit gate

Still seperating. It limits ways of demons.

Also if it wasn't seperating, destroying the artifact wouldn't make spirits visible again for both Xayah and Rakan.

Wrathof3002 votes

If it were a bridge he was making it probably would be meant for people and not for the spirits.

Spiritual energy concentrated due to artifact. Artifact destroyed = spiritual energy released into environment.

That's what I would kinda assume what he does when he teleports around. I also have only played Zed maybe...5 times maximum? But I had never noticed that when he dies (and I think recalls?) he does this hand motion and opens up a portal to escape into. I think he's going into the spirit world, or at least it's kind of like Bard's portals where it's a tunnel through the spirit world to another place in Runeterra/Ionia.

Now I want a Zed lore update. Hype!!

ZedUsanGovos2 votes

YES pls. ; - ; my b0i Zed doesn't get enough lore-love. I mean, the animation is gr8, but you know, wtf happened when he was with the master after he returned, and like the OP said, what is the source of the shadow-magic?

Originally I assumed it was connected to Nocturne. That might no longer be the case.

Nocturne was originally the runeterran equivalent of Freddy Krueger.

He was brought into the physical realm by a freak accident with the nexus on the Twisted Treeline, and has been bound there ever since.

Not sure what his lore is at the moment.

There is speculation that Nocturne is a future version of zed, but there's not much to back it up.

During the Demacia event we got a story where Lux and Garen fight a nightmare demon.

A Rioter later clarified that said demon was indeed nocturne.
