Let's all take this time to mourn Aatrox's bio removal

Yes, I'm calling it a removal.

Went from a god of war who lived to turn the tides in battle to some stupid fucking demon who just possesses some random asshole who picks up his sword.

I don't even follow the lore that much but this pissed me the FUCK off.

You couldn't just fucking change his kit to fit his character so instead you just made his character as shitty as his kit.

Congratulations Riot,

Fuck you.

Edit: This is his new lore, enjoy if it's possible.

"One of the ancient darkin, Aatrox was once a peerless swordmaster who reveled in the bloody chaos of the battlefield. Trapped within his own blade by the magic of his foes, he waited out the millennia for a suitable host to wield him - this mortal warrior was corrupted and transformed by the living weapon, and Aatrox was reborn. Though tales of the darkin have now passed into legend, he remembers only too well the destruction of his race, and wreaks his vengeance one sword blow at a time."

Though tales of the darkin have now passed into legend, he remembers only too well the destruction of his race, and wreaks his vengeance one sword blow at a time.

Feels more like they gave him actual character motivation rather than just doing weird things for whatever weird reason he had that was never explained. Revenge for his fallen species is a pretty understandable motivation.

Also he's never been a God of War, he's always been part of a species called the darkin, and people ascribed legends to him being a hero of legend with incredible, inspirational power, which never translated in to game, even though it was really cool.

You know that aatrox is the sword theory has been around since forever. Also I hardly call Aatrox god of war.

I would be more disappointed that Xin Zhao wasn't graced with any lore, big or small for his GU.

Because it seems weird that narrative would privilege Aatrox with new lore just because his GU will be "larger in scope" than the recent ones. I realize that Aa has gone horrendously long without lore and that writers were excessively teasing Darkin stories about a year ago. But Xin Zhao needed lore too, he might be a contender for a future rework (although that rework will be long into the future, no doubt) yet that shouldn't excuse him, should it? And again is it literally just because Aa's GU is bigger than Xin's means he's graced with lore updating over others?

I don't know. Revengeful demon sword or "wise" - war mongering demon sword who appears in legends as a hero but it's not really heroism going on...

I agree with you OP. I think the previous story had a lot more going on for it.

no, that's his short form bio for the client

his actual lore is still intact

what on earth are you talking about. Just because they are changing his bio does not mean is not going to be the one who turned that tide of battle. You think because they had this new bio it means riot said: "Fuck it, Aatrox is not a representation of war anymore." He still is. He is still the darkin that cut tryndamere and destroyed his tribe. He is still the one who turned the tide of battle for the protectorates vs magelords. Stop being so dramatic.

We have been through this already guys, short bios are a temporary thing until they give the champions their full lore. Better to have some small piece of canon lore for now than to have a giant text of expired old lore polluting the champs lore page.

As for the bios in the game itself not being fleshed out and formatted in the way the Universe page is, now that would be a valid complaint cause some people think some champions like Ahri have short bios only, despite having a complete lore update recently. They just don't know the universe pages exist. What better way to introduce them to the lore then to just simply transfer the format of the universe pages into the game itself, giving players access to the lore of the champions without initially opening up a separate internet page.

I don't like how they shortened and changed Aatrox's bio. Before he was a sort of battlefield legend that many probably thought was only myth. The Darkin were a mystery, he was secretive and rumored to be long living and maybe immortal.

Now he's just a kinda demon sword out for revenge and a LOT of the air of mystery has been stripped away in rather unsatisfying ways in my opinion.

I think the worse lore twist is the Ornn narrative changing Volibear from a warrior-shaman of an intelligent tribe of bear people to being labeled a savage war god that twists people into ursine creatures. I'm hoping it's just the case of an opposing side telling vile propaganda against an enemy.

Yes I saw it with the other updated bios.

This tells us who the original Aatrox was, which I was glad to hear. But....the fact they incorporate him desiring "revenge" -is not really an element for his current voice over. Ideas of war for its own sake, and past ideas of him choosing the underdog side. Ezreals investigation into the matter during the original release, was quite detailed, with a lot of art. I hope they keep that legendary aspect.
