New splash arts are AMAZING, though I noticed a small error/inconsistency...

Of all of the 11(!) amazing new splash arts that hit the PBE today, probably my favorite has to be Tristana's. It just captures her playful destruction-loving personality so well in that face and gesture (she's like if Jinx hadn't gone mad somewhere down the road.. and was a yordle).

Upon inspecting it a bit, I noticed she has the new Yordle characteristics in place, by that I mean the cat-like ears more on top of the head (as opposed to small "elf" ears on the side like on live), and the small amounts of fur covering them, and also what appears to be slightly elongated canine teeth.

One thing that I noticed though from looking her over, she has 5 fingers!

Based on current yordle designs, aren't yordles supposed to have 4 fingers?

You even gave Veigar 4 fingers, and his splash art came out the same time Trist's did. :(

It's honestly not a HUGE deal to me, but it is still an inconsistency in the style and design of the game, and I think it should be fixed. :(

I don't want to ignore your point as it is a valid criticism.

I just really like the new splash art, I kind of don't mind the fingers since some other splash arts recently also have similar minor errors.

I REALLY like it as well, and even WITH the inconsistency, it's still my favorite among the new splash arts (and pretty much all of them are amazing).

It's ironic that the one splash that can bring up so many problems with other splashes is also the one that has the most personality in it (And in my opinion, the best of the latest batch of new splashes).

Consequence of the Megling Genocide artistic choice that Riot allows. There isn't really any consistency to the number fingers the have; I would have attributed this to their sexual dimorphism but other male Yordles have five fingers as well, even though no females have four.

Teemo On his ORIGINAL splash art (No skins), wear gloves, so you cant say how many fingers has. Rumble Wear gloves like Teemo Kennen 5 Heimerdinger 4 Gnar 4 again Veigar 4 as well Ziggs 4 Corki needs VU like the old heim Amumu 4

Tristana 5 Poppy ? Lulu 5

As I replied to Sadistic Lulu, it's the more recent Yordles that have 4 fingers, and I would assume they would be the standard by which all Yordles would be designed after.

Though Lulu (particularly her Winter Wonder skin) does bring up some odd questions when it comes to consistency, particularly her having 5 fingers as well.

I understand there are physical differences in different genders of nearly every species, but one having 4 fingers while the other has 5? That seems a little odd to me, and it makes them look too different from one another in my opinion, when the only significant difference would (I would assume) be whether they have a Y chromosome or not.

A little off topic but just from a theory and design perspective I think "males have four fingers, females have five" is an interesting and unique concept for what is essentially a child-friendly game. All of the yordles obviously aren't human and throwing idealistic, human-female physical traits on them would be a bit forced. Now, for yordles anyways, "my fairer half" is now the "my extra fingers" or something equally cheesy/cute.

Can you imagine all the fun dialogue and social commentary/creation you could do with as simple a difference as the number of fingers each gender has? What if female yordles have typically been the alphas because of that extra finger? Think of how different that would make their society from ours.

What if Kennen is actually a girl? :D A really, really hairy girl.

I know I'm way off topic since this has nothing to do with art consistency; I just thought it would be a fun idea to express

Isn't Tristana supposed to be a megling or whatever? Plus I think there was a distinction between the really human-ish Yordles like Poppy and Tristana vs. more hamster-like Ziggs and Teemo.

...the real question is what the heck a megling is.

Im not sure if "meglings" exist anymore, not as a separate race at least. Pretty sure she's a female yordle.

The retconned the meglings into a Military Unit of the Yordles. Poppy and Tristana are yordles. Theory is that female Yordles shed their fur at earlier ages than Males. Corki is an old Yordle, thus he has shed his fur. Except his glorious Mustache of Course.

A rioter actually confirmed that the idea of making meg kings a separate race was a typo, and the so called recon was fixing it.

Meglings were genocided out of existence retconned into Yordles. Female Yordles are what meglings used to be, and the Meglings are now just a Yordle Military SMU.

Just looked at Poppy's splash arts.

Her base has 4 fingers, Lollipoppy has 4, Ragdoll Poppy has 5, Scarlet Hammer has 5, and the others I can't tell.

So still not sure if it's meant to be a conscious design choice or a an inconsistency flaw.

I like this move to be honest. I think the females need a little more fur to make them appear more Yordle. Also it's common for features to be different in many species when it comes to fur, feathers, and sometimes other, non-reproductive, body parts to vary between the male or female of a species.

That is true, sexual dimorphism (what you explained, the physical differences between genders of a single species) is a thing, but I dont think it's ever resulted in anything so drastic as males having one less functional appendage altogether (aside from reproductive organs), just the same ones in varying sizes.

I have 5 fingers. Teemo has 5 fingers. Poppy has five. Corki has five, if Riot still consider him as one (they probably do). Even Kennen has five fingers.

So it's more of a "variation" kind of thing. And the parrot (and the design team) are probably making all female yordles have furry ears as well.

I mean, just look at my winter skin...

Yes they all have 5 fingers, but they were designed a long time ago compared to newer examples (which I have images of but tey're STILL not showing up.. seriously these boards have a very confusing format when it comes to uploading images DD:)

In short, they are outdated in design. New Heimerdinger, Ziggs, Gnar, those are the yordles current yordles are designed after.

So we're just going to attest some yordles having 5 fingers to random mutations? I mean if that's what they are I wont argue it, but I would think Riot should say something about that.

Last female yordles (skins or champ) have 5 fingers male yordles have 4 (even the newest skins) Originally female yordles had 4 fingers too (checked skins and classics)

Yordles aren't really conistent. You've got the female Yordles that are human-esque in terms of hair, then you've got the fuzzball males (except Corki, who has the bare skin and a huge mustache.) Then you've got some Yordles like Kennen who have two toes, and then ones like Rumble who have the standard human 5.

Well the Yordle inconsistency is exactly what caused them to start regulating their designs, hence the designs of Ziggs, Heimerdinger and Gnar being what they are (furry, cat-like ears on top of head, sharp feral teeth, etc).

The older yordles who dont match their designs need visual updates to fall in line with current designs, it's as simple as that really. What I don't get is why Tristana, in her new splash, displays ALL of the new characteristics of current yordle designs (cat-like ears on top of the head, furry (at least on the ears), sharp feral teeth, etc), EXCEPT FOR the fingers. That's where the inconsistency truly comes in on a modern League art design level.

If you think that's bad, go look at Alistar and Master Yi's splashes...they alternate between having 4 and 5 fingers all the damn time and it's been that way since the very beginning of LoL.

I just want to underline a VERY important thing you pointed out:

All the male Yordles have 4 fingers, females have 5.

Kennen's was probably an oversight, but that seems to be the running theme here.
