Why are Galio and Shyvana related as friends still?

Before in some trivia on the wiki, it talked about Shyvana gaining insight from Galio and his wisdom to have better control of her rage. That made a lot of sense as to why they were listed as friends. But now, with the Galio rework coming fairly soon now and relooking at it, it just states that she goes into fits of rage and he's the only one, if not the only one to calm her.

This makes absolutely makes no sense to me. The new Galio, at least from what I can recall of his new VO, does in no way sound like a wise guardian as the old one, let alone have great wisdom for calming someone down. Yes he calms her down in the new trivia, more or less being the only thing big enough to hold her down/back if we're considering she transforms in these fits, but why would this dictate to have them continue to be related as friends? What are they just battle buddies now? Is calming her the only thing that dictates him as being a friend to her?
