Xayah and Rakan's dialogues are so...... cringeworthy

They sound straight out of a 13 years old girl's school diary. I found that kinda stuff cringey when I was 13 years old myself; imagine how I feel about such dialogue lines now.

I think they genuinely wanted to appeal to a kind of audience who finds those lines "cool".

For me it would seem they are made as the "overbearing couples", you know the type, the ones that kiss intensely during a red light and tease around in the middle of a busy road, at least on the surface during gameplay interaction.

The cinematic reveals a deeper side of their relationship.

So far you're the only one here who knows what they are talking of. Lol. The people in this thread are beyond blind and are quick to say how Riot fucked up but Riot knows what they are doing...especially with character development.

you are calling people blind for sharing their point of view! you could try to read their Q&A on Reddit answered by RIOT themselves. then compare what they said with what you see yourself in the characters.

sure riot knows what they are doing but that doesn't mean everything is going to turn out the way they want!

they nerfed miss fortune few patch back then next patch they said "we made a mistake it was too much.dialing it back" they are not immune to mistakes! not saying they made a mistake here about Xayah and Rakan but certainly not everyone managed to see it the way they wanted.

i myself agree with "Sekai" and those type of overbeating couples ARE infact cringy!

Gameplay/Balance and Character Development are two different teams that do two different things.
Just because Riot says "we've made a mistake" doesn't mean they actually made a mistake.

I'm calling people blind because they think Riot missed the dart with two couple's dialogue.

It's almost like you wanted to respond to my comment for no reason since you agree with Sekai, who said, "For me it would seem they are made as the overbearing couples." And the fact that you completely misunderstood it.

but no i replied to your comment cause i was one of the people who thought riot slightly missed with their actual purpose with these characters. based on what they claim and my own judgement.

i am sorry i should have explained my point further : thats exactly what i meant. you call people blind for having opinions and point of view about this, instead of closing our eyes and blindly accept whatever any developer throw at us and say hey these are perfect people who never make any mistakes. sure they know what they are doing but that doesn't mean everything they doing is going to turn out perfect.thats just impossible!

I actually found the dialogue really entertaining. A lot of the interaction between the two is minor bickering, which makes them sound a bit like an elderly couple, IMO. (I like that for some reason.)

Rakan is suave as all heck, but he's also a bit of a derp, which I found really charming.

Xayah is the stereotypical edgy teen, which I also found charming, moreso for irony. (...And possibly because I'm still moving out of those "edgy" days. .-.)

They both convey a lot of character, IMO, and their special dialogue really reinforces their love.

yeah i agree.

but at same time i think thats kinda the point too, i mean if we want a dynamic and realistic world we should have all kind of people in them. cringy lovey dovey couples could be one of them i suppose.

The sad thing is that there's a large chunk of LOL fans who take that stuff super seriously. Those cringy emote and meme spamming ones you find on social media, posting cosplays of Ahri, Sona, Riven, Jinx etc and going on about how "i'll carry you so you can carry me <3 <3 <3", you know that lot? I suppose they were made to appeal to that demographic. Need more manly military officers and less anime characters.

Xayah and Rakan are cringeworhty to begin with imo. I mean they might have new game play mechanics, but as far as lore? Just no. Rebel couple that somehow every part of Ionia could have a problem with.

This duo is more or less targeted towards "shippers" and people who want Riot to start making romance more noticeable in the lore. And they cater to it. I'm not even looking forward towards the next champion after them.

Each new champion is vastly different from the last so I'm sure, the romance (which I think is completely fine) in lore isn't going to always be there.

They are a bit cringeworthy, thats why I hope that someday Riot adds some special Thresh voicelines to go with theirs.

Xayah "Ugh, I hate everyone today" Rakan "I know what will make you feel better..." Thresh "Giving your soul to the Lantern to suffer for all eternity!!"
