After reading Ahri's lore, she looks like she could use friend and Wukong would be perfect cheer her up. Wukong and Ahri used to be friends in the old lore. Will it happen again? Wukong with his cheerful personality could bring a smile to Ahri's sad life.

It would have been pointless to update both their lores and not update their related champs section as well. We still don't have any explanation as to why they are friends, but it does look like they are.

Ahri was so isolated in her old lore (rip), they said "We have to give her someone for a friend or enemy!" and decided to down the other humanoid with animal features from Ionia.
Otherwise, all its done is spur a shitty ship.
