Why Trifarix and not simply Triumvirate?

I would guess they thought Triumvirate was too Roman. Riot’s not-so-new direction is to draw from history and legends without copying. Unless your Asian, then ninjas, kitsune, and Wukong are ok. For some reason.

Anyway, maybe farix means something? All I got from google is some sort of diversified return fund.

Well its not like we don't have knights,kings,priests,assassins and so on,so why are ninjas so odd? Also Ahris lore and character are just copy pasted from the asian mythology.

Wukong on the other hand was really originally almost copy pasted from the myth,he was created during a simpler time and they will likely try to differentiate him a bit more from the myth eventually

There are no knights in this game. I think people think Garen is supposed to be a knight... but he really isn't one. Honestly, he most closely resembles a Landsknecht. Which, just saying that makes me cringe a bit. There is also no hashāashīn in the game, there are paid murderers, but that's a universal thing. Same goes for kings and priests.

The only real western things we have are the Spartan, who's going to be reworked into the space parasite. And Olaf the viking. Olaf's awesome. And, you know what, I'll add Fiora. Sure she looks nothing like a renaissance fencer, but she's close enough.

The former western inspired characters were the pirate, who, to make different added a robo-arm thing. The werewolf, also got the robo-arm. The gargoyle, who became a statue-thing.

On the Asian side of things we got 3 ninja (though only 2 of which I would count), the kitsune, the ancient chinese soldier, and son wukong. I don't think there is anything in the works to make Ahri less of a kitsune.

Which honestly, isn't really a complaint. I actually quite like Asian culture, though admittedly I've always been more fascinated by Chinese and Korean culture as opposed to the seemingly more popular Japanese. But that's probably because I've always found samurai and ninja fairly overrated. I just want more of it, all of it. I want a Roman Centurion, a Swiss Pikeman, a Korean High Admiral, an Aztec Jaguar Warrior. I'd probably buy them all.

Garen is a knight. We know that knight is a title existing in Demacia and as Garen is a noble and a renown fighter of the country(and pretty much the best buddy of the prince) I doubt that he isn't one himself. A Landsknecht on the other hand is a mercenary.

And just because Garen doesn't use a shield or a helmet doesn't mean he isn't a knight.

And honestly it doesn't even matter if he is referred to as a knight or not(after all no one refers to Ahri as a kitsune/gumiho or Xin as a chinese soldier),he is still clearly based on them.

Also just because Gp has a robot arm doesn't make him any less of a pirate. If anything it actually helps to inforce the pirate theme as it is common to depict pirates who lost part of their body and replaced it with something else. Pretty much the same goes for Warwick who is still a werewolf.

And Pantheon will likely be changed from a regular spartan to a godly one(which would essentially make him Ares...)

Anyway my point is that we pretty much always get popular archetypes in the game,regardless if they are asian,european,egyptian(cough Azir Nasus Renekton ) or really any other region,as long as said archetype is well known enough and stands out from the roster(For example I kinda doubt that we'd see a pikeman,since that would be rather similar to Jarvan). Nowadays Riot does try to put some unique twists on these archetypes(Gps robo arm,Galio as a colossal gargoyle and our "light cavalry"-champ is an angry gremlin riding on a lizard),but that doesn't change the archetype at its core.

He’s not though. He’s a generic fantasy warrior guy that may get called a knight. But he most certainly isn’t a heavy shock cavalry.

That Gangplank has a robot arm does make him less a pirate. That’s the point.

The kitsune’s design can just be a kitsune. But the pirate has to have a robot arm. He can’t just be a pirate.

I think the major difference here is that you think more about historic/mythologic accuracy,while I think more about how the themes are nowadays seen.

Knights were most commonly used as shock cavalry(though that was not what defined a knight),but nowadays they are just as much associated with medieval noble swordsmen that fight on foot

Pirates had no robot arms. Though some of them had hook hands,the robot arm is simply the logical evolution of the hook hand.

And Ahri is one of the older champs,like I said,Riots designs were a bit simpler in the earlier days.(also she is based on the korean gumiho,not the kitsune),though they already tried to differentiate her a bit from the myth,making her a vastaya and not a fox who gained mystic powers.

She’ll be actually distinct when they give her robo-tails or a glowing magic bird face or something.

Which is my point and the pattern. She’s allowed to look like a gumiho, Wukong is just Wukong. The ninjas can look just like ninjas (except kennen).

But the pirates gotta be redesigned to have a robot arm.

Because the pirate got a big VGU thanks to his crappy model and lackluster gameplay. Just like the Gargoyle or the werewolf.

If Wukong or Ahri got a VGU they'd be differentiated a bit more. They also expressed their desire to make Akali more than just a "ninja assassin"(which makes sense given that Zed fills that role as well).

Well, let’s place a little wager. I think that when the Akali rework gets here, she will not have anything as genre bending as giving the regular pirate a robot arm.

If they do end up giving her animal legs or a laser eye. I’ll publically declare that you were right. If they do nothing beyond maybe giving her a “ki glow” then she’s just a ninja. And you won’t have to do anything. But I’ll know I was right.

Again I am not sure how Gps robot arm is genre bending. it is merely a variation of the classic hook hand.

Alright you find me 12 seas pirate with a mech hand that isn’t a space opera.

Hell man there are more ghost pirates and that is still genre mixing.

Like this is the whole point of this. He’s a pirate with a robot hand. That is not normal pirate stuff. That’s his original shtick. Something Akali and Wukong do not have.
