@Riot - Good Job! I love Varus' new lore!

I just thought that with all the hate coming at you folks from people who are homophobic and not happy with the incredible work you did with Varus' lore, you needed someone to tell you that it's amazing! I love it, and I like the diversity that you're adding to the game. Kai, Val, and Varus are a much more interesting character, and the comics and the music video are just crazy good! Great job to your team!

As a side note, did you guys draw inspiration from this from Garnet in Steven Universe?

There are some legitimate criticisms being thrown around too. Make sure you don't just sweep everything negative being said under the "homophobic" rug.

I love the lore too! Who cares if an archer likes the shaft a bit more? Good job Rito.

I think this mentality is exactly why Varus fans are upset. I haven't met a single fan of the old lore that is happy that it was replaced with this lore. And all the people that like the new lore never cared about Varus' old lore. So they literally alienated and upset all of Varus' old fans just to get a new group of people to like new character (characters?) for totally different reasons.

using " i like the new one cuz its gay" is just as bad as "i hate the new one because its gay"

its the same argument on both sides of the same coin. varus is no longer vegence. the lore broke that. varus is now just a mind fuck threesome. he has no reason to seek vegence. no family lost nothing.

If the guy stayed dead thats one thing but no.

Yeah, I love it. Varus was always a favorite of mine with the old lore and I really liked the character. I think this new lore honestly is a lot more tragic and though I did really like the old lore, I always thought it was a little bit of a cliche.

Doesn't make the new one less cliched or anything, but I feel like it's very well made.

It's not about making a character less edgy, its about changing a whole character and turning it into something he isn't. Sure Varus new lore is cool and original and all, but it would have been better for NEW champs, instead of changing him as a whole. Varus was Varus because he was the way he was. And he was appreciated (or not) because of this. Its actually possible to give more dept to a character without changing completely everything. It just need some lore expension, honestly. They did it with Zaun and Piltover update and it worked pretty well. So why go for such a drastic change to a character that was more than set ? Next time, rewrite Katarina as a gogo-dancer from Shurima in love with Leona the sister of Jinx for the sake of diversity or i know what and call it a day.

also how about this using the "homophobe"card. the first person i told the change to is gay. my best friend we play league alot. "Gross" was his reply.

In all honesty, the new lore is extremely bland as well. A gay couple looking for shelter after (I don't remember which one) became injured, stumble upon an evil temple and as such get possessed by a demon who is out for vengeance. His old lore was cliche yes, but is still written better then that is. A man who lost his family had a duty to protect an evil weapon from the clutches of the enemy invaders. As a final attempt to protect his people during this war, he dawned the evil weapon to fight for his country and to seek revenge for those that took the lives of his family. Well. If you think the old lore was cliche and the new lore is written badly, why not fuse the two together and make it even better?

Instead it would be two male guards, long time lovers who were instructed to help defend a weapon sealed away and hidden from Ionia's enemies in a temple. That strategy would not work as, soon enough, a squad of Noxian soldiers stormed their way through killing and injuring those who were in their wake. Hearing the commotion outside (Kai or Val ) in an act of brave valor walk towards the doors as a first call to the disturbance only to have a blade thrust into their side by one of the savage warriors who had opened the temple doors. The Noxians fought their way in and while (Kai or Val's) lover was moments away from being dealt the final blow, more soldiers came in and others were outside still fighting. (Again Kai or Val) had only one option left as they were desperate to save the one closest to them and to protect his fellow countrymen. They toss their spear aside to dawn the evil weapon and with it, they kill the Noxian soldiers surrounding his boyfriend. He rushes to tend to his lovers wounds and as he does so, the devilish darkin that sleeps within the weapon awakens to it's new hosts. It takes each couple's form and combines them into one. It saves the soul of (Whoever was struck) but at the cost of their bodies, which was now controlled by the demon of agony that resided within the bow. As the pair watch the Darkin Varus slaughter those thought to be foe and friend, his actions would not quell the spirit of the couple. As Varus seeks revenge for those who have contained him, those he currently traps will fight him in this battle of control every step of the way.

That's a better lore. If you could get past the shitty writing n' grammar. It gives the characters a true purpose. A gay couple stumbling upon an evil temple and accidentally falling into the possesion of a Darkin serve no purpose. Varus the darkin has a motive but not the couple, they just wanna get out. That's boring, and bad writing. Stumbling upon something is boring writing too. Characters should have a drive, that way their personalities develop further as this drive becomes well known and it pushes them to go beyond their limitations all for the sake or purpose of something or other. Its what makes the character. I don't give a flying fuck if Varus is gay, straight, left, or right just make the story GOOD. Don't make it a flop, that focuses solely on the relationship of the couple, and doesn't give enough depth as to a purpose they'd have as a character. Even if it's a character of multiple minds and one body, they all should have varying personalities and their own drive. You can say that the soldiers drive is to save his lover, but what does that matter when their minds are all in one body?? "Oh let us out" Like wtf. Make them soldiers, make them out to be warriors and have them use their combined will to fight back the Darkin to regain control and help save their people! And if they're stuck that way well after the invasion at least they went out acting for the sake of their country and to save their lover from certain death at the hands of another soldier, not to be all sappy.

Good to know you’re dismissing criticism without reading it.
