Ashe Rework Concept: Ashe, the Walking Campfire

TLDR: so, basically, Ashe's slow is moved to her passive, her crit is worked in to a new ability (on her Q), her W is made spammier, more mana intensive, and less impactful, Her E is changed from bonus gold and vision to a campfire that does campfire things, and you can detonate her R in mid-flight now but it doesn't stun anymore. It does, however, block movement abilities, and its potential aoe is much larger. The slow also lasts longer now. No changes to her base stats proposed. Tell me what you think.

Passive: Frost Ashe's first attack or ability against an enemy will freeze them in ice, slowing them for a brief time. Ashe's basic attacks and abilities against them will lengthen the duration and refresh the strength of the slow, up to a maximum time. Once the ice melts, the enemy becomes Thawed, and cannot be slowed again for ten seconds. Basic attacks (not abilities!) ashe makes against them will lower this individual CD by 2 seconds per hit.

Q: Focus | 20 second cooldown at all levels Select an enemy up to a short distance beyond Ashe's basic attack range, afflicting them with the debuff Focused. Ashe begins lining up her next shot on this target, increasing her range and critical strike chance against them over time up to a maximum at +30/35/40/45/50% range and 100% crit chance.

  • Starting bonus range and selection distance depends on Ashe's sitting crit chance.
  • Once Ashe completes an attack, the buff stops increasing and the bonus crit chance is lost; however, the range remains until 2 seconds have passed without attacking the Focused enemy.
  • If the first attack crits, it gains +10/20/30/40/50% Critical Damage.
  • If the target dies or another unit is attacked, Focus is lost, but the cooldown is halved.

W: Fragile Volley | 2 second cooldown at all levels | 50 mana Ashe fires an arrow that shatters as it leaves the bow, throwing a spread of deadly shards in a cone that deal damage to the first enemy they encounter and afflict them with Frost. The trajectory can be modified in a manner similar to heimerdinger's missiles. Each enemy can take damage from a maximum of two shards. Fragile Volley deals additional damage to and passes through enemies afflicted with Frost.

E: Respite (aka Campfire) | 40/35/30/25/20 second cooldown Ashe sets down a campfire (or festivity, etc, maybe Queen Ashe gets a buffet table, who knows?) at an area for 10 seconds. Out of Combat allies can use the campfire to regain % missing health and mana over time as they channel (procs dance? something to think about).

  • If allies remain out of combat near-by the campfire for five seconds, they gain a powerful buff, Rested, that increases max health, bonus attack damage, ability power, and gold and experience gained for 30 seconds.
  • Rested is removed 10 seconds after taking damage from an enemy champion.

R: Arrival of HodorWinter | Live cooldown (idr what it is) | 100 mana Ashe looses an enchanted arrow of true ice with global range that gains size as it travels. When the ability hits, it deals damage to the target and slows them for up to 4 seconds, and then shatters, releasing a field of ice that deals less damage to secondary targets and then slows enemies in its area for up to three seconds. Enemies slowed by this ability are treated as if rooted for the first half of the duration.

  • Ashe can reactivate Arrival of Hodor while it is in mid-flight to shatter it immediately, increasing the size of the field by ~20%.
  • the size of the field and the strength of the slow and damage are all dependent on distance traveled, but will not be less than X or more than Y.

i feel like her ult is way too impactful at close range and way too unreliable at long range, and when it's on cooldown she's a sitting duck. I feel like taking her stun away but giving her a way to keep enemies at bay in the early game (with a lower cooldown on W, which procs and refreshes her passive slow) will even her out, making getting ganked early in the game less miserable and trying to reach her as an assassin later in the game less impossible. Honestly, i like her current W. I don't like her current passive. I don't like her current Q, which is useless is many situations and not so in others. W is really her only mana sink, and i've decided to embrace that. I've never liked her E. The vision is really strong, the gold is nice, but it, again, doesn't feel impactful. A team buff? Lane sustain? An incentive for the jungler to come down to bot-lane periodically? i'll take it. I've never understood why her passive was called Focus. Almost as much as i've never understood why Tristana's is Draw a Bead. I think this new Q better embodies the idea of Focus.

Also, i guess what i like the very least is that current Ashe feels a great deal like some ripoff combination of Drow and Mirana(is that right? am i even spelling that right?). Her only real choice comes in to play in using her ult. W is a spam that her mana bar can handle, and Q can be activated every time she attacks a champion without posing any mana problems at all. She is a bare minimum ADC. I understand that's an intentional design choice; i'm just throwing out an idea i came up with one day when i was really bored, that idea essentially being: What if Ashe had a campfire?

I like the idea of her Q for a passive of some sorts with as slight rework to make it more intuitive.

so the newfound potential for "camping jungler" jokes didn't catch your eye darn

The E is a horrible concept, it doesn't match with the champion or the Marksman role. Her Ult doesn't need changes, it's already a very powerful spell. I don't have anything in particular against the passive, but I feel it will discourage poking in lane for fear of your support engaging on them soon after. The new Q is plain OP, it would give her too much power in the early game; unlike Varus' Q it's not a skillshot, and it would be too easy to level 1/2 cheese and get first blood. Ashe already has a high AA range. With the high cooldown on her Q, it wouldn't become as useful late game as it would only be used once per fight unless she builds CDR. Her W would be held back by mana constraints, but nevertheless would give her a lot of power in fights. I hope you made this rework to be a joke thread.

you seem to be operating under the assumption that ashe is a 'marksman' /thread nevertheless, i appreciate you reading the thread and providing actionable feedback. If i made it so that, let's say, the Q would be force cancelled and put on cooldown if Ashe A) lost vision on the target B) went out of a specific range of the target or C) took damage from that target before attacking them and removed or reduced the crit damage addition, would that assuage some of your concerns? I think that having an on demand stun on her ult removes a lot of potential for power to placed in other areas of Ashe's kit. I don't like that it's basically relegated to being a short range peel ability instead of its seemingly intended purpose. That's why i'm proposing the change. I don't see how the E falls out of line with Ashe's concept as leader of the softest of Freljord's tribes. She's supposed to be the tribe that tamed and civilized Freljord and promoted community, right? That's her? I think this ability does more justice to that than anything she currently has. Earlier in the game it allows them to stay in lane longer and gives them more gold and experience for doing so and avoiding trades (which pressures the enemy to force hard engages which this kit is supposed to make her lose, that's something i could work on), and it also gives the jungler an incentive to show up for ganks at botlane more often, and then heal back with the campfire and gain its buff to improve their jungling. Later on in the game, teams can group up in a lane, take the buff and try to force a fight before the enemy can pop it with poke damage.
