[Champion Concept] Dormal, the Eternal Sleeper

Background/Lore There is an old saying which states "Should you believe it, so it comes true". A belief that if enough people believed in something then it would come to fruition. It is within this state of being that one such creature dwells. Dormal, a being who is said to watch over sleeping creatures, and in fact it is said that he is the reason why people sleep. Flying atop a majestic creature as they spread a magical dust over the land.

In most of these stories he is an avid protector of all sleeping creatures. Watching over them as they lie dormant, walking into their dreams should they meet with trouble. Soothing the weary minds and turning nightmares into paradise. In other stories Dormal is a vengeful being who lulls those who have committed atrocities to sleep and then feeds off their very life essence all while punishing them with nightmares of their deepest fears.

Of course, all these are stories told through the ages, and one thing remains constant. Dormal is a being associated with sleeping and dreams. Always appearing atop a mystical creature as they fly across the land lulling weary minds to rest.

With all these being stories it is no wonder that many people did not put any thought into it. Not until an interesting event unfolded. A battle near a mountain range. Both sides fighting nonstop. The field soaked in blood. All sides weary of heart, mind, and body. Despite this, they all fought on ferociously...until they didn't, for all those present fell promptly asleep. Those that can remember before they passed out say that they saw a sort of sparkling dust in the air. As if a million tiny stars were before them. A large shriek was heard, and above them was a giant bird whose wings showing like an aurora borealis. Some say they even saw a person upon such a bird.

Since this incident many others have occurred where weary minds, hearts, and bodies were to be found. Whether it was a village so wracked with work that no one got a moments rest, or on a battlefield where everyone was too tired to carry on yet pushed themselves to the max. It didn't matter. Wherever exhaustion hit a spell of mass sleep followed. The same eye witness reports of a giant bird with wings which shined like the aurora borealis as thousands of sparkling dust that look like stars settled upon them, and a man riding atop this bird.

Thus, a story has become real, and rest is found for the weary.

"I am the sleeper. Pleasant dreams be upon you,"-Dormal, the Eternal Sleeper

DISCLAIMER Any images or icons used are simply there for visual references. They are not my own and all credit for the images or icons should go to the respective creators. All icons or images used may not be 100% accurate, but are as close as I could find for a rough visual reference. Thank you.

SECOND DISLCAIMER Any similarities between my champion and any other being out there whether it is another champion, a creature of mythology, or anyone elses work is simply coincidental. I also understand that there is a champion associated with dreams and the like already, that champion being Nocturne. However, Nocturne was created by nightmares, or so his lore speculates. Thus, him and my champion are already fundamentally different. Dormal was brought forth from stories of a being who lulls people to sleep, and calms their nightmares. There are stories of him causing nightmares, yes, but he was not created from them. In fact Dormal, while created through stories, was always real. Just never within the physical world until recently.

Additionally, the title of my champion is a work in progress. Possibly subject to change. Thank you.

Appearance http://www.duniverso.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/valora-jonasdero.jpg This is literally the closest image I could find that represented what I imagined for Dormal. At least in terms of what he rides upon. In fact, both the rider and the bird are considered to be Dormal as one is nothing without the other.

The rider himself is cloaked in a similar appearance as the bird of which he rides upon. A cloak which shines the same as the birds wings, and has a similar feathery appearance. He wears a hood which sports a bird like mask. Behind the eye holes of the mask are eyes which glow gold, and what you can see of the face is quite young.

Size wise Dormal the bird is about the size of a dragon if not bigger. Think of the dragons from Dragon Age or Skyrim, and that is about the size of Dormal the Bird if not larger. Dormal the Man on the other hand is your average human in size at about five feet either inches and with a slender build. So Dormal the Bird is quite large in fact.

However, due to in game limitations I'd say that Dormal's ingame sprite would be either as large as the Dragons in the rift or possibly smaller, to the size of Sion.

Movement and Basic Attacks Dormal Flies along the rift with his majestic wings. When attacking he bats his wings and screeches. Doing so sends dust projectiles at target.

STATS Health: 560-2130 Health Regen: 7-21 Mana: 400-1050 Mana Regen: 5-18 Armor: 27-87 Magic Resist: 30 Attack Damage: 60-105 Attack Speed: 0.65-0.98 Attack Range: 600 Movement Speed: 355 Primary Role: Support Secondary Role: Tank/Mage

Synopsis Dormal is a Support. Pure and simply. While he has potential for damage his main abilities help suppress enemies to make it easier for allies to damage them safely. What offense he does have needs setting up for the most part, and thus leaves him vulnerable if caught unaware.

Utilizing his ultimate can help calm the battlefield for a moment while everyone regroups. Thus choosing when to use it can be detrimental. Miscalculating can lead to huge consequences.

Being able to control ones enemy is the key to playing Dormal and helping your teammates.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/81/81144-10b5699d4a89eea6a10e0c3ad7d25343.jpg Passive: Lullaby Enemies within 300/400/500/600 units of Dormal hear an soothing song. After 1s within this radius enemy champions begin to feel sleepy over the course of 3s. During this time their movement and attack speed slowly decreases by 2/3/4/5% every 0.5s. Max of 12/18/24/30% reduction. Attacking an enemy who is at max sleepiness will lull them asleep for 0.5/1/1.5/2s.

Upon waking enemy champions are immune to falling asleep in this manner for 6s, but still lose movement and attack speed if they stay for 1s within this radius again. Leaving this radius will restore movement and attack speed gradually over 1s.

NOTES Enemies who fall asleep in this way slump over and have Z's floating off of them as an animation. Some champions have unique animations. Wukong slumps on a nimbus cloud, Ahri curls up with her tails, Teemo falls on a shroom, Veigar leans on his staff, Corki lands, Xerath closes the gaps in his body (becoming like dormant statue), and several other instances. For the most part they slump over on their weapons (if they're long enough) or simply sorta hunch over as if sleeping standing up.

The lullaby is a mixture of Dormal the Human and Dormal the Bird humming together in a soothing manner. This lullaby is also a constant for the summoner. The lullaby itself is relatively low in volume so as not to drown out everything else, and you can mute the lullaby via the player score screen much like with Sona's music, but this does NOT stop the effect of lullaby. It simply makes it so you don't hear it.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/109/109980-ce54e9a6b792f1f022babf02ee4ae3f7.jpg Q: Sweet Dreams Targets an enemy champion who is asleep and sends euphoric dust in their direction which grants pleasant dreams. If hit they stay asleep for 0.75/1/1.5/1.75/2s longer. Enemy minions along the dusts path take 20/30/40/50/60 (+5% AP) magic damage every 0.5s for 3s. Enemy Champions can intercept this dust, but doing so lulls them to sleep for the time which would have been added to the target.

Cost: 50/55/60/65/70 Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12s Range: 600 units. Missile Width: 50 units Missile Speed: 1600 units Missile Range: 1000 units.

NOTES Upon activation golden dust particles are shot towards the target from Dormal in a relatively linear path. Upon hitting the target (or another champion) they fall asleep. Next to the Z's which appear is a dream bubble which shows a happy image. Usually it is just a smiley face, rainbow, or kitten. Some champions gain unique dreams sometimes. Diana can dream of the moon, Leona of the Sun, etc.

I say relatively linear because for this ability to work it must be activated on a sleeping target. It won't allow activation on a non sleeping target. When activated the dust goes straight from Dormal to the target, which should be linear. However, if somehow the target wakes up after activation then the dust will home in on the target up to 1000 units.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/106/106073-c3f815dd9534e6aa114974ba0347d59c.jpg W: Nightmare Sends nefarious dust in target 600 unit direction which, upon hitting an enemy champion, plagues them with nightmares whether asleep or not. Enemy minions along the dusts path take 20/30/40/50/60 (+5% AP) magic damage every 0.5s for 3s.

Enemy Champions who are awake and are hit by this dust are sent into a terrified frenzy for 3s causing them to hallucinate and attack nearby allies. Their attack damage is decreased to 10/15/20/25/30% of their original attack damage during this time. During this time they also take 10/15/20/25/30 (+5% AP) magic damage every 0.5s. Lifesteal is nulled.

Enemy Champions who are sleeping and are hit by this dust instantly awake in terror from a sweat induced nightmare causing them to run in fear for 0.5/0.75/1/1.25/1.5s. If an enemy champion was effected by Sweet Dreams they awake violently causing an immediate 50/80/110/140/170 (+60% AP) magic damage to themselves and those within 200 units of them.

Cost: 100/105/110/115/120 Cooldown: 20s Missile Width: 150 Missile Speed: 1600

NOTES Nightmare is a dark red dust outlined in a dark purple which passes through all enemies in its path until it reaches the end of its range. The icon above an awake enemy champions head is a swirly mark within a bubble. Enemies who were sleeping under the influence of Sweet Dreams have their dream bubbles "pop".

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/98/98089-abe081037fdfe3aa5365be3ca3d1bcac.jpg E: Restful Slumber Dormal lands at target location within 600 units of his current position. Upon landing dust surrounds hims in a 400 unit area reducing damage done to him by 30/40/50/60/70% and restores 1/2/3/4/5% of his Maximum health + 10% of his AP every 0.5s for 3s. Allies within this area are also healed (based on their own maximum health, but Dormal's AP) and have all cc removed, but only if they remain still. This includes not attacking.

During this time Dormal falls asleep and cannot attack or move. Doing so wakes up him and ends Restful Slumber early. Allies who remain still also fall asleep until they move or attack.

Cost: 100/105/110/115/120 Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12s

NOTES The dust which surrounds this area is a green outlined in gold. Dormal and allies have the healing aura emanate from them while receiving the heal.

While in Restful Slumber Dormal is immune to snares, stuns, and knock ups, but not the damage which goes along with them. The damage is applied while taking into effect the reduction from Restful Slumber. However, being hit by abilities which force movement (fears, knock backs, charms, etc.) will wake Dormal and end Restful Slumber.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/69/69998-85a5642353a34dc0f989a2cde5ec999a.jpg R: Eternal Sleep Dormal targets a 1000/1500/2000 unit area on the map and takes flight after 1s to target location. Upon arrival a multitude of different colored dust falls on the area. Anyone, including allies and turrets, become sleepy slowing their movement and attack speed by 3/4/5% every 0.5s for 3s. After 3s, those who are still within the area fall asleep, including turrets, for 1/2/3s and Dormal lands in the middle of the area.

During this time his abilities change.

Cost: 150/200/250 Cooldown: 160/140/120s Range: Global Flight Speed: 2000

Sweet Dreams Upon landing Dormal can cast Sweet Dreams on allies. Doing so causes them to heal for 1/2/3% of their Maximums Health + 10% of Dormal's AP every 0.5s while they are asleep. Cannot be cast on Enemies.

Nightmare Upon landing casting Nightmare will not wake enemies. Instead their dreams are plagued by nightmares causing 50/75/100 (+10% AP) every 0.5s for as long as they are asleep. This damage heals Dormal if he is within 600 units of the enemies effected.

Restful Slumber Can cast this while flying around the area before landing. If done this will end Eternal Sleep's flight and puts every champion to sleep and heals them. This includes enemies. This duration of the sleep and strength of the heal is dependent on when it was cast. Dormal does not land until Restful Slumber is over if cast in this way. Restful Slumber cannot be cast if he lands during his ultimate.

Casting immediately or above 2s puts every to sleep for 1/1.5/2s and heals them for 0.5/1/1.5% of their maximum health + 5% of Dormal's AP every 0.5s.

Casting under 2s puts everyone to sleep for 2/2.5/3s and heals them for 1/1.5/2% of their Maximum Health + 10% of Dormal's AP every 0.5s.

NOTES Eternal Sleep is a universal ultimate which targets a medium/large area of the map. While in flight he is invulnerable and untargetable. A shadow of Dormal is seen on the ground as he flies to target location and as he flies around the area.

This ultimate works on both allies and enemies due to its nature of a sort of reprieve for the weary. It brings calm across the battlefield. However, this can be avoided using the Hourglass or leaving the area before they are put to sleep.

Choosing how best to utilize this ult can either be helpful or detrimental to your team as casting Restful Slumber while in the air heals both sides. However, this heal does not effect turrets or minions.

"Sleep finds us all," Upon selection.

"Fall into the eternal slumber!" Using ult. "Rest now." Putting someone to sleep with his passive or using Restful Slumber. "Pleasant dreams," Using Sweet Dreams. "Fall to terror!" Using Nightmare.

These are but a few comments from Dormal. Just to get a taste of how he is.

Voice Dormal's voice is both the bird and human combined. So it comes out over layering one another. A young sounding voice and an older wiser sounding voice. It's sorta hard to describe, but I'd say it's something along the lines of how Varus has the sorta reverb to it.

Enemies Nocturne

Possible Builds

  1. item 3027 item 3083 item 3222 item 3190 item 3050 item 3111
  2. item 3027 item 3102 item 3083 item 3075 item 3068 item 3111
  3. item 3504 item 3027 item 3157 item 3040 item 3111 item 3165

These are just basic stuff emphasizing more on a mixture of AP, Health, MR, and Armor. You can always find your own, but I would recommend Health and AP for the most part as a support, but should you need to tank focus on that then. Thank you.

There you have Dormal, the Eternal Sleeper! I hope you enjoyed! This is of course a rough draft, and probably not done. Numbers and effects may seem to make him very strong (or not! Who knows), and so I implore you to look at the whole core of what I was going for. Using sleep and dreams in the kit.

I appreciate any and all feedback as long as it isn't just outright hate because that never helped anyone nor is it constructive and helpful. I enjoy talking things out as well, so I will most likely reply back with my own thoughts on things and we can go back and forth with our ideas and thoughts.

Thank you for your time in reading this! I much appreciate it! If you enjoyed Dormal, the Eternal Sleeper then please upvote if you wish. Thank you once again! ^_^

P.s. If you vote in the poll for tweaks, or saying it's a bad champion could you please explain so it can help me to further my knowledge in creations? It would be much appreciated. After all, voting for tweaks or saying it's bad without explaining or talking it out isn't constructive and won't help anything. Thank you. ^_^

Since it's been a few days and it's been buried, I'm bumping this once. Thank you.

While it seems very interesting, the sleep mechanic seems kind of anti-fun. If you're fighting him, you're going to be asleep 2 out of 8 seconds all the time. Sometimes the sleep is extended by up to 4 seconds. The sleep seems like it's simply an intricate stun, meaning you'd want to QSS every time you were hit by his Q or be stunned for 4 seconds only to be hit by a 2 second stun 6 seconds after. It is way too strong. Ontop of this, he slows ms and as by 30% whenever you're not stunned. I don't see why you'd run AP on this guy, I'd go directly for AD and just beat everyone in the 4 seconds they can't do anything. If they wail on me too much, I'd just fly away using either the E or the Ult or hit them with W, forcing them to attack something else for 3 seconds. It doesn't matter how much you work you've put into the kit if you've got 7 seconds of chain CC from one champion, a heal that basically is an AOE Volibear Passive (A spell that's HORRIBLE to deal with) and a Pantheon Ult that stuns. There's way too much to this champion and it simply can't be fun to play against in it's current state. It needs major reworks and I don't understand why you'd think this much CC was a good idea.
