[EXTENSIVE CHAMPION CONCEPT] Avyn, the Embodiment of Chaos

Abstract

Avyn is designed to be a melee AP mage, best suited for the mid lane of Summoner’s Rift. Avyn’s early game is one of the weakest of any champion, but she makes up for it with an incredibly strong late game. She has very low base damages but good scalings, making her scale much more with items than with level. Her kit is mostly based around her passive marks, her W transform, and her ultimate to deal massive sustained damage.

Due to her scalings and % health damage on her ultimate, Avyn is a relatively high risk, high reward champion. Think of her like a mage version of Vayne: terrible early, but scales incredibly well and can do decent damage late even with only a few items. If Avyn gets ahead, she can carry harder than almost any other champion, but still offers counterplay due to her damage being quite low unless she gets a successful W channel, which isn't difficult to avoid.

Lore

There is an ancient force underlying Runeterra. Some say it was created as a result of an ancient experiment gone wrong, some suspect dark magic, but to most, it has existed since before the beginning of time. Named Chaos by the scientists who discovered its existence due to its mysterious, shifting nature, it possesses immense power, able to overcome all known laws of reality. However, all attempts to tame it have been met with drastic failure… that is, all but one.

Avyn is one of the last surviving members of the Janus race, one of the first sentient species that lived on Runeterra. Although not much is known about them or their way of life, it is obvious from surviving artifacts and blueprints that the Janus were much more technologically advanced than any other race. However, this made them an enemy of all other civilizations on Valoran, to the point where they eventually united into a coalition for the sole purpose of destroying the Janus.

Searching for fighters, the Janus screened the ranks of every school and organization for defenders. Among those they recruited was a young female with the base form of a dark grey fox. Skilled in the use of magic, particularly hypnosis, she went on to conduct several successful attacks on the Coalition. Despite this, the Janus were pushed back to their capital city after a string of defeats. Desperate, the Janus Command decided to do the unthinkable: asking the assistance of the young prodigy, they spent all their resources to create a temporary tear in reality and allow Chaos to flow through into her in hopes of creating a superweapon. What followed is only vaguely pieced together by Runeterra’s leading historians, but the Janus’s secret weapon was immensely more powerful than even they had expected. After mere hours, the coalition was decimated, with legends saying only one in twenty men survived. Unable to control her new power, however, the young chaos mage then turned on her own race, nearly wiping them out before barely containing her in a pocket universe. Naming her Avyn after the Janus word for “apocalypse”, she was forgotten about as the races of Runeterra rebuilt.

Long has passed since these events, which had faded from fact to history to folk tale over millenia. However, the recent discoverance of the forgotten martyr by curious Zaunite scientists has raised question after question about how, exactly, this mystical power of Chaos functions. In an effort to bring new minds to the subject, the League agreed to, after repeated requests by Zaun, release and subsequently capture her for experimentation and summoning. She appears more complacent now, as well as in control of her powers along with the magic she learned from the Janus. When questioned about her lack of desire to destroy, she tends only to answer that "the time is not right."

Woe betide the day when the “time” comes.

A target cannot take damage from the same type of mark twice within 5 seconds.

Avyn's next autoattack will deal 10/20/30/40/50 (+70% AP) magic damage. The energy then branches out, striking enemy units within 400 range for 75% of the damage dealt to the initial target, and turning them into branching vectors themselves, down to a minimum of 25% damage. A target can only be affected once.

Hypnotizing Gaze: Avyn channels for 3 seconds, reduced by 0.5 for every Mark of Destruction on the target. The target is slowed by 20% for the duration of the channel. If the target does not exit 900 range of Avyn before the channel completes, they are stunned for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds, and Avyn can cast Gift of the Janus for the next 3/3/4/4/5 seconds.

Gift of the Janus: Avyn transforms her physical shell to that of the enemy afflicted/recently afflicted with Hypnotizing Gaze, gaining their abilities and item for 5 seconds or until Avyn cancels the ability, which can be done by simultaneously right- and left-clicking the target champion. Avyn's damage in this form is reduced by 80/80/75/75/70%, crowd control from her transformed kit does not take effect, and targets hit by her spells gain a Mark of Annihilation for the next 5 seconds.

Avyn blinks to target unit within 400 range. If targeting a champion, the range increases to 600. If targeting a champion with one or more Marks on them, the range increases to 700 and the cooldown of Dimensional Shift is reduced by 2 seconds, although Avyn cannot blink to the same champion more than once every 10/9/8/7/5 seconds. This ability applies Marks of Chaos, but does not deal damage.

Avyn transcends her physical form, becoming the true embodiment of chaos for 5/6/7 seconds. During this time the following effects are in place:

• The cooldown of Dimensional Shift is decreased by 75% when used on enemy champions, and Dimensional Shift's single target time limit is decreased to 3 seconds.
• The cooldown of Chaos Slash is decreased by 50%.
• Marks cannot expire
• All of Avyn's abilities apply Marks of Annihilation
• Enemies with 3 or more Marks of Chaos or 5 or more Marks of Annihilation are silenced for the remaining duration of the spell
• Dimensional Shift's champion cooldown resets upon kills or assists.

At the end of Apocalypse, all enemy champions with at least one Mark of Chaos take 30/60/90 (+40% AP) damage, detonating all Marks of Annihilation and Marks of Chaos on the target for double the Marks' normal damage. For every Mark of Annihilation, each affected champion also takes 3/6/9% of their maximum Health in true damage

Apocalypse can only be cast if an enemy champion within 1500 range has at least one Mark of Annihilation. After using Apocalypse, Avyn loses the ability to use W for 5/4/3 seconds and Q does 65% damage for the same duration.

Tips for playing Avyn

• Gift of the Janus is extremely strong against mostly AoE based champions, as they can apply several Marks of Annihilation to a large group of opponents.
• Avyn's early game is extremely weak, so don't try to fight most champions 1v1 early and focus on farm.
• Don't use Hypnotizing Gaze to initiate a fight - attack your opponent a few times first, as this will make Hypnotizing Gaze's channel time decrease.
• The majority of Avyn's non-ultimate damage comes from using her passive effectively. Keep this in mind.

Tips for playing against Avyn

• Avyn scales hard into late game, but her early game is extremely weak. Try to deny her farm in lane.
• Try to avoid getting multiple Marks of Chaos on you at any point, as it will make it easier for Avyn to successfully channel her Hypnotizing Gaze on you.
• Escape Hypnotizing Gaze at all costs! This will negate the majority of Avyn's damage.
• Avyn is one of the strongest champions in the game with Apocalypse active, but it has a long cooldown. Try to disengage when she uses it, and go aggressive when it is not available.
