Design Philosophy: This particular design has been on my mind for a while. I wanted to design a champion who would really deeply explore the history of the shadow isles before they were the shadow isles. Now, I could always have done another, “My take on the Ruined king” thread, but that feels over done and like it only goes far enough to make another giant sword warrior, not an interesting champion. I want to make this champion in a way that ties together all of the Lore of the Shadow isles, and wraps up its connections to the mainland of Runeterra. This champion is designed to sort of be the “cap stone” champion that concludes and confirms the lore of the shadow isles and its current champions. Oraedros is a short range brawler of a mage, who relies on CC and damage as well as a powerful summon to control team fights. He excels at multi champion combat, but is relatively weak for a 1 on 1 fight.
Lore: I was a boy when it happened. Our culture’s sworn enemies drove us off the mainland to my father’s last stronghold on the isle of Eredreth. The time of the Magelords was coming to a rapid close, and we had no further escape.
“My liege, the Protectorate forces encroach on our garrisons on the eastern shores.”
“Kaiseros, you are certain we have no resources left on the mainland?”
“Indeed, your Highness. I fear this may be our last chance to drive them back. I we fail now, we shall fall”
“Oraedros! Come with me, I have a vital task for you.”
I knew everything that was on the verge of destruction, and it terrified me. My father, the Rune King, was the chief of the Magelords. His faction had been warring with the magic haters, the Protectorate, for centuries, and when he had taken the throne, he dealt several crushing blows to their strength. If not for otherworldly interference, we would have overpowered our foes a decade before my birth. But fate chose a different victor, and my father had planned for this day already.
We were greatness incarnate, the most powerful and most ancient culture still remaining, the last of the original five races. The Rune Wars were begun to spite the power of our people, by impudent humans that believed we were utterly selfish for not “sharing” our power, as if it were a treat to be given away. The power of the Magelords came from the souls of our ancestors. When your father died, it was his duty and obligation to pass on the fullness of his remaining power into his son, in order to preserve the wisdom and power of the ancients. To not do so was considered worse than disowning, since it left the son weaker than any other mage. Our house was the oldest continued line of the Magelords, and thus my father was the most powerful mage.
“Oraedros, you must carry on our legacy. You know our people are falling, and our realm is soon to be destroyed. You are young, but I am entrusting to you my blade and my battle staff. For the past millenium, my father and his fathers before him have been empowering these tools, these weapons, as a safeguard against our destruction. Stored in them is at least a portion of the power that you should have inherited from me, and you must use them to reclaim our land.”
My father handed me his staff and strapped the blade onto my tiny 7 year old frame. I nearly toppled over under its mass.
“Father, what do I do now? I only just started classes during the last moon!”
“My boy, now is when you must trust me. I have devised a method to suspend you in time, to allow you to live on after we have fallen so that you can return to our world once the Protectorate have also vacated the earth, and resurrect our way of life.”
My father then guided me to a low passage way, towards the lavatory. Inside of the stall was a stairway to the balcony on the next floor. There, my father revealed a small alcove, surrounded by small creeping vines that slowly inched away as we approached. My father placed me inside the alcove, casting a seal over the doorway. Time began to warp as the seal closed, first with my father speaking faster and faster, and then the people bustling below us in the court scurrying around like termites. I couldn’t help the tears from falling when I realized that my father was serious that nothing I knew or cared about would be there when I was released.
In what seemed like a few short hours, I saw my people fall. I saw my father’s lieutenant Hecaros betray him in an attempt to preserve his own life, only to be slain after allowing the Protectorate into the court. I saw my young cousin Kalista impaled by her own enchanted spears, I saw my father’s general Kaiseros die in a wreath of flames screaming in high pitched agony as the time distortion accelerated his pain. Lastly, I saw my Father retreat to stand once again right in front of my little alcove, prepared to defend it with his entire being. I saw the killing blows land as he failed to block the last lethal strikes, and then his soul was unleashed from his body, along with the power of 87 generations of Mage-kings before him. It was awe inspiring, to realize how truly powerful my father was, but I could only ponder it for a moment as the energy released from his corpse blasted away the remaining Protectorate forces, leaving the hall silent and empty. After what seemed an eternity to me because of the distortion of time in my stasis, my father’s soul seeped into the alcove, but instead of traveling into my body, his mind lodged in his blade and his essence in his staff. At first I was shocked and thought he had chosen to empower these weapons instead of his own son, but then he spoke from the blade on my back.
“Oraedros, I have much to teach you over the next millennia.”
In what seemed a decade, my Father taught me the ways of the ancients, the powerful magiks that were kept from standard practice because of the skill required, the combat techniques that could make a Protectorate warlord quake in fear, but also the wisdom and history of our race.
After that long time of training, I had grown as if I were only 10 years older than the day we fell, but my father warned me that the world outside would be at least 1000 years older than the world I knew. As my period of learning drew to a close, the Rune King at last released his soul into my being, along with the energy of my ancestors before him. His consciousness remained in his sword to guide me, but now, I was the master of the Magelords, and my time had come to revive our lands.
I stepped forth from the alcove, waving away the barrier with ease. I stooped over the final resting place of my father, whose physical remains had long since turned to dust, and donned his ancient armor. Our hall was dark and shrouded in overgrowth and webs, which I cleared with a wave of my hand. I prepared to exit from the north hall, when a great beast lunged from the shadows. I hurled my father’s blade into its skull, watching as several others, now cautious, slowly crept forward. I drew upon the souls of my forebears, and summoned a massive Specter in the image of my father, and myself, and all of the Rune kings before us. The beasts now cowered in fear, forced into submission to my dominance.
Now that I have secured my own stronghold, It is my time to reclaim the realm of the Magelords. The Protectorate called my father the Ruined king in mockery, but now the world shall see the ruin of his heir!

Kit/Abilities: Passive, Essence Inheritance: Oraedros’ respawn timer is reduced by 15%, down to a minimum of 10 seconds. Additionally, whenever a nearby enemy unit dies (1500 range), Oraedros absorbs a portion of their power, gaining stacks of inheritance. Small minions, monsters, or pets: +1 stack of inheritance. Large minions or monsters: +2 stacks of inheritance. Epic monsters or enemy champion: +4 stacks of inheritance. Upon gaining 30 inheritance stacks, all of his ultimate’s summon’s stats are increased by 5%. This effect can occur up to 10 times per match, or a total of 300 total stacks of inheritance. Upon reaching max stacks, Oraedros inheritance stacks are replaced with a “Rightful Heir” buff that denotes that he has purged his realm of darkness and resurrected the ways of the Magelords. Inheritance stacks do not affect his base stats or his standard abilities.
Q, Skill of the Ancients: Passive: If Oraedros hits an enemy with three spells within 3 seconds, he becomes immune to all of their crowd control effects for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds. This effect cannot trigger more than once every 8 seconds for each individual enemy champion. Active: Oraedros whirls his staff overhead dealing Physical damage in an AOE (300 range) for 2 seconds, before selecting a target area to blast with his staff, dealing magic damage (750 range skillshot). Oraedros is not channeling during this time and cannot be interrupted. AOE damage per second: 15/25/35/45/55 (+75% AD). Blast magic damage: 55/100/145/190/235 (+70% AP). 60/65/70/75/80 mana. 12 second cool down.
W, Expulsion Arcanum: Active: Oraedros strikes the ground at is feet with his staff, dealing magic damage in an AOE (500 range), knocking back all enemy units to the edge of the area, and shielding all allies within range (including himself, champions, and pets) for 2 seconds. Magic damage: 70/110/150/190/230 (+50% AP). Ally shield: 35/55/75/95/115 (+25% AP). 80 mana. 18/17/16/15/14 second cool down.
E, Rune Leap: Active: Oraedros rapidly dashes forward in a line (500 range) before releasing a devastating blast of magic damage after a 0.5 second delay at the spot where he was last standing in a 200 radius AOE, which continues to burn and slow enemies in the area for another 2 seconds after the blast. Blast damage: 60/95/130/165/200 (+60% AP). Burn damage per second: 15/23.75/32.5/41.25/50 (+15% AP). Max combined damage: 90/165/220/275/300 (+90% AP). Slow: 60% while in the area. 70/75/80/85/90 mana. 16 second cool down.
R, Bane of the Protectorate: Active: Oraedros hurls the Rune King’s sword forward in a straight line (1200 range), dealing physical damage to all units it hits. Any units hit by this ability are pulled along and impaled by the force of the throw. Once the projectile reaches the end of its range or hits terrain, it stops, and Oraedros summons a giant spectral construct in the image of the great kings of the Magelords that rises up with the sword in hand. This Specter is a fully controllable pet, and interacts with spells as if it were a champion. Cool down begins once the Specter parishes, and the Specter lives for up to 30 seconds unless killed. The Specter’s attacks are considered spells and strike in an AOE cleave around the primary target. Impale damage: 100/175/250 (+50% AD). 100 mana. 120/105/90 second cool down.

Strategy: Oraedros is a short range, area control mage. He does best when he can get in the enemy’s face and nuke them up close. He still has to build relatively squishy to be successful, because of his lower base stats and high ratios, so he has several methods of dispersing enemies that get too up in his face, from his W and his E, and occasionally his R. His W allows him to clear away enemies in an area to allow his allies to either single out a target or retreat from an ambush. His E lets him kite surprisingly well for a melee mage, since it both nukes enemies, but also slows anyone trying to chase him. The Majority of Oraedros' power is in his R. It is crucial that he impale as many enemy champions as possible in order that his Specter has enough HP and stats to survive a fight. As the game goes on, his passive can allow for some margin of error with his aim by alleviating the lower base stats to reasonable levels. On the flip side, his passive, if you are able to impale several enemies with the original cast, turns his Specter into an incredibly tanky damaging pet stronger than some champions. Oraedros’ standard combo is usually Q>E>W. His Q damages the enemy, then he Es past them and knocks them into the explosion from E with his W. When he has his ultimate, it is almost ALWAYS ideal to open up your combo with it, since it allows the most time for your Specter summon to attack enemies and tank damage for you. You should never leave your Specter to fight for itself though even if you manage to hit all 5 enemies and it has max stats since it, like any unit, will die quickly to focus fire from the enemy team. It can be healed or shielded like a champion, but it will never live for more than 30 seconds. It also cannot be revived or cloned (sorry Yorick, Mordekaiser, and Zilean).
Pros: Passive makes late game death timers around 9 seconds shorter. Inheritance stacks are easy to get. Not stacking inheritance is not a massive weakness. Q deals mixed damage. W clears away ALL enemies. E is a strong escape spell. R summon is a powerful damage source. Strong team fighter. Good wave clear. Multiple CCs.
Cons: Q locks out other spell casts until complete. W Shield is weak. E’s damage can be tricky to combo. R has weak stats without his passive or impaling enemies. All skill shots. No single target burst. Weak without summon. High mana costs.
