Mana regen boots

Here's an idea for getting easy access to mana regen that isn't tied onto a big ticket item or an AP item (ideally for champs like ADCs, AD fighters/casters/assassins, and some supports that don't like investing into AP heavy items)

Adept's Slippers:

  • Recipe: item 1001+item 1004+item 1004+415 gold=1100 gold
  • Stats: 50% Base mana regen.
  • Unique passive: Enhanced movement: +45 MS.
  • Unique passive: Rejuvenation: Every 5 seconds, emit a pulse in an 800 radius area that restores 10 mana to all allied champions, including the owner. This effect cannot reoccur for the same champion more than once every 5 seconds.

All numbers are subject to change of course.

EDIT: There have been a ton of really good suggestions about how to improve this item idea, and a few of the best include:

  • Rejuvenation is a stronger effect but not an aura (basically restores mana in pulses for the main user).
  • Rejuvenation passive restores mana for distance traveled (something like 1 mana per 100 units traveled).
  • Creating a new enchantment that gives the Rejuvenation passive instead of a full pair of boots.
  • Changing boots of Lucidity to build out of item 1001+item 3114 to give 10% CDR and 50% base mana regen for 1100 (not actually too big of a fan of this because it messes with AD caster itemization pretty substantially).

I dont know about the mana restoring unique passive but I'm all for mana regen boots. Good item for all ap's who rely on regen.

Mana Regen aura and Soraka's mana infuse were removed because being able to remove another champions mana gating forced balance around the possibility of having that aura/Soraka.

However, boots is a very logical place to put mana regeneration, since they're a "low" stat weight item.

raises glass May we see it in season 6!

Here's a better idea.

Make Lucidity build out of Forbidden Idol and Boots of Speed.

Solve two problems at the same time.

I like this idea. Though it would break some builds, as you'd have to reduce the CDR from Lucidity to compensate, and some people rely on that 15% to max CDR.

Ehh, I'm not sure you would. Lucidity boots aren't picked terribly often, and the people who use them best are often manaless, so adding some mana regen and keeping the 15% probably wouldn't break the game. You could just increase the price as compensation instead: Forgotten Idol costs 600g, so bumping the combine cost up to, say, 150g would put the finished product at 750g instead of 675g.

50% mana regen and only 15 mana per 10 seconds? That sounds weak as fuck.

junglerboy1615 votes

I'd rather undershoot on the regen than make it too strong. To be fair, having 15 MP5 for all nearby allies (albeit in bursts) is quite strong actually.

Fadedpf1 votes

Thats fine but 15 mana? That is great pre 8 minutes, past that it is useless. and of course no one will have them pre 8 mins. So there needs to be like a mini version of item 3010 maybe the pulsing system that will restore 50 mana over 2 seconds. That sounds strong to me.

What about a self-scaling mana-regen that refills x% of unit's missing mana every second as long as it has above 70% mana. This way if you regulate mana usage you can have always a good amount of mana but you can lose it if you overuse it.

NorthernDruid2 votes

15 Mp5 is the difference between never running out and running out relatively quickly.

item 2139 is the best mana regen item in the damn game.

He did say this lol. Something anyone who posts a champ or item idea should include. It may not be much, but it can be useful, especially on mid mages and supports.
Another idea I think could work is have the item give a smaller regen per 10 but jump it way up upon hitting an enemy champion with a spell. More designed around harass mages.

Boot enchant.

25-50% mana regen aura.

Slightly cheaper than the other enchants.

I think these boots would be good on mana heavy mid laners and possibly AD casters since they won't take up a very important slot as it is. However as a support main I do not feel these boots would be very effective. Mobi boots are the preferred boot choice of most supports and I don't see that changing even with mana regen boots. Mobi boots are very effective because if you go 21 in utility like most supports do you will have an out of combat speed boost to go along with mobi's out of combat speed boost on top of that mobi's are just extremely cheap for a role that should have the least amount of money on their team. I can see the rejuvenation passive being useful on a support, but there simply are better alternatives for mana intensive supports. My personal favorite is morello's because it not only gives you enough mana regen, but it also gives you 20% cdr and is not too expensive and item for a support to pick up at a grand total of 2300 gold as well as grievous wounds being useful even on a support. I can see carry roles not wanting to spend their item slots on items less than ideal for damage such as a mana regen item, but I think morello's is a pretty cost effective item for supports that gives more than these boots do and going both is simply mana regen overdose. On top of that mobi boots would still be cheaper as well at only 800 gold total.

I like the idea of a mana pulse but I don't like the idea of it on these boots your suggesting and here's why.

Granting your team mana regen or lump sums of mana is a powerful ability. if the item also gives you mana that's hitting too many nails on the head. the would either never be picked from having bad stats or it would always be picked as a mana regen item for every support in the game.

This falls into the same problem runic bulwark had with simply being so good every team had to have at least one every game, items should be bought because of a build idea or situationally to how the game is evolving, they should NEVER be bought because they are so good it is mandatory to have one on a team every game.

granting mana at the same time makes them a solve all mana issues item as well which is too strong.

this feels like a late game ability added to a large item like Mikael's Crucible's heal. it solves all late game mana issues for a team and can be over strong early for mana dependant champions like Lucian making him broken in lane again.

far too many negatives then positives in this item

teedddyy2 votes

How about attack damage boots. other wise, AD boots item 1055 + item 1001 = AD boots And also AP boots would be great also :)

They would never make a Doran's item build into something else, it's kind of the point of Doran's items that they don't.

They really should re-implement that item (after of course fixing whatever made them remove it).

LordGeovanni1 votes

i dont think they wanted the item to effect summoner spells any more and they changed pholosipher's stone that built into it into one of the aincent coin line because they introduced support items to generate gold. then maybe because it was consumeable

Both league and dota 2 are created from dota one which was made inside another game altogether.

there is nothing wrong with implementing another games idea if it adds to your own game in its own way

I don't see any problems with mana regen in this game. AP mids have item 3165 and item 3174, supports can buy item 3069 and item 3222, so is this really that much of a problem? Personally, I would never buy those boots, I would just stick to item 3158 and item 3020, they are just very strong options for AP champions, much stronger for me than mana regen I can get from 2 really efficient AP items.

junglerboy164 votes

I always find mana regen to be an issue on non-AP champs actually. Right now, the only mana regen option for non APs are item 3301 line (support only), item 3010 (only worth for tanks and supports if not building RoA), item 2041 (pretty good item but doesn't fit into a final build), item 3508 (sucky item in general), and item 3070/item 3004/item 3042 (only good on a select few champs).

Of course just building more base mana partially fixes the issue for a lot of bruisers (item 3110 item 3025), but there is still the issue that a lot of champs without a regen item still go OOM and are only able to refill at base, and building more max mana only allows you to delay that.

Count Zubat2 votes

Still, isn't mana supposed to add another strategic element into a champion? By adding an item which would solve mana problems of all champions, you might just make all champions manaless. This gauge is made so player has to think before he starts spamming all his abilities, as well as he has to strategies around this resource. I don't think trying to solve mana problems of most champions would be healthy for a game - imagine Fizz or Talon, never running oom, so he can infinitely snowball between lanes. Or a tank that can just spam his CC instead of think when he should use it so he doesn't run oom. That's why I'm quite sceptic about this idea.

Katarina Riven Yasuo Zed Vladimir Very Thinky (sarcasm(No hate intended, just pointing out manaless champs that are popular))

Count Zubat2 votes

That is a problem of other nature, but I must say, I don't know what Riot was thinking when they thought it is a good idea to make some champions manaless (KatarinaRiven ). Zed has his energy, but it is rather a problem only in early game, seeing how his skills energy cost lowers with each level. Vladimir theoretically uses his health as his mana, but let's be serious, buying him item 3145 makes nearly all of his abilities free. It's weird how Riot decided to create manaless champs, but couldn't think of the idea how to restrict them properly so they don't have an upper hand above mana champs. Also, as I am playing Vladimir very often, I remember how I started playing Lissandra . Being custom to resourceless Vladimir , I completely forgot she has mana and I ran out of it really quickly by spamming her Q. So yeah, I can see how manaless champs are problematic.

The issue with mana regen that they are trying to solve is that unless you can build item 3165/item 3174 you have to give up a lot of combat stats to get it. The biggest abusers for this type of item would be Pantheon, Talon , and a handful of AD caster marksmen, who are champs who tend to be weak for a lot of the time (which is why some people want this kind of thing) but who are really scary and dominate hard when they aren't weak (which is why Riot won't give it to them).

LordGeovanni1 votes

a manner item that fits into builds of people who they dont usually wouldnt break the game its not like you putting an item that will restore ahlf the person's mana pool every 30 seconds you but some characters need legitimate help with thier mana regen expecially ad characters its not like they will never be oom if the recklessly spam spells if you decide to manage your mana by never useing spells then your mana would always be at maximum. its still up to mana management in the end an if you decide to build mana regen then you leave out other things that could be built

Felvyne1 votes

And why not mana regen based on units walked? 1 mana per each 10 units? Or something

junglerboy161 votes

might be too strong on roaming champs and too weak on non-roaming champs. Also, 1 mana per 10 units is a TON of mana, especially considering that most units have a base move speed of 325-355 (which means they can walk 325-355 units in one second, or effectively gain 32-35 mana per second simply for moving)

Maybe if they had "restores 1 mana per every 100 units traveled" that could be okay, but anything more than that would be ridiculously overpowered. I mean, imagine Talon is roaming from mid. He's OOM, and roams to top. Traveling roughly 4000 units, he restores 400 mana with your idea, or 40 with my idea, not factoring in mana regen, and it takes him about 10-11 seconds to make the trip, meaning that even with the much lower value I just suggested, he'd still get 20 MP5 just for roaming around a bit.

It's a really interesting concept, but it could be incredibly broken if not balanced perfectly (junglers and roaming mid laners would never be OOM ever).

Felvyne1 votes

True, I didn't say good numbers for balance. But that aside, the idea is there. I think they would be for roaming midlaners, since they have usually low mana pool and not that great mana regen, so they can waveclear and roam bot/top/help jungler a bit easier.

Rockman1 votes

You'd only ever get them on an AP support that was getting CDR from other items.

Nameless Voice1 votes

Question: What's wrong with taking mana regeneration runes on champions who need more mana regeneration but don't want to invest in expensive mana items?

Yes, you give up some early stats (e.g. trading MR for mana regen), but you could then buy an item to compensate for that added deficiency instead of buying a mana item that probably doesn't fit into your build path?

Not saying the mana regeneration boots are necessarily a bad idea, just wondering why no one has mentioned the runes yet.

junglerboy161 votes

Oh, I definitely take mana regen runes on a lot of champs with sustain problems. The only issue is that for almost every jungler out there, not taking armor seals is pretty much an invitation to get invaded and bullied for most of the early game, and often sets you so far behind that you can't really have any significant impact at all.

Nameless Voice1 votes

That's true. Runeglaive helps for AP junglers, but there aren't really many options for other types of jungler. Makes me miss Spirit Stone.

Incidentally, health runes are more effective on most champions than armour runes, at least in early levels.

junglerboy161 votes

yeah, health runes are better except for the jungle where blocking a few extra points of damage per monster per camp far outscales base health after only one or two clears.
